I don't see any reason to trust Fargo and co less now than when they launched W2.

Many people have conceptions on what Kickstarter is for. Some may see this as milking the goodwill of the backers.
But that is what Kickstarter is for.
To varying degrees every Kickstarter is, but they also have other factors in the mix. In TTN's case specifically it's "use the profits from WL2". Which is why Brother None goes around explaining production cycles.

Many people just don't seem to get patronage and how game production runs kinda like a CPU pipeline or factory production line.

Except that instead of just sucking power your pipeline stages can be permanently lost when they're idle.
...
That metaphor sounded much better in my head :P

They already commented on the George Ziets one.
"George is a great creative designer (and, of course, Kevin would certainly like to work with George again)."
I swear I wasn't trying to dig up more on Ziets I just clicked it and it was there.

You probably want the game free and open-source anyway.

If The People pays for the development of code, then by rights the Source should belong to The People. :obviously:

But trolling aside, I couldn't care less about the source code. I'd much rather see a non-shitty game. and until inXile puts WL2 out there, their ability to make something that isn't a bug-ridden mess remains unknown.

nice, holding quality of game hostage - give us more money, or else...

By that line of reasoning, they're holding the entire game "hostage."

The question (of whether or not the backgrounds will be 2D) more-or-less forced the developers to give us a completely honest answer, if they gave one at all. If they reassured us that the backgrounds would be 2D and then were ultimately unable to deliver on that promise due to a lackluster campaign, we'd rip their throats out—and rightly so (metaphorically speaking, of course). It's something unpleasant to have to hear, and I'm still not sure when starving artists suddenly started dining on salmon roe and $2,000 brandy served on the backs of gold-plated Japanese supermodels, but I don't work in the industry. Apparently, basically competent artists are expensive as fuck. They already have to have some artists regardless of how well the campaign goes, and I find it odd that 2D backgrounds are the sticking point, but... whatever.

Maybe someone here should put up an idea to have pre-rendered graphics be factored into the base cost rather than be a stretch goal.

Well yeah. We can't make the game we don't have a budget for. That's kind of the purpose of stretch goals, no? If we hit minimum we'll be able to make the game, but it'll be a lot less limited in scope, and that scope extends to graphic quality.

Also, you can do a lot to emulate a painterly style in 3D. I also think 2D is better-suited, but it's not an absolute, dichotomic either-or question.

Assuming they ask for 1 million, that 2 to 3 times the asking. That's "rather well", I'd say.

It'd be bananas. Honestly it would.

Another idea is for Brian and co. to move the fuck out of California and settle down someplace that doesn't require $10,000 per month to live any lifestyle other than hanging out in a cardboard box and dumpster diving for food. It's a thought. On the other hand, maybe a lot of inXile's employees work long-distance. I wouldn't know.

Hiver had an idea were some locations would be pre-rendered 2d and some would be 3D. Is there any chance InXile would do something like that, or would the difference in aesthetics be too great?

It's p. genius anyway, 2D backgrounds as stretch goal is guaranteed overfunding.

On the plus side, California's climate lets you do that year round.

Also, I think the creative/technical talent tends to be very geographically centralized...i in exactly the places that require 10k a month. There's talent elswhere, its just the density is much higher.

My favorite BN related piece of info is when he got banned from The Escapist for being rational, non-insulting, and making sense.

EDIT: haha, wtf hiver

Tsk, tsk. If you were as nice to BN as I am, you would get to affect the Torment Kickstarter too. :troll:

I was hired as a producer, and that is what I am spending the largest part of my time on, with a strong current focus on working closely with Kevin to set up Torment and its Kickstarter, but I'm also working with the WL2 team on several of their production-end needs. Community and public communication is one part of my job, and reading/posting on forums is just a part of that. I was already doing that before I was brought on board, would be a bit senseless to pay me to just do exactly what I was doing.
