I think I might pull a Roguey and let this game cook until it's done, few balance and content patches as well as expansions are necessary. I like what I see so far, I think the game was mis-marketed however, as if it would be some narrative about consequences and philosophy of evil, a la MOTB or kotr, when it's more just a power fantasy of representing a conquering army against rebels and solving the issues with the conquest itself, at least from what I have seen so far.
Have you finished the game?

No but I am a fair bit into it, if 24 hours is supposed to be its length. The game I find really enthralling in an odd way but it's literally not what developers sold it as. I am not sure whether I should be satisfied or disappoint by that.
Oh, alright. I'm just finding it odd to see some people dismissing the game halfway through while talking about a cliff-hanger ending and shit like that lol.

What the fuck is up with the huge loadtimes? They're even longer than what I recall in early PoE FFS
Loads faster than PoE over here.

How much influence did Sawyer have on Tyranny? I'm assuming not much. Some of Sawyer's ideas seem borderline antithetical to having fun, but with a setting focused on realistic evil, his pragmatism and DM'ing experience would've likely served the game well.
Purely some advice on the game design side when Heines wanted it.
Thanks for the info, but dang, that's disappointing. I'm struggling to finish PoE for a variety of reasons but I can appreciate Sawyer's design philosophies and the man seems self-critical in a lot of positive ways that could potentially lead to a much improved sequel. I was hoping that'd get applied to Tyranny, but I guess not.

If it's half as good as Obsidian's better work then it'll still be worth playing eventually, but with the cliffhanger ending and apparent gameplay issues I'll join the "patches/expansions then buy" crowd for now.
I think PoE improved a lot over its patch life time and I look forward to PoE2 in terms of design. Sawyer's PoE Post-Mortrem presentation was also very interesting and left me hopeful.
However I just don't think they'll match PoE in terms of plot, even if PoE wasn't exactly extremely brilliant, it was still good. Call me a misogynist all you want, but I don't think a female writer can carry the metaphysical themes of the first game forward without fucking it up or mixing romance with it.

I am really looking forward PoE2, especially if they will employ some of the design decisions in tyranny. I think the companions system is just better, they talk more, they are more reactive to your actions (via loyalty/fear but also just interaction), they talk with each other and contribute to the conversations in a way it doesn't seem like a side comment only. Sawyer also learns well and is extremely open to criticism so I am confident that the systems will be in place. I think this faction and companion reputation system should be implemented to PoE as well. Especially love the way conversation options are locked or change based on them. One thing to add to Tyranny would be however removing any dialogue option you have already gone through that isn't locked behind reputation. It feels weird being able to go through long dialogue chains of personal questions.

The first minutes of this game are some of the most insufferable pretentious pap I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through. Hard to justify these 30 second long loadtimes.

This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder if Obsidian has any testing at all. I'm talking actual code testing not putting some tards that don't even understand the mechanics to play the game and write bug reports.

Its fun so far as I came but will continue to play when they patch those crashes and long loading times out of game.... which is so far not all about evil but how to manage conquest and military occupation sim so far. Thank you for selling untested game for full price Obshitian and Paradox by the way. :hero:

Well i demoed it anyway and feel vindicated... this is Beta or even Alpha as far as stability and performance go.

I now consider being evil in a world where evil hasn't won yet would be far more interesting, if people would react way more wildly to it rather than understand it's just the way things are.

Maybe the people in the game were mislead by mainstream media into thinking that kyrios is evil.
Every think of that?

The evil is noticeably light on the ground in act 1. Very much good guy Kyros until you come to 2-3 "example" evil events sprinkled out through the story, and whilst some of them do warm a cynical Codexer's cockles it's sort of only limited to PG13 evil. Aka no bashing a child's head in, no sex, most of it is sort of schoolyard bullying. Nothing close to the stuff you would expect from your average grimdark fantasy novel, which is weird because I would have thought that would've really helped it to sell well and review well.

Also some take no prisoner's slaughtering of your enemies but that's less evil more just plain realism.
I mean,
you can let the chorus loose on an innocent town which ends in rape and pillaging for awhile until they get bored and leave, though it happens off-screen. You can force a shit and piss-covered prisoner to bash two of her comrade's skulls in with a rock to prove her loyalty. I've only played for a few hours--no option to rape people yourself or anything so far, but did you really expect that? If you wanna be an asshole rather than lawful evil, side with the Chorus I guess?

The performance is fucking atrocious. I'm getting 32-35fps in some parts of Lethian's Crossing.
same thing happened in PoE for me. Only reloading the client fixed it temporarily. After 20 mins of game time it'd go back to shit fps.

That's enough for some people, especially for newcomers who've never played a game with real branching and reactivity. But I suspect that Tyranny is currently selling chiefly to the established Obsidian/PoE fanbase, and those fans may be hoping for more than the game offers. Will be interesting to see how reactions develop over the new few weeks.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I spared Matani in Echocall Crossing. Was there someone else?
How did you save Matani? I chose to let her go but then I upset the Chorus commander and the game forced me to choose whether to kill her or let the Chorus capture her.

You can either select "Don't make me repeat myself" or "Run before it's too late" and she'll leave before the Disfavoured and Scarlet Chorus arrive. I didn't have to do anything else in my playthrough.

I deliberately did not read much of anything about this game so that I came to it with no preconceived ideas or notions.

I love this game.

it's a real, honest-to-goodness computer game. Interesting world, fascinating characters, insightful improvements over PoE's design, great art direction, fun and tactical combat. Highly recommended.

Now returning to blissful ignorance of this discussion....

I'm curious -- when does Sirin join? I'm in act two and so far I already have everyone but her and Kills in shadows (or whatever the beast's name is).

I started on PoTD expert and HC, died at the crossing / bridge fight. Combat is alright, though I wish there wasn't as much hp bloat, it's nearly impossible to focus targets down properly and you don't have that many tools in the beginning to make things work, guess HC is out of the picture for now.
