Finished Final Faggotry 2 at last. A shame that the leveling system dragged the game pace down and made it longer than it should have been, because there are some nice moments there. But because of it, you'll need to spend a long time leveling your skills (either the legit or cheese way) if you want to survive the harder encounters, and when you start to do well, you just steamroll everything in your way. No challenge isn't very fun. Also magic is surprisingly kind of useless in that game, except for the cure and heal spells.

Hopefully Final Faggotry 3 will be better.

Finished Final Fantasy XIII, and yeah, it is the worst in the entire series. Ugh.

Now playing Valkyria Chronicles. I am a but dissapointed in it's "Scoring" system in that you are graded better if you finish a mission FAST, not being tactical. ugh.

Other than that, pretty fucking solid game. And the Anime is not too RAGE inducing.

13 is worse than 2?

I should have more correctly said of the FF games I have played (6,7,8 (the best), 9, 10,12) it's the worst one. I more consider 7 to be when the series finally found it's self. Then progressed and now is getting worse and worse with each release.

It was very pretty though......

8 is the best? I never played it but from what I can see it is often maligned. I'm going through my long-time plan of playing them all and just finished the first 2. Played 4 before but that was a long time ago and I'll replay it again since my memory is hazy. I wonder about how the third one will turn out, but at least it doesn't have a "use to train skill" system.

Did I mention I was going through Quest for Glory as a wizard? If not, well, I am. On to 5 now. Gotta say that, while being a spell slinger is lots of fun in the series, most games don't take advantage of spells at all for puzzle-solving, especially compared to Paladin and Thief, both of which get lots of class-specific puzzle solutions and class-specific subquests. QFG1 is quite good for the mage, but even QFG2 has only the extremely minor WIT part, especially compared to trying to become a Paladin (which pretty much spans the entire game) and all the thievery you can do, though the Forbidden City as a spellcaster is a breeze (as it should be), and the final confrontation is a lot of fun. QFG3 treats magic users pretty well too - first there's the whole staff business, then the magic duel is one of my favorite puzzle chain in the entire series (THIS is what being a spellcaster is all about! I wish CRPG's took lessons from QFG), and the Lost City's also great fun. Unfortunately QFG4 was no fun at all - the only wizard-only bit is with the faeries, which is an absolutely pathetic attempt at rehashing QFG3's shaman duel, and the Bone Ritual is the only part of the endgame that requires remotely clever spellcasting. So far QFG5 seems to have absolutely no wizard-only material, and casting spells in its combat system is even more of a pain than with QFG4. Shame.

8 (the best)

Yeah I pretty much expected XIII to be terrible when I saw what they did with the summons, but I'd consider the opinion of someone who considers 8 the best in the series totally invalid. 8 had pretty much nothing going for it at all. It gave you no reason to explore, encouraged grinding of the most repetitive, banal sort, and had a shitty, broken battle system with wildly imbalanced characters that hardly had any distinct abilities except dealing damage with different graphics. And the plot is beyond retarded. Submarine castles are more believable than than memory loss shitfuck.

FF3 had the first job system didn't it? I think I played the PSP remake of it for a while. I remember it being decent.

I'm perpetually hooked on Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 with a seasonal regularity, revisiting the game with crazy addiction for a few days several times a year. I'm in one of those moods now. It's not just looking at small people ride your crazy rides or having 1st person perspective access to the shit you build; what really gives me a sense of challenge in the unlimited cash sandbox mode is trying to develop an entire park with a strict theme using only the vanilla assets. It really stretches imagination and creativity, I guess. Although I don't use mods, some of the rollercoaster mods are quite impressive (I don't dare to use them because they look like they involve even MORE compulsive work and attention).

E.g (all in-game footage):

There are better ones out there, tbh. These are just to show what the engine is capable of.

Play 5 (GBA version greatly prefered), it's actually pretty good. The heroes are happy, there is no need to grind, bosses are not endless attrition wars of healing/doing damage but glass cannons that cause either your party or them to die quickly (Most bosses can be killed in 2-4 turns by a competent party, some can be done in just 1), the class system is actually fairly fun and there isn't a stupidly shoehorned romance story despite the main guy hanging around with 3 girls at the end of the game.

Honestly, I found FF 9 to be one of the best. I know the characters will annoy most Codexers, but it didn't bother me at all, and the rest of the game is so huge and full of stuff to do...the story is silly, but the world is the best in the series.

FF 8 is a good one too, especially the story, but there were some parts of it that had a horrible pacing, like the desert prision and especially that floating final dungeon...still Laguna Loire flashbacks and that city part where you attack the sorcerror were amazing.

The Rollercoaster Tycoon games are a blast. I still install the first one from time to time more than a decade later. I remember having some uber-coaster that nobody would ride for months and months. And then inexplicably some guy got on it. Rode it. Got off. And vomited like five times walking down the exit path.

Still can't 1CC any of them on normal mode

Hah! Managed to 1CC PCB twice now, first with Sakuya then with Reimu. I'm getting much better about using my bombs before I die.

Edit: Just beat Crimzon Clover for the first time too. Though it was just on easy mode. Half my deaths were pure bullshit too, things popping out of the background or attacks too fast to possibly dodge without foreknowledge. I hate that shit.

I'm completely the last of the campaigns in the last expansion for HoMM 5. I can't believe the amount of playing I got through the whole game and its expansions.

I also ladder daily in SC2. I'm currently Platinum League near the top of my division.

:salute:

Been playing IN myself. Managed to finish Lunatic, but I really want to 1cc it because I know I should be able to (the levels are pretty simple and you can start out with 7 lives). The fact that it penalizes death bombing is biting me in the ass every time though :(

I'm surprised IN wasn't the one I finished on normal first TBH; it's much easy than PCB for me. Except stage 4. I have to bomb spam like a madman on stage 4 boss, either side.

Also, I can't play Sakuya at all in IN, I get destroyed. But I've gotten pretty far before and can capture around half the cards, so I just need a proper run where I actually use my bombs. I waste about 10-15 every playthrough from deaths I swear. Bit less with Reimu's easier deathbombing, but still. What always throws me off is when I get close to meeting my time quota for the stage and then die/deathbomb and then die a bunch more because I'm desperately trying to make up the loss, when I should honestly just not bother with it after stage 2-3 or so. It's the same effect 10/12/13 has on me- I go into a frenzy trying to get points/extra lives when all I really need is to survive to get way more points/lives than I'm throwing away. I do much better when I know I'm going to accumulate most of the lives naturally just by playing anyways.

I got within a few spellcards of beating the extra stage in PCB using Sakuya as well, I'm hoping I can pull that off sometime soon.
