What game are you wasting time on?

Already posted this in the Grim Dawn thread but I think it bears repeating.

Instant classic item-in-a-game. They should have made it a Legendary item and gone full troll though imo.

yeah good stuff. pity you problably wont use it considering your current level.

i scored soiled trousers early on and for a while it was my go-to (or is it poo-too) skill.

anyway, been playing a few chars in immortal throne of late. game still looks absolutely gorgeous; totally wipes the snot off of wasteland 2's graphics.

Metal Gear Solid 3

Been a few years since I've played it and since MGSV came out I've been itching to replay this. I realized I haven't ever gone for the Foxhound rank so I'll be attempting to do that shortly. Right now I'm playing on Hard, taking my time listening to all the codec conversations, and getting used to the game again -- damn was that necessary. Controls feel dated as hell, and it took me a while to remember a few things. I don't even want to imagine how alien MGS2's controls are going to feel when I get to that. I'll go through it on European Extreme once for a practice run before I make the attempt for Foxhound rank.

I feel more-or-less the same about the game as I did the last time I played it. I really wish Snake was a more interesting character here; same with The Boss. At least EVA and Ocelot make up for that, but otherwise still digging it, and man, no matter how many times I've gone through this game, some of the stuff is still really entertaining.

Good luck with the Ponisovje Warehouse section.

Good luck with the Ponisovje Warehouse section.

Yeah, I always had trouble not getting caught in that section. Looking at a 2nd speedrun right now and some of the stuff these people pull off is so ridiculous that it's amazing. That practice run is going to have a lot of continues.

Edit: Made it to the area before meeting EVA up in the mountain on my practice run. I realized last night that I kind of don't want to repeat the motorcycle sections anymore than I might have to on the Foxhound run. Not to mention that what else is really left after that? Just the Shagohod fight, more motorcycle sections, escort EVA and The Boss fight. I think I can handle most of it.

And so I started my Foxhound run already. Made it to Bolshaya Past South in 22 minutes. Hoping to reach The Pain around the 30 minute mark. Once I get past The End I'll go back to my other file to try out strategies in Groznyj Grad.

Still 5 days to go 'til WL2, so I went and picked up 'The Last Of Us.'

Spoke too soon. Wrote this on Thursday, was actually going to buy TLOU on FRIDAY. And on Friday the damn thing's discount was just GONE! Fucking Sony. The game was supposed to be 60% off 'til the 21st of October. Still full priced now. After 3 days of people complaining. Nobody's saying anything either, typical. Cannot stand shitty customer service.

So I'm playing Black Flag now.:/

Been re-playing Morrowind over the last month or so. This is the furthest I've come into the game before the usual boredom kicked in. About level 25, really high in Mages Guild and Fighters Guild. Also did some quests for the Temple and even some for Almalexia in Mournhold. Hope I actually finish it this time and don't delete it, having to eventually reinstall it when I get the "Morrowind itch" again.

Meanwhile I'm playing some Thief 2 FMs. Finished Dracula and now playing through the latter stages of "Ominous Bequest". Dracula was damn amazing for my first experience playing FMs for Thief. Bequest is also very good. Though I have to say that I'm not that knowledgeable with the usual tricks employed in designing these, so I had to read through some walkthroughs at certain points. Had forgotten how immersive the world can feel when you're discovering the backstory through diaries and letters, which you could've easily missed

MGSV.

I finished Chapter 1 and now I'm just helplessly completing side ops, avoiding the repeat missions and feel sort of like a pathetic addict.

Goddamn is the car combat fun in Mad Max, once you have the thunderharpoon and a few upgrades it is so much fun blowing up an enemy gas tank with the shotgun, swithching to the harpoon and pulling out the wheels of the main target while finishing up his buddies with thunderpoon, even the Melee combat picks up with a few upgrades So you can enter rage mode in a few blows and pull out the wraslin moves on some war boyz ass

My only complaint is that the car upgrades (outside of thunderpoon) don't seem to actually do anything. Handling feels basically the same from slightly positive to completely maxed out, the best armor upgrades in the game will still result in you dying to two direct hits from the northern map guys, etc. I'm not sure if the problem is that the upgrades do virtually nothing, or that the later enemy vehicles are just so statistically powerful they don't matter, but it makes collecting scrap/getting all upgrades feel pointless. Once you have thunderpoon you might as well just call it a day, nothing else matters.

About to play Diablo for the first time. Should I install the Hellfire expansion for the first playthrough, or is that for subsequent runs only?

You can install it. It adds some content and an optional area, and doesn't change the overall experience.

60+ hours into the game, I agree with you. You max out too quickly and there's not enough differentiation between certain upgrades. The positive points I noted stand, but really... once you get to "dry land", the progression grinds to a halt.

Playing Torment again, i'd forgotten how many little touches of foreshadowing and thematic reinforcement there are throughout the Mortuary. Really is a masterpiece of storytelling. Gone with my usual high strength, everything else mediocre build, so that combat is enjoyable in the Hive and all that districts content takes time to unlock. Will specialise as Fighter to get early Giant strength and only dabble with spells and thievery.

One thing i'm wondering about is that spiked tower Annah is standing by though, its shadow looks a lot like the Lady of Pains face silhouette. Wonder if this is done intentionally by Dabus?

I can definitely not recommend playing on any difficulty below 10, as it just increases the amount of fights needed before you win the game, and as you cannot save, it becomes very tedious to slog through in the end. At difficulty 5 I had to go through 8 specific monster kills in total, each yielding +1 all stats from Lord British, which is a complete joke compared to what the magical amulets can do to you. The more times you have to venture down into the dungeon, the higher the chance is your game is gonna get fucked over by a gremling.
The game runs incredibly slow on Apple II, but I tried the DOS version as well, but there seemingly is no introduction available in that version ("backstory", explanation of stats etc) and the map for my lucky number was different compared to what I had already discovered.
It's fun to play through once, though.

Chugging along in MM3 still, currently playing Gothic 1 for the first time as well and I'll eventually get around to start Ultima 1.... some day....

Replaying KOTOR 2 with TSLRCM, playing a light side character and've gotten through Nar Shadda and Dantoinne so far. Nar Shadda's probably the most interesting and elaborate world in the game story-wise, but gameplay-wise it's pretty bad, forcing you to go through constant waves of monster corridors with your B-list characters with very little breathing room left for you to get your shit together and re-organize. Dantoinne's pretty dull overall, it's pretty much just there as fanservice to the first game, but completely lacks the atmosphere that the ruins of Korriban has.

If you leave Nar Shaddaa until later in the game, you should be able to Force Lightning or Force Storm your way through those mobs (even playing on LS).

I knew that, but I just wanted to get that area out of the way as soon as possible (that and I kinda triggered the story part of it completely by accident by walking too close to the Jekk Jekk Tarr). It wasn't particularly hard, mind you. Even with a lack of force-efficient party members I was still able to breeze through 90% of the encounters. I just take issue with how much of a tedious slog it was.

In tried replaying Kotor II a few years ago with the 1.8.1 restoration patch and to my amazement I found it to be mind numbingly boring... The combat is simply that bad. I honestly didnt recall it beign so boring
Currently still playing Mad Max and yeah while the gameplay sort if plateaus after getting the Thunderpoon the upgrades are not meant to make you overpowered but to keep you competitive on the harder encounters in the late game; if you try going to the end game without the car fully upgraded you will definetly see the difference the upgrades make
Also enjoying the heck out of Dead State Reanimated; maybe the most fun I have had with a current rpg since probably Wasteland 2... And Stayed up late and currently downloading The Director Cut that right now and will probably just check out to see the new UI and the changes in combat with the VATS and the perks And go to bed....

About 8 meters beneath sea level.
Been boarding long dead alien hulks to blow holes in their ancient defense systems with Cryptark. Was looking for a fun arcade space blaster and with Galak-Z nowhere to be seen, this peeked my interest. It's a fun, often frantic, arcade rogue-like with some good tunes and a surprisingly polished experience considering it is early access. Worth a try if you like arcade shooters.
