They did a neat thing where you can set the tab key as a toggle instead of a hold as well, new trick for the genre.

Beat Act I last night.
+ All the trappings of an RPG are there - classes, NPCs, skills, items, choices, etc.
+ Graphics are OK.
+ There is some kind of a story going on.
- The RPG systems are weak-sauce. Items and spells were much more interesting in the IE games. Here everything feels muddled.
- Encounters are bland - so far it has always been your party vs 3-6 goons.

So it's not as good as the old IE games but it's all right other than that.

Just steered playing, already bothered by them carrying over the "sneak to discover hidden crap" mechanic from PoE, as well as having the tap the tab key to find out which containers are lootable (though that's a general gripe with this type of isometric game)

You can discover without snek, but apparently sneak adds extra bonus.

Also changed my mind about magic. As long as you pump lore asap you're golden. Also magic staff is a trap - unarmed mage is the best mage - short recoveries+ punching in times of need is actually better than magic staffs :M

Went a little farther and everything is pretty much how you describe it. Encounters themselves didn't change much, but with artifacts and levels combat got a little more bearable, so there's that.

In general, game feels like PoE 1.2 (not even 1.5, let alone 2.0). There are some improvements and I can't find a proper reason to hate it yet, but it all seems so bland and meh. There's little to no detail when it comes to locations which is just killing the mood for me. Setting, story and characters are alright though.

forgetting all other RPG traditions aka use nukes instead dummy
:?

Control mages and self-buff mages are the best builds in PoE currently, with nukers being the worst. Still doable, just not as good
If you mean wizards specifically, well they never had really badass combat spells compared to other classes. But they were better before immunities were introduced. But POE has more options for spellcasters in the beginning, by a lot. But that's a weakness/maybe a feature of Tyranny sigil system.

Call me a misogynist all you want, but I don't think a female writer can carry the metaphysical themes of the first game forward without fucking it up or mixing romance with it. They just don't have the genuine interest in those more abstract themes to produce anything of worth.
False.
How would I know?
I've read this.
I wasn't talking about science fiction.

Tip for spellcrafting:
6flrPKC.png

Use that item with your best mage/your character to increase the Lore skill right before spellcrafting. Temporary bonuses work in spellcrafting all the same (including the Spire Rest bonus, which adds another 5), which means you have enough Lore for an extra Accent depending on the spell type.

I seem to be having the same problem on PotD as I had in PoE. I tried there to make a paladin tank, but he died waaay too fast for a tank, regardless of stats, now I'm trying to make a tank again and it's the same problem, I don't understand. Barik can take more punishment than me and I have almost twice the defenses he has. Any tips? Also, the combat UI is a mess, I can hardly understand what is going on, maybe I'm just stupid.

Talent trees seem tacked on, almost pointless. They are literally Dragon Age 2's talent trees (spells have almost the same icons as DA2's) and they were as pointless there as well. They devalue your stat choices because they don't require stats, just levels, and that's an MMO mechanic. The "increase by doing" is tedious because I have to micromanage everyone's cooldowns to gain the most out of that, I even stopped attacking enemies so I can use all my cooldowns before they die.

You were talking about metaphysical themes and that "they just don't have the genuine interest in those more abstract themes". Sci-Fi isn't just battle droids and space battles (also the stories in the book are from 19th / early 20th century). One of the story is about a guy who can't die of old age and he contemplates how shitty it actually is. Another is about people getting lost in different dimension after they are "dragged" into it through a painting on the wall. In another, insectoids from Venus ask people of Earth to help them fight some dangerous vermin that plagues their planet - in fact humans.

A couple thoughts: I intended to make a durable fighter who wears heavy armor, I bumped up finesse quite a lot for deflection. However, it turns out that heavy armor doesn't actually get any bonus from finesse (no deflection on heavy armor). So, the choice is between higher damage reduction from heavy armor or hit-downgrading from deflection % on light armor (% chance for crit->hit, hit->graze, and graze->miss -- my MC currently has 65% deflection a few hours into the game). Both have their upsides: in theory heavy armor is better for absorbing damage around your max DR w/o armor penetration, light armor better for absorbing damage from big hits or with high armor pen. Playing on PotD so far I've met a slew of archer who do 30-40 damage a hit, and my MC seems far better at tanking them than the heavily armored companion you get, but MC's parry is so high that he can tank the fast hitting melee characters almost as well, too. Maybe there's some great heavy armor later in the game, but right now it seems like high finesse light armor + shield is a better damage sponge. More knowledgeable codexers feel free to prove me wrong.

Also, just met Sirin, and she comes off as written by a pretentious twat. "She looks both at ease and uncomfortable - composed in her element and completely unsure." Does she look completely unsure or composed? I really don't have a better word to describe it than pretentious. "Her voice takes you off guard. It is bare of any inflection, and yet full of beautiful music." Even if that made sense, it doesn't really work when she's voiced by a normal ass human trying to sound like a juvenile girl. It doesn't rub me the wrong way that the character is a pretentious twat, it's the secondary text and the fact that I haven't been able to say anything more than vaguely confrontational to her about how much of a twat she is.

Apparently I want nothing more than to make a hasty exit. Plot device to take away player agency and tell them how their character feels. Excellent design.

And again, I inquire, what does this have to do with my post?

On another note, where do you meet Sirin? Can you only recruit her if you ally with the Scarlet Chorus? Just finished what I assume was Act I (captured the Hall and was teleported to the top of the Spire), haven't seen her yet.

Greetings fellow Fatebinders!

This is a place where you can tell your story as you carve a path to complete and total domination in the lands of Teratus!

We've made it easier than ever for you to share your story with our new and awesome "My Profile" tool! All you need to do is login at https://www.tyrannygame.com/ and as you play the game you will see all your stats, your story choices and other interesting bits and bobs about your progress. You can, ofc, also share this with all your friends and fellow Fatebinders!

Everybody who criticises Tyranny here should provide a link to their personal storyline first, so we can make sure they didn't pirate the game.

And I want Obsidian team to come here and tell me that they really tried to make a good game this time and they didn't just winged it just to make a couple of bucks to stay afloat,I just want to be sure.

Okay. We tried to make a good game.

And you did. :incline:

Magic seems p. banal so far. Ok variety of effects but it lacks personality.
