Oh wow. I thought this Harold rape thing was more of a joke/exaggeration, but alas, it totally wasn't. Look! They even have druids! Muahahaha. Morbid curiosity (clicking this thread) paid off once again.

Druids aka hippies aren't really that impossible in newer ages but this is Beth and this is dumb shit.

It is that bad in a nuked post-apoc setting, you're just retarded. Have fun playing your krazy mish-mash games for kids though.

I really do think Fallout 3 is a three times vomited piece of dehydrated shit so you tell that to Clockwork Knight. I was just trying to figure out where would his words fit.

Reading this thread that's exactly what struck me - greatest tragedy of Fallout 3 (as a stand-alone game unrelated to other Fallouts that is) is it's setting. It's like they designed a fantasy game, then Inconvenience Fairy appeared, waved it's magic cock and flipped all art in the game into sci-fi. The idiotic Bobbleheads, the magical clothing raising your stats, most of enemies, locations and quests - everything would work PERFECTLY if only it was a fantasy game. Would anyone complain about a talking tree with druids in a fantasy setting? Would anyone be bothered by a cult of blood-drinking people? Shit like that is bread and butter of fantasylands.

And Bethesda really did some things well in Fallout 3. The world is pretty damn big, there are dialogue stat-checks(hamhanded, but always), system is good (Because it's stolen) and most of the quests are quite original. If it was another Elder Scrolls game, it could really be something decent.

As it is now it's, well, Oblivion with guns.

Pretty fucking ironic.

^@EV, Thing is even when they stole the system they managed to fuck it up. Most stats are highly irrelevant, tag skills are irreleveant, the skill % cap at 100 fucks it all up (you can max them all with a little care before you hit the level cap), traits are no more and perks are mostly +5% to this skill and 5% to that. So yeah, you steal a good system (although it needed some balancing imo) and strip away all the posibilities it gave.

I agree with the comments about the fantasy-ishness.
Who woulda thunk it, on the other hand, the guys were doing mostly fantasy to date and we all know they aren't the best in the creativity department.

The Fallout setting is neither fantasy nor sci-fi. It's post apocalyptic. Bethesda managed to cram in all kinds of shit from generic D&D to aliens and samurai except any actual PA stuff. Combine that with retarded writing and what you get is a facepalm carnival of idiots.

Part 16 – No Country For Old Men

Now that the Harold mission is out of the way, we’re gonna continue doing some main quest stuff.

If you recall, at the end of Part 14, Daddy Neeson and his crew were about to head back to their old lab. But, before they could do that, he gave us a mission:
588.jpg

i3.jpg
What the hell? Didn’t you just visit this place just a couple days ago? We even found your journals in there.

i3.jpg
How the hell were you able to get around all the Super Mutants back then?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Whatever. Let’s just do this and get it over with.

589.jpg

This is the inside of the lab. We find a lot of really boring rooms and corridors here.

590.jpg

Inside, we find this room with an operating table. I think this is supposed to be the room that we were born in.

i3.jpg
This is also the room where mommy died.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

591.jpg

We also meet about a half dozen of these super mutants that Daddy was so scared of.

After killing all the orcs inside the building, we head back outside and inform Daddy Neeson of our progress.
592.jpg

Once we're inside, we talk to him again:
593.jpg

Just in case you forgot about it since the beginning of the game, he repeats it for you.

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
Revelation 21:6. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life, freely.

i3.jpg
I’m sure the numbers 21:6 won’t be involved in some contrived puzzle later on... Clearly.

594.jpg

FACT: That line from the Bible is actually referring to Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is so amazing that even the Bible has verses that refer to it.

i3.jpg
:sigh:

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Anyway, what menial, boring task do you have for me to do now?

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
Project Purity was abandoned shortly after you were born. Things have deteriorated here since then, and there’s been some flooding.

595.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Ugh. This sounds boring. Can’t you get somebody else to do this?

596.jpg

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
The automatic doors sealed when the flooding occurred, so you’ll have to use the access tunnels to reach the pumps.

i3.jpg
So, in other words, the game is artificially lengthening the game by forcing us to take the long route?

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
Correct.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Let’s just get this over with. It’s not like we have any choice in the matter...

597.jpg

So, we head through the basement and follow the corridors until we finally find the power switch.

598.jpg

After completing this task, Daddy Neeson tells us (via intercom) to head back to the lab.

599.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Umm...Aren’t I a little old for that talk?

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
I’m not talking about that. Anyway, I’ve been... hearing things. Things that’ve happened out there.

600.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

i3.jpg
Yes, we did have something to do with it. Destroying Megaton was pretty fun.

601.jpg

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
What I did might’ve been wrong, but can’t even compare to such a thing.

602.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

603.jpg

604.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Really? That was it? I’m not even getting punished?

i3.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Also, if you care so much about Megaton, why didn’t you just disarm the bomb yourself? We’ve been told that you’ve been to the city at least twice. Why didn’t you just disarm it then?

i3.jpg
Yeah. He’s supposed to be a big time scientist, so he should’ve been [Intelligent] enough to figure out how to do it. It’s not even like it took us a lot of time to do it.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
You’re just as much to blame as we are...

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
We’ll talk about this later. Right now, we have work to do.

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
The flooding shorted out some of the fuse boxes downstairs, including one that controls some of the automatic doors.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Ugh. Is this mean that we're gonna get yet another menial, boring mission that we can’t reject?

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
Exactly. Take these fuses and head over to the fuse box in the basement.

605.jpg

606.jpg

So, we head down to the basement yet again and find the fuse box.

607.jpg

After we fix the fuse boxes, daddy tells us to head over the computer room and boot up the machines there.

608.jpg

Now that the flooding has stopped and the fuses have been replaced, we can power on the servers.

609.jpg

This is what the servers look like after they’ve been turned on.

We then head over to the intercom to talk to daddy and get the next super exciting task he needs us to do:
610.jpg

i3.jpg
Dude, this is getting pretty tedious.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Agreed.

611.jpg

Here’s the entrance to the pipes that we need to access.

Here’s the valve that we have to open:
612.jpg

Conveniently, this area of the tunnels seems to be damaged and we can see outside from here.

613.jpg

After a few seconds, we can see a helicopter approach the lab.

i3.jpg
What a surprise!! We’re so fortunate that there just happened to be an opening in the tunnels giving us a good view of the chopper.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Anyway, who are these guys?

614.jpg

We can hear daddy’s voice.

615.jpg

And lock the door, she did.

616.jpg

Unfortunately, by locking the door, Dr. Li also locked the door that we used to get here.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
So, does this mean that we can’t get back into the lab?

i3.jpg
Not exactly. It just means that we have to take the long way instead.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
This is getting pretty tedious...

617.jpg

Therefore, we have to take the long way back to the lab, which takes us through these tunnels.

618.jpg

On the way back, we encounter a couple of Enclave Soldiers who attack us on sight.

619.jpg

We finally get back to the lab, and we find this guy talking to daddy.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
What was the point of locking the doors if the Enclave dudes were able to get in anyway?

i3.jpg
The only purpose locking the doors seem to serve was to force us to take the long route.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
:(

620.jpg

Daddy doesn’t seem to want to hand over the project material to the Enclave dudes.

621.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Hey, maybe these guys are actually good guys. Maybe they’ll help us to get this facility running again!

622.jpg

Daddy Neeson informs the Enclave dude that this research project is still in the research phase.

623.jpg

This makes Enclave dude man, and he shoots the other random scientist chick in the room.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Umm...who the hell was that chick who just got killed?

i3.jpg
I have no idea. I think she was just a generic scientist whose sole purpose in this game was to get herself shot.

624.jpg

Anyway, that burst of violence makes daddy much more complacent.

625.jpg

LiamNeesonSmall.jpg
Very well. Just give me a few moments to bring the system online.

626.jpg

627.jpg

After a few more seconds, we witness a sudden explosion inside the chamber.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
EXPLOSION!!

628.jpg

Smoke fills the room as both of these two guys are coughing and seem to be feeling sick.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Daddy?! What’s wrong?

629.jpg

630.jpg

HOLY SHIT!! Liam Neeson is Dead!!!!!!!

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
OMG, They killed Daddy!!

i3.jpg
THOSE BASTARDS!!

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

631.jpg

FACT: This is like the saddest and most emotional moment evar in any game evar.
FACT #2: It’s even more tragic and tear-inducing than when Aeris died.
FACT #3: I <s>laughed</s> cried for at least like 5 minutes after this super tragic scene.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

632.jpg

i3.jpg
No fucking kidding.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
WTF just happened?

633.jpg

I found it funny that she didn’t even mention or grieve at all for the other scientist chick that died in there with daddy.

634.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
What about daddy?

635.jpg

DoctorLiSmall.jpg
Anyway, we have to get out of here. They’ll be coming for us next. We’ve got to evacuate now!

636.jpg

End of Part 16.

This was a very emotionally exhausting episode. It's gonna take me a while to recover...

Ya know, I seriously get the impression the onliest reason Daddy Neeson had a kid was because he missed not having a graduate student to push around. Seriously, could they come up with any more lame-ass go-fer tasks for you to do? "Hey kid, fetch me a cup of coffee --- oh, and mind the mutated orcs in the break room!"

Funny thing is, if you wander around the Jefferson Memorial basement prior to this sequence, and try to interact with the fuse box, a pop-up screen tells you: "You cannot use this now" or some such shite. Yay for artificial limits! My character can defuse a 200 yr-old nuclear weapon first thing out of the Vault, but he can't plug in a fucking fuse???? (Speaking of which, Explosives Skill needed to defuse nuke: 25. Explosives Skill needed to defuse baby carriage bomb: 60. See a disconnect there?)

FACT 2: Everybody in that oh-so-tragic death scene will be alive and kicking once you reach the Enclave base. (Even that lab assistant chick --- she goes over to the other side). Everybody but Daddy Neeson, that is. I guess Daddy Neeson didn't take the Rad Resistance perk like everybody else...

The way doctor Li expresses her (his?) grief and surprise amazes me.

It's the SPECIAL system in name only. As you point out, stats have little to no value. There are no skill checks. Either you can / can't do something. Hacking / Lockpicking skills are merely cut-off points for mini-games. You can hack somebody down with three strikes from a sword with an Melee Weapons skill of 10 just as well as at 100. VATS is a slo-mo God Mode. All the negative trade-offs in perks have been removed.

There is very little gameplay in "Fallout 3". (Which, admittedly, might actually have worked if there was a decent story / dialogue / NPC interaction to keep you interested. But there ain't. Not even close). It fails as a RPG and as a FPS. Quite an accomplishment.

It's the "Oblivion" hiking simulator with guns. Full of choices, and no consequences. Just the way 12-yr-old AADD consoletards wanted it.

Like Fallout was high literature before

As a game, it's okay. It doesn't stimulate my enormous <s>prostate</s> brain, but if I wanted that, I wouldn't be playing a game.

You can pretend the previous games were 100% serious, if that makes you feel better.

I have to agree that many people who defend Fallout 1&2 make it sounds like it's some thing for highly intelligent people and whatnot. It's simply not stupid or trying too hard to be funny, unlike this installement in Fallout franchise.

Fallout 1 was like a very hard intelligence test that only a man with einstein-level IQ could complete compared to this piece of shit that only retards enjoy - is it a coincidence?

Compared - maybe. But as different games - not really. Same thing with PST, it's very good and is kind of intelligent but again, not quantum physics as some wish to call it.

This is kinda a sequel. It even has "Fallout" written before 3 for some reason. Though Fallout's setting was a post-apocalyptic world, not a fantasy for children.

Technically it's a high-point in Fallout franchise with most copies sold, uber ratings everywhere and praise from thousand of fucktards. Completely different company making game/whatever isn't a true sequel to me - especially when they obviously have no interest in first games.

Though Fallout's setting was a post-apocalyptic world,

GRIMDARK

I love the setting, the gameplay and all, but it's pulpy (which is good, as that was the intention). And as a game, it wasn't hard at all - I died 3 times at most, and that's due to freak 300 damage critical hits.

The story/setting/gameplay wasn't hard too, my little brother and cousins (I even got my CD back, god knows how) didn't have any problems understanding it.

I have to agree that many people who defend Fallout 1&2 make it sounds like it's some thing for highly intelligent people and whatnot. It's simply not stupid or trying too hard to be funny, unlike this installement in Fallout franchise.

I agree 100% with that. Still, it's silly when

Bethesda: "blah blah same shit blah blah his name's Bob!"

but enough, I don't want to derail the thread <s>any more</s>

If you can't see a difference between Master and a very lame ripoff that is Eden you're pretty retarded. There is nothing to oversimplify - Brother None posted dialogues and reasoning related to him in this very thread. You can take a look at them for the sake of education and then compare to the same things related to Master - it certainly didn't take 3 short sentences to made him go from having a strong opinion to "ah well ok I see your point total stranger, I'll kill myself lulz"

No because they're the same thing

Ha, I knew it would soundlike that. But no Codex, you are the butthurts. Van Buren's death was tough for everyone, but this is just sad. It won't bring him back, stop hurting yourself.
