Still no price drop for pre-orders? I have to say it's the first time I am seeing something like this.
Strange, I was able to grab a really good deal on Vermintide 1&2 back when those were pre-orders. Hasn't popped up anywhere but Steam/Windows Store either which is weird because GreenManGaming is promoting it on twitter but not selling it.

If others want to pay full price for the privilege of being bug testers thats fine with me but yeah that is unusual.

Otherwise on topic of tryhards for these kind of games… I always play on legendary (very hard too easy for me but cata too hard so i reckon that puts me in the top 10-15% of people) and i’d say my success rate is around 25% at best and more often then not people tend to be salty af.
Biggest issue i find at this tier is everyone think they are the best and tunnel vision on their way of playing, most wipes being caused by poor team work or impatience. Theres also the odd twat who over obsesses about stats and does everything they can to get the most kills just so they can point it out in the event of a wipe, those are the players i loathe the most.

I don’t expect darktide to be any different on this front alas.

To me it is less about being a tryhard and more about having a challenge, rather than steamrolling everything.

Preorders get a portrait frame and a keychain for your gun instead.
I think I'd prefer a discount.
The main draw to pre-order seems to be the ability to play a bit early. Technically the progress will be kept, but it can't be guaranteed, so I'd rather wait for the discount, too, and play it without having to grind early gear twice in case progress will be wiped after all.

Being real, I don't think we will ever be able to confirm 100% that progress will stay from POB (pre-order beta) to launch. That said, we want to keep it! And we're pretty sure that any issues that arise that mean we have to wipe will happen pretty quickly So if you're concerned, take it easy for the first few days. Every day that goes without a wipe reduces the chance of their being one quite significantly. IDK if that makes sense. It does to me, but then I wrote it.

*Responding to how do we know that you won't wipe post-launch if you can't guarantee it now?*
It's the nature of things, hard to explain. We of course test and play and test and play every day, but until you put an environment like our service out to the public, you don't get the rigorous testing and data needed, but very very very very quickly when we put the service live on Nov 17 we will see volumes of data and info coming in like we've never seen before and it will very quickly show us what's right, and what's wrong. In those 13 days to launch, we'll have confidence in what's going on in the service. It's hard to explain, but we're certain that come the 30th, service will be as expected. Hiccups will come early in that 13 day window. It's a big part of why we're putting the beta out before official launch.

So the Psyker is literally Sienna (no surprise there), but with cooler-looking powers.

I don't likу that they settled to template characters instead of actual characters, with theirown stories etc. That made Vermintide famous

I, on the other hand, do understand why they did that. With the ability to customize your character there ought to be greater variability in looks, provided there will be enough cosmetics (and I do really hope most of them will be available through grinding the in-game currency, rather than paid DLCs). I also think that people like to upsell the pre-made characters from Vermintide compared to Darktide ones.

If anything I would argue that not having enough options in character creation is why characters in Darktide might seem more repetitive or boring: because if you can take 4 Psykers on a mission, all of which will have the same voice, it won't look as good as having 1 of each class (which begs the question whether we will be able to lock classes to 1 of each before starting a mission/search).

But that in itself has little to do with the "actual characters, with their own stories". For all intents and purposes each class in Darktide has its own story and character (with some variability) and I doubt I will be missing the Vermintide ones. I don't find them to be THAT good. Or the reason why Vermintide became popular. To me this is down to gameplay, which stems from Left 4 Dead and due to heavy melee focus and build customization.

New gameplay in this nerd’s vid:

Very optimistic about the game after seeing this. Lore accurate
bolter
too. Makes me wonder why they didn’t make the characters whites only if they’re gonna lore fag (just kidding we all know why).

What being whites has to do with lore accuracy? Aren't characters supposed to be player-made random dudes?

It’s not really talked about but old head 40k lore says the imperium of man is virtually all whiteys because nonwhites are never discussed. Even the salamanders, who have black (not brown, actually black) skin were white dudes who made themselves black.

Cover art for Darktide has black psyker and Asian zealot.

I am aware and I do find that cringe. Mainly because the guardsman has his face covered. This is cool for the actual gameplay, but doesn't make as much sense for a cover art. But it is obvious what the idea was, in the current political climate.

I will add that I’m totally out of the loop on any of the new lore so I’m sure the imperium has a myriad of new ethnicities by now.

A sci-fi setting made in the 80s by British liberal kids did not have a "Whites Only" rule, what a completely asinine statement.

Another day 1 gamepass fodder

If this were just a L4D clone I would've played it on GamePass but levels and loot makes this a buy because I don't want to get locked into their ecosystem forever. Also zero connectivity with Steam players.

And yet I read dozens of Codexes and Black Library novels and the number of non-white characters I recall could be counted on the fingers of one hand - unsurprisingly pretty much all of those come from vidya and books released relatively recently. I always took it for granted that there were other races in 40K (after all the original Rough Rider models were mongols/AZNs, White Scars were mongols too etc), but in general they were absent from the presentation of the setting - I guess this was because GW knew who their audience is.

Funnily enough I used to put AZNs and niggas into my Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader games every now and then and players would often tell me stuff like "wait, so there is like a Chinese dude here?" It would seem to me that it was generally expected that everyone is white in 40K until very recently.

Of course now we get kangz all over the place coz its the current year.

Okay, but they obviously weren't if you would just read the sentence you wrote before this one.
Do I really need to remind people that Big E, the closest thing to a protagonist for the setting, is some dusky-skinned Anatolian boy? Maybe drop a list of all the Oriental themed armies? Why exactly are we acting retarded here?

Headcanon isn't an argument.

I have no dog in this race but I like every opportunity I get to talk about DAWN OF WAR which was my first contact with 40k things.
Why does it matter? Well it's fairly old and may slightly pre-date the current year craze but it features Inquisitor Toth (a Hungarian name?) who seems ostensibly black.
Probably not a lore character though. OC donot steel, perhaps someone else knows more about this?

Catachans immediately came to mind.

But they didn’t start out inclusive either.

My first thought is that the first black catachans or “pocs” in 40k like the above mentioned Toth was more based on the rule of cool then anything else, which was the reason for including anything in 40k as it should be.
Whereas now it feels more a conscious decision for the sake of representation and to reflect a “modern audience”.

Yet paradoxically 40k should be pretty diverse to the point having a planet for every conceivable race and ethnicity should be fine, so i guess it might just be current year distorting my perception.
Ultimately the commissar won’t care what race or gender you are when he orders you to charge and get ripped apart by a carnifex, 40k has always been pleasantly egalitarian like that.

Catachans are really obviously based on the US troops who fought in Vietnam, so some of them being black isn't a surprise. There are lots of armies in 40K that are based on real ones.
