Why are people mad about this again? Look, I hate the idea of streamers/influencers and their impact on the industry, but at this point, it's just basic marketing. Like giving keys to 'tubers and journos.

I think TW: Warhammer III got reviewbombed for this recently. Which is hilarious, but I don't really get the reason.

...if it's as simple as just hating streamers, then sure, I can understand that.

Basic marketing: This product is the best! BUY NOW!
Shitty e-celeb mutual fellatio marketing: Having someone record themselves playing a game weeks/months before anyone else is allowed to play it.

This is like saying that watching someone read a book is good marketing for a book.

And no, they aren't doing real reviews. An hour of someone just playing a game is not a review.

I want no part in this and will pirate every game that does it.

I will never understand the appeal of these streaming personalities. If the idea is supposed to somewhat replicate the experience of watching your friend play games (which I hate doing anyway), why are these people almost always really uninteresting to listen and watch? How do these people attract an audience?

I can't make it one minute into that video without getting annoyed.

They're not funny or creative enough to make jokes on the spot without resorting to zoomer meme shit, they're not well-versed enough in the game enough to say anything interesting about it, and watching someone else play a game, especially where the point is to give you agency and freedom, is just really boring.

All right, I can respect that. I don't think it's going away as long as streaming is a thing, if anything it's probably just going to get worse.

Expecting a business, whose primary goal is to make money, to not make the best use of their marketing dollars is somewhat futile imo, but who knows.

You laugh, but the freeway headed into my hometown has a billboard for a car dealership: it has nothing on it but the dealership's logo and the face of a popular NFL quarterback. I always shake my head in disappointment but it's stayed up all these years so I assume that tactic works.

Lowest common denominator marketing tactics aside, I trust Mr Colantonio to deliver something that is at least enjoyable. He and his studio shouldn't suffer because marketing majors have no soul. I've enjoyed all his games to date and unless this one is a complete flop I'd say he deserves our support.

I think it's from kids, tbh. Like how the hell did someone as retarded and annoying as pewdiepie make money? Apparently it was the tweener audience.

For the Warhammer III thing, I though it was because the marketing hacks at Sega gave keys to a bunch of Chinese streamers who knew nothing of the game.

Regarding streaming/pre-release footage, at least it can show how the game is played/how it looks in action compared to curated marketing videos and reviews

On the one hand, I was into some pretty cringy shit when I was a kid and I don't really want to think about it. Everyone was, obviously.

On the other, how else am I supposed to get angry at the fact that time has passed.

SplatterCat is cool, his whole shtick is promoting games that (usually) wouldn't get much marketing otherwise. Obviously this isn't the case for this game, but for other, smaller developers with no previous fame a video of his is nothing but a boon.

They make videos of these games because you aren't able to play them so it gets them views they'd otherwise never get.
Do you think he'd be making these videos if the game was released already?

Like I said, it's mutual fellatio.

Yeah I like his channel a lot, he def plays a ton of lesser known games and he doesn't have that whole annoying overly enthusiastic schtick a lot of youtoobers have. Oh, and he doesn't do the fake outrage/negativity crap either which is great.

Would be the case if he covered big / known games, which he doesn't for the most part. Also, many times you CAN play the game since it's a public demo
I agree with you on big youtubers being able to play a game 3 days before release, but this simply doesn't apply to SplatterCat or youtubers like him

Before you call me out as a fanboy, I don't even fully watch his videos, just skim through them to find cute / unknown games

Seems this game is coming to Game Pass so I guess I will try it after all. Also what I have seen Cohh play, game is less actiony than I first assumed it would be.

Indeed. I watch channel solely because he shows indie games.

Hate that "comix-ey" UI style, but otherwise it does actually look pretty good so far. The little coyote fight at 7:50 seems nicely paced.

Arkanes only noteworthy game was Dark Messiah.
Strange way to spell "Arx Fatalis".

But yeah, I get the sentiment. All their games after DM are casual shit. They always try to make something good then bend the knee to crybabies mid-development.

Makes you wonder, if something on the level of quality of Thief 1 was released in 2022 with modern-ish graphics, would it make money?

Is there enough nostalgia lust to make it worth it?
