Totally Not Corrupt Professional Objective Gaming Journalism DRAMA

I like how in that Street Fighter video he can name every Street Fighter character offhand (I could name maybe 3 or 4, I'm dumb) but has trouble with Chess aspects like "Rook things" and "Dark side or black side or whatever". Not to mention what a shitty Chess set that is with different models for the same unit type of the same color even. Different models between colors is iffy but acceptable, but god damn.

You'd really only have to horribly murder maybe two of them and leave behind a manifesto for them to straighten out and fly right. Maybe gut a beloved pet every couple of months around major release dates*

It wouldn't be so bad if they were commentators instead of 'objective reviewers'. Commentators can say and do what ever the fuck they want because it is all about their biased opinion (NPR and FOX news). Reviews have to follow a certain objective standard or they are just defrauding potential customers for the corporate machine. Hell, I don't trust book or movie reviews farther than I can toss them, so I guess I shouldn't give game reviews any slack.

EDIT: I wonder how much extra grief PC Gamer is going to get in their comments after this. I can already see the flood comments bringing up DA 2 getting a 94. It already happens every review that scores well anyway though.

She's proof appearances often deceive. She seems innocent and is quite cute, and yet did this false advertising.

Plus she has worked for Playboy and her Twitter name is atheist.

Girls who look and act like they're still 12 but then ask you and your best friend to fuck them in the ass are all the rage now-a-days.

More on-topic: As said by many others who are more eloquent than me, gaming "press" and PR have been so intertwined for decades now that there really is no gaming press. If you're excited about the potential for "change" ask yourself what that change is. I can't picture any gaming "journalism" that could possibly be more than regurgitated press releases or like-minded individuals talking about what they like and don't like. I get all that from bluesnews and forums like this one.

Ignore this pretend news shit and it will go away entirely. It's not needed.

The rot has been there for years. Little personal anecdote. Long time (five or so years) ago I heard about a possible job opening at Duch gaming rag Power Unlimited. They're a mag squarely aimed at gaming teens and early twenty kids. The same people also run a tv gaming show called Game Kings. Loves to show footage of the rad press trips they take all over the worlds. So, as I do with any prospective employer I delve a little into the company. Turns out that both the mag and show are part of Blammo Media. Which is also in the business of making big launch events for games. And doing public relations for publishers. And is run by the exact same people that run the mag and tv show. On their corporate website they even cite the mag and show for making them more effective in promoting ones product to the chosen target group. I walked away in disgust.

Keighley always reminds me of a porn star.

Also, even though I know AngryJoe is a retard, but, here is an interview with Keighley he made, and he actually has some valid points (why there are no fucking best PC game category at his VGA's? why is there a pornstar in your award show ready to undress herself?)

Also, for a games expert, it sure shows that he knows about his games, since FFXIV came out (watch and see for yourself).

This Angry Joe's video shows nicely what kind of cynical, nepotistic, capitalist pigs those guys are. Scum of the earth.

Sums up everything. :P

But seriously, what happened is:

PR was giving free PS3 to gaming journalists that hastagged tombraider,
Bro at eurogamer made article about how unethical that is and pointed out that one of the journalists even works for Square-Enix, despite reviewing SE games as a freelancer.
Said journalist gets pissed, threatens to sue Eurogamer, article is edited and it's author leaves Eurogamer.
Shitstorm, lots of DRAMA, journalists & PR *(incuiding REX, btw) go "nothing to see here", while some rebels go on to show just how corrupted the industry is through various examples.

:bro: Angry Joe is actually one of the better game reviewers I have seen. He admits his bias and tries to explain his rationale thoroughly to allow viewers to understand what exactly works and is broken in those games. I think he has some poor tastes, but that is because he came from console gaming and not because of any dislike for complex ones.

Thanks felipepe! I'm kinda glad I never watch or read any of such reviews anyway. They've been barebones useless for years already so I wonder what the big fuss is about.

The hashtag was not related to Tomb Raider. The Tomb Raider tweet was referenced as being a a couple down in her history from the comment she made on the contest. fuck me if I am too lazy to find where it is documented.

EDIT: The whole controversy of her relationship with Square-Enix and the shameless promotion of Tomb Raider did not come up until fans researched her.

Regardless of my taste for games he seems to like the most and for things that make games great for him as well as those that put him off games, I think objectively one has to admit he puts lots of effort into his reviews. He really does play through the games he reviews.
Also, there's some obvious honesty going on and i respect that. One more thing that i like about his work is that he's neither malicious nor too benevolent a priori, when he approaches any game.

The thing that I subjectively don't like and that isn't satisfying for me is that he's obviously quite a bit of a nextgenfag and consolefag. He also focuses on new AAA titles, which generally don't interest me.

But all in all, I'm not ashamed to say I like his stuff. Yes, he's not "hardcore", he's not "oldschool", he's not even very knowledgeable when it comes to classic games, but what he does - he does well.

Is just like Totalbiscut was saying, people should find a guy they identify with and follow him; Angry Joe has console tastes, but it's a very honest guy about it, I respect the guy, he is clearly devoted to his tastes & audience.

The hashtag was not related to Tomb Raider
True, sorry.

I was talking about angry joe. Sorry if my poor grammar indicated otherwise, and I agree 100% with this post you made.

Haahahaha, this is too good.

To be fair, he never played the originals. I am pretty sure he would like NV more than 3. I could be wrong since he never reviewed it. :P

EDIT: It is really late here and my posts are shit because of sleepyhead. I should know better. :retarded:

So I'm at a game event, and Important Game Journalist A is badmouthing, openly badmouthing, the Web site I'm working for. I'm not sure why he's doing it, he seems a bit of an ass, but I have no desire to say anything. Until the guy remarks about how above-board he is, how he is a real journalist in a sea of hot-garbage hacks.

That sounds something what finnish veteran gaming journalist Niko Nirvi could do :D

He's been pissing on gaming websites and "website "journalists"" occasionally in his column in the finnish gaming magazine Pelit (The Games in english), basicly saying that they're fucking dumb and doesn't understand anything about games or gaming. Unfortunately it seems that he's gone a bit senile in couple last years since he's been really defending DRMs, even the Ubishit's "Gotta be always online"-shitbucket.

He also have sometimes more and less clearly been talking about the rampant corruption of the so-called gaming journalism in his columns, I remember one snippet from the late 90s or early 2000s I think where he wrote that there were rumours circulating that one big publisher got more "traditional recretional activity" from the certain kind of female entertainers to the 'journalists' from huge american or english magazine.
