Losing Romhacking.net hurts, a lot stuff won't have the visibility buried in some forums
Forums have been dying for years and even links there are old compared to Discord. Discord is taking over for rom hacks and it is a nightmare.

Do you know active romhacking one?

I dislike it but if its the only way to keep track of release then I'll bite

Its dogshit because documentation and historical progress are really hard to keep track of especially as we have real time chat with terrible noise to content ratii
Late, but it's also terrible even on the face of it. Even if there was great noise to content ratii, you would still be taking something that's going to be a lot of text and breaking it up over smaller messages. Chat programs are terrible for anything you need to get out longform. (not to mention it's this chat part that's causing this massive shitstorm to begin with)

It's also terrible simply because putting your releases there are very annoying. I can't imagine why people are apparently okay with checking twenty different Discord servers for updates on a release, for something only released on a Discord server.

What's wrong with romhacking.net? Some kind of tranny drama? Someone give me the tl:dr

tl:dr

The domain owner had complete and absolute control over the website. Mods were basically glorified interns, problems could take days to be resolved until he decided to act.

The site became too big for him to manage alone and with an archaic structure. He would abandon everything unless he found someone specific following his criteria. No one would ever be able to meet it.

Mods get butthurt and talk bad about him behind his back. He gets even more butthurt and shuts down the site for real. Chaos ensues.

There's also the fact modders became power-mad and were mad/trannies, and the owner didn't want to do anything with them and couldn't or wouldn't be able to replace them, so he pulled the plug.

github (etc.) are apparently a big place for fan translations now. Means someone else can pick up when the creator inevitably burns out/stops caring instead of wondering if someone is still working on it.

Hm, there seems to be a patch for yo kai watch 4. Drama happens and the primary project is dead with bugs still around and other people forking stuff.
Every single fucking time.
If anybody is interested here is the continuation still being updated that looks to be worth checking out:
https://gamebanana.com/mods/480884

Also another monster raising game got translated, the Telefang games for the GBC:

For a lot of "gamers" it's not about actually playing videogames it's about gamer culture.

Wizardry 7 PSX got a translation

Never thought I would see that

http://www.zaqmusic.com/WIZ7/WIZ7_ENG_PATCH_V1_0.zip

https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardry/comments/yibwyg/wizardry_7_psone_jp_differences_to_the_pc_version/

I was checking some old forums and noticed these differences:

- reinvention of the graphics, translational differences, and new music

- Character creation is much easier and faster. You can cancel the character at any point during creation by simply pushing one button-- as soon as you choose the character's name, race, and gender and see that your desired class is not available, you can instantly cancel the creation and start again, without having to distribute points, choose a picture, seal your karma, etc. Also very high rolls (19-26) come up often enough so that you can create a team of six members using only super-high rolls (23-26) in under two hours

- This game also has a very convenient, and non-intrusive auto-mapping feature that seems better than the one on Wizardry Gold.

- Bela is also included in this game as an enounter in the Greater Wilds-- if you defeat him, you have the chance to earn some of the unique items from Bane, since it is impossible to import a Bane party on the Playstation. Also some extra treasures are sprinkled throughout the game, such as a Diamond Ring in a hidden room of the Dane Tower.

- One major change to this version is relations with NPC's. Conversations are conducted through menus and choices, which is nice because you don't have to bother typing anything and there is always a list of suggestions that will provoke interesting responses. However, the problem with this is that if you haven't discovered a password or learned a key phrase yet, it does not apppear on the menu. For example, in New City you have to ask the innkeeper about the weapons shop before you can choose to mention the black market to the Umpani weapons dealer and initiate an exchange. It seems this makes the game more challenging and balanced, so that you always have to go through the game in the correct order and you don't have to write down any messages.

- For the Playstation version, there is a special place on the screen where the automap always appears, between the six orbs for spells like Enchanted Blade, Armorplate, etc. It is tiny, but does the trick.

- Picking the locks on doors and disarming treasure chests has also been simplified into an automatic menu. It's easier because all you have to do is click the button (once for doors, twice for chests-- once to try to identify the trap, and once more to disarm it)

- if you have a character with high enough Intelligence and Dexterity ratings, they can automatically learn the Skulduggery skill when they try to unlock a door or chest. This can be useful in case you don't want a ninja, thief, bard, or ranger in your party, or you would rather a faster-developing character specialize in the skill.

Nice font Young Man.
In case anybody doesn't know at this point, the problem there is that Japanese games usually have awkward English fonts which any real translation will replace with something that doesn't look a w k w a r d l y s p a c e d . Hell, even that guy who did the shitty machine language translation of the PC-98 games replaced the font with something workable, so that goes to show how half-assed the work of whoever published this was.

Popolocrois Monogatari II English translation: https://www.timeextension.com/news/...ri-2-for-ps1-gets-new-english-fan-translation

I wanted to share an update on the Brightis (PSX) English translation. I found this github and (forgive me) reddit post, as well as an old summer 2024 post on that rom-hacking website:
https://github.com/Dickdebonair/Brightis-fan-translation
https://www.reddit.com/r/romhacking/comments/1feihq3/looking_for_hackers_brightis_jpeng_fan/
https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=39324.0

The reddit thread was started 2 months ago and the latest post is only 6 days old. The github seems to be updated regularly, too. It's happening, bros.

Does it fix the whole game, or just parts of it? The description says
This is a proof-of-concept ROM that should be fully playable, but as of this patch version, the retranslation only goes through the first South Cape segment.
but I think it's because it's outdated. 1.0 would suggest that it's the complete game, but you never know. I had this game recommended to me just the other week, but gave up on it because the translation is clearly nonsense.
