Unarmed is great if you build it correctly. I have a 10 strength melee tank whose sole job it is to run up to things and punch them repeatedly. I can't wait to get some of the higher damage unarmed weapons, because Im criting like mad with this guy with just gloves on.

Does strength actually affect unarmed damage? I'm seeing a lot of disconnect between skills and attributes.

Strength determines base melee damage, starting constitution, constitution gain per level, and carry weight. - From the Wasteland 2 wiki

FINALLY home and begun playing. I like everything I see and can forgive a lot of the stuff that is lacking (like no traits/perks), but combat is really weird with the complete lack of options. I will probably just toy around with it for now and put together my final(tm) party after the first patch.

Did they ever say why perks weren't included? I know it's more of a Fallout thing but it would have added a bit more flavor.

sea said they hadn't the resources to put them in before release, but that they were possible in a later content patch.

Have to say the game was a bit meh, but entering Ranger Citadel was awesome.
I am a bit worried my stats are total shit, because i don't know what the math exactly is.

I miss Hubs, some actual settlements with lots of NPCs to talk to. Hope to find some in California. So far there were only some kind of combat maps with an NPC here and there (though i don't know Highpool, chose Ag Center).

Bottom Line: if more non-combat content is coming this game will get awesome.

Combat is very straightforward in the first areas. I'd say it starts getting more involved and complex from Prison onwards, even without an aimed/special shots kind of system.

And yeah, we've talked about traits, perks, called shot type systems. No time to implement a full set that is also well-designed and balanced.

P.S. Is W2 forum down or what, it wont open for me since release...
Yeah ton of traffic. Thankfully the different parts are on different servers so it doesn't affect Ranger Center or Torment, but WL2 forums have been down quite often :(

That's (in a way) good news! Means the game is getting played and talked about.

I'm really enjoying it, almost 30 hours in it so far.

I feel calmer now knowing that revolvers actually can jam, and all along I was thinking something that wasn't true.

Honey Badgers man, they are no joke.

It's among the least worst games, for sure, so at least that means I'll put good hours into it, but really gonna have to lower the bar to call it good (my bar might be too high though).

Could go into long lists of details but overall, just too gamey, too...artificial. It's a game made to make you feel like you're playing a game from start to finish, total lack of any immersion whatsoever, for me at least. Kinda sad when they clearly spent time and effort into writing, but it's so stupid at worst and goofy at best, that I just can't get into it. Guess it's a matter of style and some people really get into it, I just can't.

And what the fuck were they thinking with the camera? It's like they designed the entire thing JUST to make the worst possible camera height and angle possible!

Ah, you are THAT kind of gamer. You want IMMERSUN! You want to be in the game, you want to lose yourself in it. :D Seriously I never understood this argument. There are really people who are so immersed in a game that they don't know that they just play a game? :hahano: Pfff, of course it is gamey, it is a game. The writing is decent (for a non-native player like myself, even good), I wouldn't immerse myself in it more, even if it was written by Hitckock.

"combat is really weird with the complete lack of options."

Define 'lack of options'. You have head shots, crouching, burst, ambush, amongst other options. Not too surprising since it is a gun focused combat system. More than most games for sure.

Have to agree about weapon jamming; it happens a bit too often. If it happens one time in a fight that should be more than enough, especially because it really is a dead-sentence most of the time for me.

Not be in the game or lose myself in it, but yes I want it to try and make some kind of sense, not having to deal with stupid problems everywhere, just because there needs to be a problem there because: quest!

Writing is decent, but the subject of the writing are stupid. Quest lines are dumb as shit and unbelievable, most NPCs are completely morons. Rail Nomad camp is one of the best example of that. All I want to do in there is kill everyone because they're all so fucking stupid. Same with every quest line so far.

I call it immersion, but just gimme believable plot lines instead of looney tunes crazy shit and I'll be just peachy :)

Meh, tastes may differ for everybody. I think the quests and dialogues serve the game right. We are talking about a game which has monster rabbits, energy weapons (although the game is based on the '80s) and man eating plants afterall. :D

Go play DOS and be Dual Chosen Ones or PE and be the All Special One or NWN2 and have a sword stuck up your ass since it is apparant you already have soemthing stuck up your ass so it might as well be a sword.

\My only real beef with the writing is because of the codewords makes the PC feel like theya re being 'talked to' not in an actual conversation.

That's kinda what I said...question of style, just doesn't suit me, hence why it's one of the least worst for me, because with a style that suits me, it'd be in the "not bad" category. (which, as a note, is better than least worst).

Also as a note, 50+ hours logged with it gotta mean something...if not for style, then at least game mechanics.
