Feeding/hunting is probably optional. At this point, don't expect anything.
Edit: typo. Thanks Zombra .

The dev diary still didn’t explain why you would need to hunt or feed in non combat situations or what resonance has to do with it. Probably an important thing to mention in a dev diary about said thing.
Or how the hunting works, for that matter.

Their feed vision just looks like an improved Auspex effect from Bloodlines that you get for free...

Well, since Phyre is an Elder, it is quite possible it knows Auspex at some level, regardless of Clan. The description is almost a word for word copy of that of Auspex level 1 power Heightened Senses from the PnP.

But this STILL doesn't tell us how hunting works. Are there NPCs roaming the streets, ready for seduction/abduction?

That doesn't make it any better if it's all-Asian, if anything it makes it worse.
I think the real issue with the kuei jin is the obvious race war between them and the cainites. LaCroix straight up tells you that the kuei jin intend to genocide all kindred in LA. The anarchs tell you that the kuei jin were killing them off until the Camarilla restored a tense peace.

The entire Ravnos clan backstory is about a race war between the kindred and kuei jin, which escalated to the point where a methesulah needed to get involved, the technocracy had to intervene and a nuclear strike was deployed and finally kindred were genocided in South Asia.

That's literally raep! Shaking rn.

It's 2024, feeding requires enthusiastic consent that can be recalled at any time, bigot.
Funnily enough, it is V5 that added a lot of interesting approaches to hunting, and made them have impact on your stats. Including the rapey redator types.

Eh, in that regard, it's just busybodies being uncomfortable with the 'yellow peril' trope (although they unsurprisingly take no issue with it in the cyberpunk genre). That on top of various stereotypes being employed, with no malicious intent, that aim to capture the otherness of the kuei jin and their very own nightly society as it were. Being offended by that is as stupid as being offended by Big Trouble in Little China imho.

The problem is that Kindred of the East is fucking dumb and always was.

Really, it can't be stated enough just how stupid some of the WoD products are. The worst offenders being Changeling and the Fera.

I like it. It's silly, but cohesive. And it serves as a good counterpart to vamps in terms of dark urban fantasy mixed with wuxia style stuff.

Similarly, I also quite like the Dark Kingdom of Jade in Wraith.
The whole thing is the Chinese equivalent of some clueless weeaboos going on about muh 1000x folded steel katana and honourabu samurai, really.

I'm not saying that's bad, but even to someone who loves Godfrey Ho it gets tiresome.

There's some truly insane kuei jin factions like the court of entire female vampires. All male vampires under their rule either get sex changed or treated like dirt. Unlike cainites, they have no taboo with birthing dhampirs and is in fact a requirement in their society.

Stuff like this makes WOD more interesting.

It is not a taboo, Cainites cannot procreate. Unless you mean creating thinbloods? But these are distinct from the common concept of dhampir.

Also, I thought the Kuei-Jin do not propagate by themselves? The process of new Kuei-Jin arising appears to be spontaneous, and the recently returned need not be victims of current Kuei-Jin?

Thin blooded cainites can reproduce. They're still partially fertile because their vitae is weak. A dhampir is very similar to a revenant, they naturally convert a small amount of their blood into vitae everyday, can learn disciplines up to a single dot but do not suffer from the inbreeding flaws revenants suffer.

Kuei Jin can sire semi mortal children if they ingest enough life force. It temporarily restores their fertility.

As if people here didn't make fun of Carna and her all-female witch sub-faction when V5 first got released. You would have the usual suspects here cry "woke!!!!!".

I always associated the Kuei-Jin with all those eastern religions/ new age movement bullshit. I look at their removal as addition by subtraction.

Because it is. Nu-WoD is garbo.
Old-WoD is also garbo but of a different flavor.

Carna's feminist subfaction never made any sense. V5 says she created it to fight "the hardcoded misogyny of the Tremere", which is utter madness given that the Inner Circle has always included women. In fact, their most politically active Inner Councillor who also helped found the Camarilla was a woman called Meerlinda. Even if we ignore all that, the issue still persists that Carna was the one to break the Tremere blood bond. A mere 8th generation vampire with some fucking magical McGuffin that appeared out of thin air managed to undo the blood sorcery of the clan's founders. That's some girlboss tier bullshit. It is something should've been only achievable by a much older and powerful character. Since the writers are already bringing him back from torpor, it would've made perfect sense for Ur-Shulgi to do it as punishment for the curse the Tremere put on the Assamite.

Not to mention all the Antitribu suddenly and mysteriously went up in flames but Carna gets to do her thing no problem.
