Their voidships are cool too.
Recently I've read a novel on DA marines-inside-marines (War of Secrets or how is it, forgot the name, written by Tau novelist), it's the most grimdark thing I've ever read in WH40k universe (an epitomy to Lion's adage "service is its own reward"). Shame there wasn't a continuation, it was an entertaining read (especially with regards to "psychically cloning the emperor" and related, ahem, phenomena)

So what's the issue here? Can't be engine, because Unity can do all sorts of styles. Is it the coloring? The lighting? Does it lack detail or more complex textures? One thing for sure is the lack of unique assets. Tilesets are all the same, over the top use of that one Aquila ...

I'm suspecting that no one at owlcat know how to to lighting competently, lot of character end up being fucked up by atrocious contrast and lighting in their previous game, and I'm speaking about both the IG model and the portraits.

New concept art for Necrons.

How the fuck would an Orc companion even work that wouldn't break every bit of lore in existence?
"Companion" no.
Acquaintance who you're paying to kill anything that's not you, yes.

It is not unheard of for some Imperial Commanders to hire Ork mercenaries. However, this is generally frowned upon and such arrangements are purely contractual.

Muh bloodaxes

Muh lore doesn't exist because it's cool to have mercenary Orks

Utter tripe
Negro, the lore basically is: the Imperium is so huge, so decentralised and so diverse that you will always find a planet where X can be a thing, and sanctioned by the local Cardinal/Administratum/Inquisitor/Arbites* too!

*pending investigation and a possible Exterminatus mere 500 years later.

I just don't see how a fungus is going to work with a human being, it goes against everything Orks stand for

Bloodaxes just seem like a convenient excuse

More like "there are Commanders desparate/stupid enough to hire orks to fight for him. Whether or not he gets betrayed and his shit stolen or killed by the Inquisition afterwards is another matter entirely."

Despite common belief, orks are not absolute retards and do have some idea of how economy and trade work.
They also know that if they kill human's enemies and then shoot them in the back when they are weak after the battle they will have double the loot. Provided the human doesn't keep offering them more loot and enemies to kill, that is.

Mate, Bloodaxes being mercs are literally part of the fluff. Plugging your fingers in your ears and going "bla bla bla doesn't exist" doesn't change that.
Bloodaxes being mercs doesn't mean they can be hired as such by an "imperial commander", unless you count people like Rogue Traders as such.

This only works on the fringes of imperial space or the fringes of imperial institutions. Both aspects apply to this specific game, so hiring Orcs is at least potentially viable (though I'd still argue it's impossible for any RT who's solidly on the loyalist side of things).

But hiring them as a company is one thing. Babysitting one of them as a companion is another.

Freebootaz guys. Having a Flash Git for a companion would've been very cool. No need to babysit them either, they're nobs and thus highly intelligent. Don't forget, Orks do not only get bigger, they also get more intelligent. Warbosses have genius level iq by human standards even.

If life experience has taught me anything, it's that just because someone has a high IQ doesn't mean they can't be a complete fucktard.

Look at everybody talking 'bout Ork companions when Kroot companions are objectively superior.

I mean, the Kroot got ridable dinosaurs.

Yeah but can you ride them? No? Case closed.

You can ride them, it's the not getting eaten part that's challenging.

Also, IIRC, the knarloc is just a regular Kroot in an evolutionary dead-end. So it's somebody's distant cousin.

It's not about how cool or intelligent they are, it's about the fact that everything about Orks is fundamentally alien to a human frame of reference

I just can't see any way that an Ork could possibly work with humans in any meaningful sense

It's since the first edition of Warhammer 40k (35 years ago) that some group of orks are willing to fight for humans after payment.
