They have people with game developing experience and they said the magic words "turn based". I'll give them $15.00.

Saving grace of Anachronox is great writing, that almost makes up for terrible gameplay and overall design.
Anachronox Credits say - Screenwriter: Richard Zangrande Gaubert not Tom Hall.

I've found this whole pitch insulting, I had hard time watching it to the end. Also, it seems they're all mac fags.
:keepmyjewgold:

Not so sure about that...

I think he wrote it himself.
That could just mean Richard Zangrande Gaubert grabbed Tom's work and adapted it to the game.

fake edit:

Richard Gaubert, the director and writer of Anachronox’s great cutscenes,

Nanoflix - "Rendezvous"
Ike Sainoi - "Under a Fallen Sun: Prelude"

Writer Richard Gaubert's skill with the digital pen ensured that this splendid sci-fi RPG was both well-written and genuinely funny.
"If I don't do the game in the next 10 years, I'll just write up the rest of the story and put it on my website for closure, how about that?" Closure is one thing, but there's a part of me that dearly hopes he'll eventually reunite with Richard Gaubert and the rest of the team to give the game a proper send-off. In Hall's own words, Anachronox was "made for the love of it," and that's not a feeling you can simply let go.
This would in fact be a good question for KS: hey Tom, I loved Anachronox... Was it you or Richard that wrote it? Will he be on the project?

I don't care who wrapped up the story, since it was pretty meh overall. It is the brilliant execution in writing companions, what made it memorable
But yeah, maybe you're right. I don't know any more then what credits say.

I am just disappointed how moronic this whole thing becomes. Crowdfunding should be about showing some honest work, a proof of concept...
Before asking for funds to finish the thing and flesh it out with content and production values. Like Grim Dawn, or FTL.
It seems that instead, the more vague you are and the less effort you put beforehand, the more cash you get.

More and more scams and hipster shit is getting funded.
At this pace within a year kickstarter landscape will be as disgusting as big publishers offerings.

Some Obsidian devs delivered quality work personally, a few times already, both as Obsidian and under Black Isles.
I want them to have a chance to grab once all the profits from their project and start from there on their own.
They provided enough info, to more or less expect what the game is going to be, unlike this thing.
Even if PE is not exactly what I would want, they have a one free pass from me.

It often turns out, that producers and known celebrities grab all the credits, for work done by someone who worked in the trenches.
So, if I am supposed to throw money at their names and past achievements alone, I want to know first...

Who actually wrote all hilarious companions for Anachronox ?
What exactly was Brenda responsible for in Wizardry 8 ?

Not pledging yet. The project is too vague and the names involved don't compensate for that (as was the case with PE). Looking forward to learning more details.

I thought the music in the part where Tom is "playing" a modern game sounded familiar: it's the combat music from Swords and Sorcery: Underworld Gold. What's up with that Charles-cgr? Where is it from originally?

Characters: Create a group of up to 4 characters, choosing from multiple races and professions.

Combat: Turn-based combat harkens back to the days when spells and swords hit hard and last-second healing spells saved the day.

Am I missing something? I understand their roll-out pitch must have been something awful. And maybe the "get 2 RPGs" offer is kind of wierd.

But these two design objectives alone... a party centric turn-based combat cRPG... along with influence from past titles such as Wizardry? Sounds glorious.

Of course it's too early to commit without forthcoming details, if you want to hoard your wealth like a dwarf. But I support this project in principle.

Harumph!

Modern RPGs aren't old school-y enough

Stopped watching pitch video right there.

I want old school style games because I'm tired of my intelligence being insulted, not because they're not trying to be funny while doing it.

I can't be bothered to read the previous 5 pages of this thread and I'm sure it's been brought up but the 2.1 million "Mobile Support" goal basically confirms it will be crap.

I wouldn't be very surprised if they are seriously developing the game in Flash or HTML5. They don't have any experience nor staff to make 3D stuff, so I guess even with 2 mio the game will be fully 2D.
