I mostly got into it, which is unusual for me, but it is easily the most verbose game I've played in years. I just set it to auto-move the dialogue boxes and set down the controller to watch it like a movie for those sequences. It definitely would be improved by having far less dialogue and more game though.Tried playing this recently, and while I liked the "gameplay" part, the amount of VN bullshit is simply insufferable.
Not to mention the translation in general. These people seem to think they're the next Tolkien or something. Lest we forget the removal of the words 'woman' and 'women'.Tried playing this recently, and while I liked the "gameplay" part, the amount of VN bullshit is simply insufferable.
Yeah, it probably depends on your difficulty level, but certainly on hard you need to repeat the side missions if you want to keep your abilities trained up and gear upgraded. New missions open up as you progress the story and they offer better rewards so it's not necessarily that you should repeat them to cap everyone before moving on, but there's definitely some element of this type of grind to consider.I considered picking up this game at launch but decided against it when I read it allowed repeated farming of optional missions and is balanced around that. Is that true? Opinions on Codex seem very positive so far.

Yeah this actually makes me more excited for it, because I'm so sick of games coming along on the too easy side, with no solution. At least this way if the difficulty is too high, you have a solution. I would take 1 or 2 grind missions any day of the week than a promising game that has no challenge.I considered picking up this game at launch but decided against it when I read it allowed repeated farming of optional missions and is balanced around that. I only ever played the optional missions once each, and I think I remember a couple occasions where the team clearly needed a little more XP? But that's not the same as needing to grind throughout.
Yeah, I should note that the times that I replayed the side missions, it was more about wanting to see things like new tiers of upgraded abilities or what the next weapon tier was, than strictly needing to do it to progress. As I mentioned, it probably depends at least a bit on what your preferences are and how OCD you are about upgrading stuff.I considered picking up this game at launch but decided against it when I read it allowed repeated farming of optional missions and is balanced around that. I would have enjoyed this more if it was a FFT or Tactics Ogre clone, but it's not. No builds/setups/loadouts other than accessories. Makes me wonder why they even bothered with stats or level ups? I might have enjoyed it more if there were no stats/levels/gear of any kind and it was just a turn based strategy game. I would have loved to have the option of making even 1 choice about my character's builds, such as picking between a couple of different class upgrade options, but you don't get the option for even a simple choice like this. The strategic elements to the combat aren't strong enough on their own to hold the whole game up, I honestly wasn't that impressed. I found ways to cheese/trivialize the battles using clear and obvious synergies. The game was a bit too dialogue/cutscene heavy for my liking, I skipped most of the cutscenes. It's a 6/10 game for me.
I even liked Vandal Hearts 1 & 2 better than this game.

It's a visual novel with fights essentially.
I thought
Exactly. The combat seemed solid, but the plot made zero sense, and it took ages to skip through it. The "investigation" parts are even worse. You basically wander around clicking on everything for tiny pieces of loot. I couldn't manage to get very far at this rate.Tried playing this recently, and while I liked the "gameplay" part, the amount of VN bullshit is simply insufferable.
