I initially wanted to back this project. I miss games like Wizardry a lot, but Project Eternity is not an option. But I can't back because of these 2 reasons:

- 2 games instead of one? This is ridiculous. Don't they remember how complex and how much effort it is to create even a single RPG is?
- Mobile support?? Oh please, god no! If that happens we get a RPG that has either total ugly graphics or has cute graphics and looks like a flash game.

I mean... what is this. I don't have the need for another flash-like game, or for a game using a 2D iso perspective. The whole presentation looks like a joke to me. The above statements show that they have no experience in making major games anymore. Looks totally unrealistic.

It's not fatigue, it's the :decline: of Kickstarter.

In b4 Herve Caen, Trent Oster or EA kickstarter...

The more I look at the goals of the game, the more I think it will be something like "Ghost Recon Commander" - which indeed might be tactical, rpg like, 3d - but isometric boring, topdown, and of course compatible to mobile. Is this, what we are to expect? O'rly ?

Yeah. The TRULY sad thing is, just like this project, Trent Oster could do the same exact thing. Copy Paste Obsidian's KS and add some minor edits.

From the makers of Baldur's Gate....

This pitch video was so embarrassing and painful to watch that I walked out of my apartment, said nothing to my gf and smoked half of my cig pack sitting on a bench during the rain. I feel dizzy and cold now.

What bothers me is that they ask for so much money, and they don't say whether or not it will have a horrible flash style, or all the depth of a 99 cents iPhone JRPG.

At least this one was obvious that it sucked.

And honestly MCA is not helping at all. Nowadays he will endorse anything.

4:19 I was hoping two terrorists with AKs would pop out and gun Romero down, piss on his corpse, then bury him in a mound of Daikatana boxes.

Any cool RPGs that were done with only a few people in a short time that could prove that a decent game can be made with fewer resources?

No-one answered me.

And keep in mind, even though social games and phone games are cancerous, they probably have spurred the creation of decent development tools that could shave millions and many many months off the development time of an old school RPG.

Can anyone confirm there is any truth in my assumption?

At least Cleve has something to show. These people from the video just think their presence alone makes people shut up and spend their money...

As a huge fan of wizardry (especially W8) i could not believe a person behind this awful kickstarter could have contributed a lot to W8.
So i took my W8 manual to see the role of Brenda Brathwaite in W8.
She is credited as being one of the 4 game designers, one of the 2 persons for PC dialogue and writing and the only person for NPC dialogue and story.
You may not like Wiz 8 but in his category he has a good story and his game design is simply the best in his genre.
The PC and NPC dialogues in W8 are among the best i have never seen in any kind of cRPG.
Despite that this kickstarter is disheartening for Wizardry fan, it really looks like a shitstarter indeed.

Message to Loot Drop:
As much as I want to back this project, right now it is way too vague for me to consider funding.
You have NPCs, character creation, progression, and party members. Great. So does Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age 2. What makes this an old school RPG? Your promised features are so generic, I can't get a feel for the type of game you want to make. What conventions are you going to give us, that modern publishers won't? What perspective will you be using? Isometric, top down, or first person? How will the game play? Brenda is known for Wizardy, an Old School first person party based RPG known for it's challenging difficulty and extensive skills and options, but Tom is known for Anachronox, a funny JRPG styled game. Well, which is this one going to be? (Sell me the first game you hope to make, not the two stretch goal games).
I'd love a Wizardy, Might & Magic type Old-School RPG since right now Kickstarter has Baldur's Gate style isometric RPGs covered (Project Eternity) and Wasteland/Fallout-esque RPGs (Wasteland 2). But right now I'm not sure if that's the type of experience you are selling or not.
I'd like to support this project, but I just can't right now with the information you have available. What style of game are you providing, that I can't get from publishers? What niche or fanbase are you targeting? How does this game differ from the other big name RPGs that are funding themselves through kickstarter? A little clarity will help. Thank you.
Their response:
Our options depend a lot on how much money we get. And what backers want the most! We'll likely post a video talking about them. Thanks for your comments!

Again, I can't speak to the legitimacy of this interaction, but if this is true, it's bizarre.

If this is true...

Make the Codex Great Again!
:what:

Anyway, I found out about this post on the Watch from the GOG forums thread. Here's the important bit:

Our options depend a lot on how much money we get. And what backers want the most! We'll likely post a video talking about them. Thanks for your comments!
