Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Battlesector is featured in a Fanatical bundle for as low as 2.50 Euro.
Note that some of the DLC are more expensive when taken in the bundle than separately, and most of them have steeper discounts during any sale.

Yo, what up? Dropping in to mention that there is actually plenty of quality fan-made SP content for the game. You can find it through the main menu and play it through the Custom Campaign option. I am currently playing a custom campaign called Heretic and it is p. rad. There many other campaigns you can download and play.

the very picture of "almost there". many models and animations, all too tiny (and slow, holy hell so slow) to be noticed. tons of troops, on very anonymous maps which play all the same since every fight is just a skirmish. many options, but you have to grind too hard for them. it's infuriating when you're so close to greatness and miss it, it's worse than a genuinely bad game.

Surprised to see the game is pretty highly rated on Steam, I remember abandoning it pretty quickly after realizing its pretty repetitive nature.

Did they make some fundamental changes so it’s now fun?

New patch with free content for the Imperial Guard:

We are thrilled to announce that a new free major update for Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is available from today for everyone who owns the game, introducing 2 new playable units, a signficant faction refresh for the Sisters of Battle and a new visual face for Planetary Supremacy.

New forces for the Astra Militarum

Today's update will bring new units for the Astra Militarum faction: Leman Russ with Battlecannon and
Cadian Sergeant.

Cadian Sergeant

Due to their role as both leaders and instructors, sergeants in the Astra Militarum are expected to lead from the front, driving their troops to feats of valour and glory. A good sergeant can keep a squad together even under the most dire of circumstances, using their command skills and the earned trust of their troops to quell fear and rally shaken guardsmen under their command.

Leman Russ Battle Tank

The Battle cannon is a larger and heavier version of the autocannon, its size restricting its use to vehicles only. It is the primary weapon of the Leman Russ Battle Tank. It is a formidable weapon whose shells can deal significant damage from a long distance against both vehicle and infantry targets. The sheer power of this weapon makes it an excellent addition to the Astra Militarum's arsenal.

How does this compare to similar games e.g. Field of Glory 2 in terms of:

A.I
Maps
Ruleset
Challenge

The two aren't really similar at all outside of being on squares. There's way, way more mobility in Battlesector + almost everything is ranged combat + having skills and other assorted auxiliary tools. I don't recall terrain being overly important in Battlesector but I might be forgetting things; in FoG it obviously plays a big role for a lot of units. FoG puts infinitely more importance on positioning to the point you really are "battling" even if you're not technically engaged with the enemy yet. I don't really recall positioning being too big a deal in Battlesector, it was more about allocating firepower as efficiently as possible.

They are too different to compare directly. Both challenge me in their own way, surprisingly enough. At least the campaign for Battlesector, I haven't played the Planetary Supremacy mode (that recently got a fresh coat of paint), so I have no idea about that. There's an AI mod for FoG2, so I doubt you'll find the AI lacking. Having said that, however, both are PvP games at heart and work the best in that context.
