More Warband this time with Prophecy of Pendor mod.

PoP is the most monocled of all Warband mods, I wish I could play it again for the first time.

Yeah overall I liked it but I have a question - is there any way to increase the battlefield sizes? The castle siege maps are okay but open battles tend to be very cramped.
Literally have less than 10 seconds to issue commands before contact with the enemy. Once the scramble starts, I can hardly distinguish anything in the seas of bodies.

You can't modify the battlefield, but you can set up custom formations before you are attacked. If things are really bad, you can savescum a bit to get the right kind of terrain before battle.

I usually set up a massive archer line just behind a line of cavalry/infantry, then ride out solo to bait the enemy into charging at me, then I lead them back into the archers, which are protected by that line of cavalry/infantry. At a certain range, order the cavalry/infantry formation to charge. They will clash and the archer line will melt the opposition. Once you get Silvermist Rangers this becomes a very nasty open field tactic.

Dino Crisis 2 done. The ending isn't very good gameplay-wise though plot-wise there is no complain to be filed.

Too bad the gameplay was streamlined compared to the first part and overall it feels more like a TPP shooter than survival horror with puzzles. I still enjoy it though, fighting gigantic dinosaurs is always fun (except the horrible third part).

Finished Doom 2016,not a bad modern shooter,it's different than the old ones, levels aren't that open, you just move from one Designated Killing Area(tm) to the next one but the action is pretty good although it would be nice if it was a bit faster.Graphics are good, music was ok although I don't understand why they tried to have a story in this game,it's Doom after all.Recommended if it's on sale and you want a modern shooter.

Been revisiting Fallout New Vegas for the first time in 5+ years. Got so bored with it and deleted it today. I have hit a real RPG drought. The only games keeping me entertained these days are sports management sims.

Finished Bastard, the last of the Eisenwald expansions,it's nice mini campaign without any gameplay/graphic/music differences from the main game. The story is interesting but there are a couple of problems.First of all there aren't really any sidemissions/legends in this one, just the main story, second the original game presented you with some really hard choices that weren't black or white just different shades of gray and almost everything had some bad consequences eventually. In this one some of the choices you get to make are either extremely evil/edgy or you lose some prestige, major decline if you compare them to the ones in the main game, not to mention they added some leftardism in them.Anyway it's still a good game if you liked the main game so recommended.

I don't know. I like the first game a lot, but I would say that the series shines with the second game which is when it stops trying to be a Resident Evil clone. But I might feel this way due to how many RE clones came out at the time, tho. Today it just feels like more of a bummer because that whole niche is dead.

WING COMMANDER

Damn it feels good to be a gamer. Even though my first foray into the WC series started with Wing Commander 3, I thought I owed myself to go back - back to the fut... nevermind. These are the humble beginnings of the saga, starring pre-Mark Hamill Christopher Blair - the rising star fighter - who finds himself in the thick of the intergalactic struggle against the feline Kilrathi. A struggle that just seems to keep on going. Your goal is to scrag furballs and not die. Then you go shoot the shit with various people at the bar. If things go to hell fast that bar might eventually begin to feel a bit empty. Fortunately in my case I managed to keep both myself and my wingman alive - most of the time. The only noteworthy casualty of the war ended up being Joseph "Knight" Khumalo, who foolishly tried to engage a Ralari head-on with a damaged fighter. I should've sent him home earlier. Could've, should've. Should've been Maniac. Those are the consequences in this game series. If you fail a mission and return to base empty-handed the game will simply go on. Too many defeats and the Kilrathi end up bumming you and the entire Terran Confederation, basically. That's not what happened this time, however. The war went quite smoothly, culminating with me making a one-time deposit of a Spiculum missile and everything else into the Kilrathi star base and GTFO'ing. Thus the systems were finally cleansed of the Kilrathi menace for ever and ever. Not really. They just keep coming back for the sequel.

For those curious I attained the rank of Major and won three medals. Not the best but this was my first time playing.

Despite the performance hitches due to the game being CPU-bound and not being able to play nice with DOSBox cycles, it is still a hell of an experience for a gamer retreading history. I found 5000 cycles to be pretty good overall, going up to 6000 or 7000 depending on how much shit was going on at any one time. This was on my rig, however. There's the Kilrathi Saga edition of the game which remedies the CPU cycles problem but in turn introduces other issues, like endlessly looping victory music. The Kilrathi Saga is not available on GOG, either, so it is what is.

So, yeah...

What? You want a rating? Are you gay? Still, here's a :salute: for good old Knight, who was actually rather useful as a wingman. Now I'm off to the Secret Missions expansion.

Guns that feel powerful are a big deal to me and saying that Dino Crisis 2 delivers is an understatement. In particular, using the AT gun on raptors reminded me of the Punisher monologuing during the shootout in the Russian base: "Pure overkill. AA guns. Really meant to be used on aircraft. Use these on people, and you turn them into paint". The sound effect, your character thrown back by the recoil, the way the raptors are sent flying, it was a gungasm in its purest form.

I'm done gushing over it. It took me less than five hours in normal difficulty and that's even though I carefully checked each interactive element and took my time. Everyone remotely interested should absolutely go for it, worst case scenario it's not a big time investment.

The shotgun is like 20 horse cocks firing off at once.

Finally got around to finishing Might and Magic VII: FBaH. The first thing I'll say is that the game is a massive time sink. It took me over a week of solid play to get through 75% of the game before I got burnt out and shelved it. I then picked it up last week and resolved the final few quests. I didn't finish some of the more significant side quests/honorary promotions, although I got max promotions for my four PCs.

Overall it's really enjoyable, although it would have been like pulling teeth without having an online guide + maps with info on where skill trainers and dungeons were. Some of the spell schools are a bit unbalanced, too. You'd have to be masochistic to not specialize in air and water, as they offer the spells that cut down on most of your travelling (Lloyd's Beacon, Town Portal, Fly, Jump), as well as the Invisibility spell, which is crucial for competing some mid-game promotion quests where enemies are overleveled.

I ended up taking on the final dungeon with a slightly underleveled party, so I felt a lot of pain until I cheesed it with blasters + Haste.

Overall a pretty solid blobber, just make sure you print out some annotated online maps.

Ok moving on from Dragon Lore I've started Star Control 2

The 25 year old game still more fun and more in depth than mass effect Andromeda and with better dialogue.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit. Pathfinder: Wrath
Prey - They've nailed the space station horror thing really well and like 8 hours in there's still tension with new enemies and fear of the stronger one's I know. You realy need to focus in on getting a few choice things done at a time though, as the optional objectives really stack up and if they're all active I find myself kind of getting nowhere. Loving it regardless.

Euro Truck Sim 2 - Perfect for videos and podcasts on the second monitor. I even bought that dumb Fantasy Paint Jobs pack so I can have a wizard on my truck

I was like 40 hours into Divinity Original Sin 2 and really loving it, then my Mum fell ill (she's fully recovered now) and a whole load of other ridiculous shit happened and I wasn't able to play anything for like a month. I finally sat down to play again, and even with my notes I couldn't remember what the fuck was going on, where I was etc. I can't stand that shit so I decided to restart it during the Christmas break. Kind of sad to have pissed all that time away, but whatever, I enjoyed it enough to be fine with starting again later

I am so close to finishing this! I'm at average party level 12 on dungeon level 10. I know I could finish the game, assuming I lucked out and got one of the easier encounters for Werdna. Instead, I'd rather level to 13 so I can get the teleport spell for one of my mages, just in case. With that in mind, I've been slowly exploring level 10, one expedition per (real time) day, slowly leveling my party.

I'll probably post an overall review in the Wiz thread once I've finished this, but for the time being: I really like this game. I played it on a lark thinking I'd just play it until I "got it" enough and then move straight to, I dunno, Wiz 6 I guess, but as I slowly went through the game I found it to be really compelling. I mean, for a game of its age, it is balanced really well. You are never really in any HUGE danger if you take things slowly, and as long as you explore properly (i.e. draw a map and explore each square of each level), you'll be just about ready for each dungeon level as you arrive. Also great: the level design. Each level is so unique, that you quickly get a feel for the layout. I have a horrible sense of direction, but even so, I could probably draw rough maps of each level by memory. Unlike the more mazelike dungeons of, say, Bard's Tale, the dungeons in Wizardry make some sort of sense, as each level is often split into subareas that are easier to memorize.

By the time you get late into the game, combats are extremely lethal, but so are you. It's only a matter of a few key presses to get from the start of level 1 to any other level, so you can be as cautious as you want.

I'm not playing the game 100% proper like the CRPGAddict did. I usually backup my save each day before playing, and if I get a party wipe or whatever, I'll revert and then quit for the day. I would have definitely played the game like this back in the day, backing up my save disk just in case, so I don't feel too bad about it. I think with EXTREMELY careful play you could ironman this without too much problem (the CRPGAddict did), but I'm not convinced that many people even ironmanned the game back in the day—the temptation to just backup your save disk must have been so great, I couldn't see anyone not doing it once they figured out they could do it.

(P.S. the DOS game only saves AFTER combat, so I can also imagine that people probably just reset the game if they had a bad combat).

Once I finish this, I'll likely take a break before continuing on to Wiz2, but I definitely plan on doing Wiz1-3 then 5. I might play 4 separately, but not sure yet as it's more of a puzzle game for Wiz pros then an RPG, but we'll see.

Darkest Dungeon
At first I hated this game, but as a casual thing to just put 10-15 mins. per day into, it's pretty fun. A game like this lives and dies by its atmosphere, and luckily the game has atmosphere in spades. I don't necessarily feel any sense of accomplishment from playing the game (indeed, the game is set up in such a way that you will always make progress and basically cannot lose, as long as you level up the carriage right away), but its fun to slowly plink away at it between more substantial games. I don't hate it.

I resemble that remark. Well, almost; I made a backup of the save before facing Werdna.
Before that I had only one party death, and I beat Werdna in second try.
Too play it 100% Ironman you'd have to grind enough levels that your whole party have enough HP to survie a TILTOWAIT.

Finished Chuchel,Amanita's latest game not exactly an adventure game, more like a puzzle game in a weird world similar to other games by them but this one is more of a little kids game than previous ones, although grown ups can enjoy it too.Pretty short though, about 2 hours and no real replayability, nice graphical design and some nice but simple puzzles.Recommended only on a sale.

Finally beat GTA San Andreas. Haven’t been gaming much due to IRL, so been chipping away at this classic for three months.

I remember playing this game and loving it back when i played it on the PS2, but I could never get past the flying mission where you need to intercept a plane going the opposite direction. Not sure if I was just impatient back then or what, but I beat the mission on the second try.

That being said, the flying missions in this game are easily the most frustrating part of the entire thing. I felt like the difficulty factor was amped up too high or the missions were just a tad too long which made getting through them much harder.

Regardless, this is easily a 9.5/10 for me. Disappointed that the Steam version doesn’t have the old music, but it’s whatever. Other than that and the flying missions, this is a must play on the PC.

Oh and apparently it has a very active modding community, so will look into that when I get the itch to 100% it. There is something satisfying about tagging walls or taking over gang territory that doesn’t feel like busywork compared to some of the achievements in the earlier GTA3 games.

mustawd. ever play vice city? How does the gameplay compare? I don’t care about achievements, fyi.

The gameplay is similar, but the missions have more flavor in San Andreas. People praise Vice City a lot over San Andreas, but I found it lacking tbh. It’s definitely an improvement over GTA3 in a lot of ways, but it doesn’t flesh out the world enough imo. Not enough of a Miami Vice feel. Lots of lost opportunities.

There are some improvements in San Andreas, depending on what you’re into.

A few examples:

-Ability to swim. A few missions depend on swimming ability.
-More control over cars flipping over
-Ability to increase your stamina, strength and fat level. You can get really fat if you just eat a lot. The cutscenes even acknowledge that and give the main char some funny lines.
-Opportunity to have multiple girlfriends. Some have cool abilities like picking you up from hospital
-Buy clothes from different stores. IIRC Vice City gave a few different outfits but not the ability to mix and match. There are like 3-4 stores that kind of replicate real life stores like The GAP for example. Or FUBU.
-You can fly planes or helicopters
-You can parachute from a plane or high altitudes
-You can play basketball
-Driving, boating and Flying school that actually walk you through how to do specific tricks with vehicles
-Ability to take over enemy gang territories (make sure you dont waste ur time when if first gets introduced cuz it’ll reset later in the game for in-game reasons)
-You can drive a bicycle and there is a skate park you can do tricks in
-Other cosmetic stuff like haircuts and tattoos
-You can customize a lowrider and even give it Nitrous or Hydraulics. There’s a lowrider hydraulic mini game, but I find it annoying. But it’s basically DDR/Guitar Hero mechanics, so all good if u like that.
-The world is much larger but also more vertical.
-Trucker missions to drive a 18 wheeler

The main drawbacks of SA are that the airplane missions are fucking annoying.

If you play it I recommend a few things:

-Add the grafix mod
-If a mod exists then add in the old music. Lots of good songs are missing
-Steam version has the ability to take fps cap off. Although this causes some screen tearing (which didnt bother me) but also prevents you from diving in water. So turn it off during water missions.

Also, the game has been made into a multiplayer game by modders. Last I checked the population was around 300 ppl on a Friday night. Not sure at all how it works, but 300 ppl seems like a very large population for the size of the game. Also, the mp version has a ton of mods from my understanding.

In terms of achievements I meant stuff like in GTA3 where ud get x/100 packages. It was just arbitrary and didnt fit in to the gameworld in any way. But San Andreas has a similar mechanic that they’ve integrated into the gameworld beautifull, so it doesnt feel like busy work. At least for me, it makes me want to get all 100, and I’m never the sort of person who does that.

There are a few missions with difficulty spikes here and there, but if I can finish it anyone can. I highly recommend it.

EDIT: San Andreas also has a better sense of humor than VC. It goes back to some of its goofier roots in GTA3, and the characters are more memorable because of it. The voice acting is also more even in terms of quality, altho like any GTA3-based game there are some small characters that seem to be voiced by the dev team.

EDIT2: Also, it has Samuel L Jackson and Mike Penn voicing a main character. AlthoughI found Penn’s voice acting weird in some instances. Like the editing was off. But overall it works.

Just had a Retro gaming sesh with the missus tonight, and had forgot how thoroughly enjoyable Toejam & Earl on the Megadrive is for a relaxing hour or so.

Not a classic by any means, but still holds up today for a bit of easy-going fun.

I just used my Xbox 360 controller to go through those. Doing them on keyboard is basically hell.

Use this: https://gtaforums.com/topic/753764-san-andreas-downgrader/
I used it in my playthrough and I can vouch for it.
It will retain all the advantages of the new Steam versions such as the plug and play Xinput (360 controller) support and modern hardware support but also all the advantages the old versions, such as mod support and the most importantly the old music. I could not play San Andreas without Ozzy Oz - Hellraiser. That song was one of my favorites.

Yah I used a gamepad. But many people also complain about those flying missions. The harrier jet one was particularly annoying af. I felt the control scheme for the vertical jets was really awkward. It was similar to flying a helicopter but it felt harder to control. I myat have played that mission 30 times before I beat it.

EDIt: thanks for the music recommendation. Im gonna come back to it till I 100% it. It’s that good.

Giving Test Drive Unlimited 2, the game that killed(?) Eden Games, a go.
I can kinda see what they're trying to do, to make a combo racing game/chat room but holy shit does it have some wtf decision-making.

Take for instance, your avatar. Since this is a social game, you need to be able to tell your avatars from one another. So you pick a character instead of creating your own off the bat (Wtf n.1) and at some point you're told you should visit a cosmetic surgery clinic (wtf n.2), in which you have to spend the money you earned racing in order to change your character (wtf n.3). The biggest wtf, however, happens when you leave the clinic looking like this.
Xxo0AUi.jpg
Yes. You get your head wrapped in bandages (!!) because you had cosmetic surgery (!!!) in a racing game (!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!). Why? Or rather, pourquoi? Because french people, that's why.
Studio tanked after this (wonder why) but seems to have resurrected somehow.

Ed- Oh, speaking of wtf decisions, how could I neglect to mention the wonderful interior design simulator? You actually have a larger array of options for your living room bean bag chair than you do choices of interior trim in your brand new Audi. C'est bizarre, ça.

Fuck me, Castlevania 4 is still fucking brilliant. Been blitzing through all the old 16-bit games and I thought I'd put it on for a few min just for a quick blast. Could not put it fucking down. Classic.

Totally. This is also one of my all time favourite pieces of video game music

What a way to open the game.

Whole soundtrack is nothing short of stunning. In fact the whole game is.

Bloody Tears is a fave of mine.

Shit, I don't get it. How come after winning a Nord Extermination campaign, my Vaegir King just refuses to declare war on other nations.
It's been 3 months of peacetime in the game. I was ok with that for a while since I needed time to invest in marriage, garrison, and businesses, but it's getting boring now.
Swadia is getting stronger, recapturing Dhirim from the Khergit Khanate and conquered Velucca from the Rhodoks. I don't like facing a fully developed Swadian Knight army, we need to attack soon, or else I'm going rogue.
