The VtM IP is mutable to individual tables/games. You can freely retcon entire books to better suit the story you want to tell. It's less of an IP and more of a pre-made structure you can latch onto and modify to suit your needs. Like the betty crocker of vampire storytelling.

This is why the tone, atmosphere, edge, humor, and countless other details are unique to individual GMs or game devs. VtM: Redemption feels totally different from VtM: Bloodlines. Night Road feels totally different from Parliament of Knives. Shadows of New York feels totally different from Swansong.

Example:
There's a "rule" that you can't fleshcraft Nosferatu. Well, in Parliament of Knives you can.
A "rule" where generation is fixed and can only be lowered by rituals or Amaranth. Well, in Redemption it's tied to age/xp.
A "rule" where powering up should take time and effort. Well, in Bloodlines it's overnight (literally).

What matters, ultimately, is how fun you can make your story, the premise, the mechanics, the setting, and the play, be. The issue with Bloodlines 2 isn't the "VtM" part, but the "Bloodlines" part. It should've been called VtM: Bloodtrade, or something.

Monsieur, dans la matière de sex, je suis un spécialiste....

By the way, do we know where the new game is set? It's still Seattle?

There's actually some interesting territory to be explored here if diablerie is in the game, and your victim ends up trying to overpower you mentally (or whatver the soul version is called). I just hope it's not handled like Keanu Reeves' character in CP2077.

One of the screenshots they released still has a Seattle street sign. And the bar picture has a Christmas tree, so it's still Christmas time just like in original version.
Funny thing, now I see that - new screenshots have similar locations as leaked gameplay. Meaby, whoever is making this game, they just sew material dropped by HS? I don't say there is no story changes, they definitely removed this character from the banner, but they could use maps, model and assets from previus incarnation.

Just look at the Steam page.

Ok, I see.

I've said before art assets would be the only thing reused, largely because it seems art assets are the only thing that was actually made and not just drafted.

I’m curious how much of them keeping Seattle at Christmas is from pragmatism of reusing the assets or because of the earlier marketing of the game taking place in that locale.

Presumably TCR has been at it for what about two years? That’s a lot of progress in that period for Paradox to be saying the game may be out for the holidays if they started from scratch, especially after the Hardsuit clusterfuck. I think it’s fairly reasonable to assume they used many of the assets from the old build. I can say for certain that a lot of work was done on the major hubs and many of the places you visit for sidequest by the summer of 2018.

I have not been there, but for my nose HS left a pile of not-so-finished Open World, many models and tons of messy code. First thing, that new company did, was checking all existing material and dropping to win most of that. Then they took raw material and started recording this again.

I think there was similar situation with writing. 500 of variant dialogues for this same minor NPC, recorded sessions without remaining script and some notes from Mitsoda. In that situation best thing to do is take Mitsoda story structure and remade this considering existing material.

Well, even if they couldn't use the assets or the plotline there's still the character study for Seattle as a city. If they chose to, say, move the setting to New York, they'd have to re-conceptualize the fundamentals of their setting bringing the pipeline backwards a semester or maybe even a year.

TCR announced their original IP (narrative horror game) and I'm paying attention to what people are/aren't saying. SJ Longthorne, the writer from Hogwarts Legacy, confirms she's not on it https://twitter.com/sarahlongthorne/status/1667976788314652674

Congrats SWTD team!! Everybody else, check it out

I wasn’t on this personally but so proud of those who were! They’ve done an incredible job

Arone Le Bray the Bioware guy isn't taking a victory lap either, though of course it was without a doubt he'd be the principal writer on whatever wasn't Pure Pinchbeck. Frances Wakefield-Harrey the contractor hasn't been on twitter since late 2022, though it's also likely she's with the others as well.

They're stating pretty confidently that this is their next game and the release date is sometime in early 2024. Bloodlines 2 releasing shortly after would be pretty funny.

So you were dead wrong about TCR being the dev developing bloodlines.
