The game will have some sort of spellcrafting or runecrafting system, but they're not ready to talk about it yet.

The game is set in the last corner of the world that Lord Kyros has conquered - just after his final victory over the world. Then something(tm) happens that sets the plot in motion.

He decided to conquer the world because it was in chaos, bickering factions, etc, the usual Lawful Evil villain motive.

Other than the major decline in art direction, so far so good. Nice that they are copying some good parts from AoD.

That Brian Heinz old Black Isle/Interplay bloke or were that Brian Menze?

Should be Holy Terra.

Brian Menze (Lead Artist) is Black Isle/Interplay bloke.

Otoh Brian Heinz joined Obsidian very early on in their lifetime. Left for several years though.

Nice or sad? How come the almighty and single most important CRPG company in the West that has sold millions rips off some minor title?

(With all due respect for AoD, this is just snarky irony)

I'm not entirely sold on the learn by using system and by on companions combos, but the reactivity seems top notch and that alone is more than enough to have my interest.

This sounds like Obsidian's version of Dragon Age 2.

Cannot. Unsee.

Seriously though, I like some of the stuff I am reading, I dislike others.

The combos sound interesting, as I thought that there were not enough combat synergies in PoE (except for the rogue). However, the specific combo they are describing sounds downright silly.

Smaller parties is major decline in my book.

Reactivity sounds promising.

Isn't learning-by-doing supposed to encourage all sorts of degeneracy when applied to combat stats? I wonder how they're implementing that - skill points earned per hit, per total damage done, or per killing blow?

Yeah, they look very similar if you don't count the different setting and story premises, the diverse main character's background (simple peasant that become a hero vs former general of the overlord and authority figure right from the start), the focus on reactivity and branching storylines in Tyranny vs the extremely linear experience and the lack of reactions to your choices displayed in DA II, the classless system of Tyranny vs warrior, rogue and mage of Dragon Age, classic fantasy races vs "beasts", etc.

But some of the art concepts look alike, so they'll totally be the same game, right.

The game's setting is a world called Terratus.

It's like Terra but thanatos.

When men named their world they already knew it was going to be taken over by evil empire so they gave it a proper evil sounding name.

- four character party
- friendship/rivalry companion affinities, each with their own bonus
- action-oriented RTwP gameplay with ability combos and over the top combat maneuvers
- a darker, grimmer setting full of shades of grey, "not the usual high fantasy"
- developed by a portly bald man with a goatee, a pair of horn rimmed glasses, and a jolly disposition
