I'll probably get a box unless they say something that offends me.

So basically, you're not getting a box.

Not sure how I feel about all the translations + Linux. Seems like a lot of resources for something that's supposedly going to be on a shoestring budget, but what do I know.

We are happy to support localized versions of Torment for our Polish and Russian fans due to their passionate feelings about RPGs.

We Slavs will work for few potato, so that's hardly a blow to the budget.

Yeah, I was being inclusive, I'm mostly raised-eyebrows at Linux and Mac, Mac I can sort of understand because so many hipsters buy ipencildick laptops these days, but Linux seems like a very low-payoff thing to include, how many people use Linux and don't just get by with a good emulator or dualboot?

Porting to Mac with Unity consists of pressing a button and waiting one hour. Tadaa, there's your Mac port.

Linux is not quite as easy but I think the Unity guys are working on improving things on that end. It was a slightly trickier decision but we decided including it standard just makes more sense, and trying to leverage it solo into a stretch goal would be a bit dickish.

Fucking potato privilege.
Fargo shows us proper respect, as he knows we will yet to save the RPG industry with our mature, bloody, potato non political correct games, while most of kwa vanilla games will turn into LGBT romance simulators. :rpgcodex:

Decline is coming. Embrace potato while you can.
And there are onions too.

Yes but it will have Planescape Torment walls of text. I thought you didn't like that and prefered mor action in gameplay.
I doubt it'll have the word count of Torment. Brian Fargo even gave Avellone a stern lecture about how he made them go overbudget on the localization costs. Plus I'm going to blindly trust that the combat will actually be fun this time.

Why would you think that? Fargo donated to Tropes vs Women. McComb wrote a book that handled women decently enough. Since it takes place in a weird, wacky place I doubt there will be any cultural appropriation to worry about.

Was your problem with Torment the word count or the way the game was more about dialogues than combat?

Nine whole months of preproduction! You can do a lot of writing in nine months. :smug:

I hope for bigger word count than Torment. After all the game will have better and fewer combat than Torment. Something has to fill the gap. +M

Combination of too much text, too much sexism, too much combat (because the vast majority of it wasn't interesting), and too much fetching and fedexing (complete with snarky journal entries talking about how tedious it all was which just annoyed me further because they knew it was boring and put it in anyway).

More words doesn't = better writing and as I mentioned that seems unlikely with Fargo.

As far as interference-from-above goes, we probably could have used more than we had - like Fallout, Torment was sort of under the radar for a while, and the producer role changed several times over the course of the project. Brian Fargo was mostly hands off, except to complement us on the writing, and give me a pretty stern lecture (deservedly) about the localization costs for the game.
Also: "Complement." Some writer.

I'm only extrapolating future events based on the (safe) assumption that if someone gave you a cupcake, you would throw it on the ground because a) it is a cryptopatriarchal cupcake and b) accepting it would perpetuate the ciscentered stereotype that women enjoy baked goods, which would in-of-itself only encourage the enslavement of women everywhere.

More words!= better writting but i go with the belief that the writting will be good or else what's the point in this project anyway.
As for word count i wouldn't be so sure. Torment was just a random game among many. I would have lectured MCA myself if i was his bosh. An unproven game costing way above average for localization.
But for this project the whole point is to be similar with Torment and is directed to its fanbase. And i don't think those who consider Torment a masterpiece will have problem with writting. If anything they will excpect a large word count.
