Texture resolution is very very low and as a result everything looks blurry, surely not as crisp as the original torment art. Also not liking some of the washed out colours. Goddamn I miss color palette restricted games from yore :(

Other than that, pleasantly surprised!

listen there were no characters who were blue plant lesbians that's what art departments are for I thought

Wish the texture quality would be a bit better

yeah...the environments are low-rez, aren't they. and not nitpickily low-rez, like, "I feel like I should be squinting" low-rez. I mean, it's one of those things we'll stop noticing immediately if-and-when the game is worth it, but it's true that Torment was a genre landmark for lovingly detailed backdrop paintings.

The mood seems sufficiently "torment-y" and I like what InXile's animators have cooked up so far; characters are a bit floaty, but their movements look fairly natural and better than I would have expected at this stage of development.

I eagerly await to see how the gameplay actually shakes out, but I suspect the "choose your own adventure" investigation parts will be satisfactory. Good stuff.

It's amazing. I have two tiny quibbles though: (1) the human anatomy diagram looks stock, rather than like something crafted for the setting (but perhaps that's by design given the overlapping historical cultures, etc.); (2) for a Cold, Calculating character, the Jack seemed a little feel-good.

Not as impresive as the PoE reveal but the vibe and tone of the game just seem right for that Torment vibe. Will probably up my pledge after this...
Well played Fargo and co

To be fair, I don't think that's a problem with the textures. It looks like it is just a crappy video compression. I have a feeling that the textures are actually much better than the video shows.

That looks fucking beautiful.
I haven't been following this at all. There were also quite few updates. I just realized that I had pledged more than for the other KSs although this was the game I had the least expections for.
The graphix are beautiful and generate a great atmosphere. I especially like the dialogue UI. Exactly the type of UI I want.
The tiny quibble I have, is that movement is very floaty. You see it especially on the stairs.
But for a pre-alpha (?) it was very impressive.

EDIT: To me it also shows how games should have been developed/udated graphix-wise back in the day. Instead of going "Hey, 3D is teh best. It's over 9000. Lets make NWN!"

You need to set Youtube to HD. Textures are mostly fine just some parts of the bloom look a bit washed out. Maybe that's just because they're unfinished, otherwise it would be a pretty weird inconsistency.
UI look cool too.
Overall give a nice Torment feeling and Mark Morgan's music helps a lot.

This is the Kickstarter I backed the most ($125, which is A LOT of money for me), because Torment is by far my most beloved game. And while I had little hope that inXile will be able to create something comparable, I was willing to bet just for an off chance of that happening.

Recently I have been thinking that this game has no chance of matching the overall quality of original Torment, because I read some retrospectives which reminded me how great that game was when it comes to setting, characters, story, overall writing, visual and audio design and the overall, how to say it 'imagination richness' of the game.

After watching this video, my worries are maybe not completely gone, but largely reduced. It seems that nailed the basics, at least. Hopefully, the whole package will feel right too.

Do not fail me, inXile.

They beat the crap out of PoE in two areas. UI and music.
Obsidian. step up your game, ffs. To have inXile of all people make a better UI than you is humiliating.

But to be fair, both W2 and PoE were looking good when they were only trailers. But i'm starting to have more hope in inXile, because they seem to have their priorities straight. They know what the backers want, and stay as close to the original's design as possible, trying to improve the areas that objectively sucked.( i.e. combat, redusing it on top of theoreticaly improving it, so even if they fuck it up, it will still be better than the original because there will be less)

Instead Obsidian gave the game to Sawyer, who is much more ambitious. Instead of making a BG2-PS:T hybrid which is the direction all the backers would have liked, he tries to do his own thing, something that half the backers will love and half will hate. Some of them hating already.
Normaly i have nothing against ambition, even with design goals i don't agree with. But to have design goals i don't agree with, in a game i bought as a spiritual successor to games i loved and hadn't those design goals, leaves me sceptical.
I would had liked a BG2-PST hybrid as the IE successor game, and then, as their second kickstarter they could go as wild as they wanted, selling it as it's own thing.

Plus, i find funny that Obsidian tried the most safe , risk free approach posible with the "generic high fantasy", "D&D but not quite" etc., and then as far as gameplay goes, they chose to experiment and gave as a controversial system that alienates many people way more than a strange setting would ever do.

Well, they made it look and feel like Torment, no doubt about that. Just please, don't pull off another Sawyer.

Depends what you mean by pulling a Sawyer. You realize this game isn't even pretending to be D&D-inspired, right? The Numenera system is extraordinarily simple, with three stats and three classes. If you hate streamlined character creation then you'll find no respite here.

And there are only supposed to be about a dozen major battles in the entire game. You can't really compare.

That's it. I need somebody to explain to me what "to pull a Sawyer", "sawyerist", and other Josh Sawyer-derived words mean. Too tired of not understanding wtf is going on.
