What game is that?
Digimon World for Play 1.

Man I wasted DAYs of my life on this game, it was hard and cruel. I remeber when I finally got a MetalMamemon he lastes like 2 hours and died of old age...couldn't even battle with my friends.

I really miss monster raising games like this one, Pokemon is great, but Digimon monsters are way more interesting...shame they only did shitty games after the PS1. Anyone knows of a non-shitty game like this?

Are you abusing buffs as well? The dispel skill for debuffs isn't the same as the one for buffs. Some bosses can't handle one or the other.

Yeah, but the only ones I really have are Rakukaja and Sukukaja (no Makukaja and I don't think you can get any -kajaoan spells this early). I mean, I have Tarukaja on one demon, but that really doesn't get things going fast enough to stop the rape. Double Rakukaja, one Sukukaja, and Fog Breath in the first turn was good enough to really take over the Matador fight (and the fact that everybody but my main character nulled or drained force...that helped too), but Dante just lols at triple Rakukaja and Fog Breath and proceeds to critical hit rape and kill a few demons on his first turn, or one shot the main character. Media can't stop getting one-shotted.

Have War Cry? Double strength Takunda (debuff damage) is awesome. Even if your defense is minimized if his damage is minimized as well then they cancel out, which is almost survivable.

Can't remember if it is this boss specifically, but lots of bosses debuff 100% of the time if they reach -4 debuff or you reach +4 buff, but only rarely if its only at +3/-3. Might want to try that out.

Basically once he starts using Taunt my method is to kill him ASAP. If you have decent strength and focus you can do 1k damage in a single hit, even without an attack skill. More with crits.

Also, if you have a few lying around, don't forget your Attack/Magic Mirrors. I'm pretty sure you aren't facing Almighty damage yet, though some of his sword attacks are elemental.

Another protip: Sometimes it's worth it to throw a debuff on the boss, if they're going to obsessively remove debuffs you can make them waste a precious turn. You get 4 after all. More if they have a weakness or you score some crits.

Yeah, he seems to like using that crappy item from DMC2 move midway through the fight once he eats a debuff, but on the third phase he just taunts and does bullet time for massive damage to the whole party, never wasting a turn for Holy Star.

I think I either have to get some physical resistant demons, or just level up once to get Force Boost on my main character and hope I can race him with Tornado instead of Fog Breathing him. Tornado does massive damage already; if the boost skills are anything close to the 50% boost they were in Devil Summoner...Tornado would be insane.

Its a good idea to still buff your defense once every turn, as he will continue using taunt which is a hell of a lot nicer than 2x attacks.

Yes, get Tornado. Its not that amazing for boss fights (too expensive) unless you are fully buffed (and magic buffs being separate from physical buffs drives me insane), but it will completely clear up any normal fight for most of the game.

As for fusions, I highly recommend you fuse down multiple lower level demons with buffs/debuffs, Watchful, and Dark Might. Watchful gets them experience, so you can sacrifice them on any demon you summon for tons of levels (they then learn all their skills as soon as their next level comes, so watch and use the correct sacrifice to bring them close to the next level). Dark Might is imba, giving autocrits during the new moon. Having your buff spells on them just makes it really easy to keep spreading out your buffs as you go. Plus, since they are low level its incredibly cheap for the payback, and you even get free items every time your low level demons level up. For the most part I don't even bother recruiting demons through negotiation, sacrifice fusions are just so much more powerful and versatile.

IIRC Watchful you get from leveling Koppa Tengu (sacrifice him to get the skill quickly), Dark Might is on Jack Frost.

Monster Rancher? It's quite similar, from the actual training with actual exercises and orders during combat instead of direct control to the "FUCK YEAH WE ARE FINALLY STRONG ENOUGH TO FIGHT THE BIG Bwhat do you mean you're dying of old age? :(" factor. MR4 for the PS2 is said to be the best (I have only really played 1, 2 and the ones for the gba)

Persona 4 on PCSX2/laptop. I have a yellow fever, fuck yeah!

Literally, in P4's case.

Yeah, best is either 2 or 4. 2 had better monsters/skill imo, but 4 had a better adventure subgame where your monsters can do specific things and you can ride around on them. And who doesn't want to ride around on a god damned giant dinosaur?

Damn, I should do a LP of one of those some day. I think I'll do a poll of a bunch of the odder/least copied games, like Carnage Heart, Monster Rancher, Deception, Azure Dreams and whatever else I think of.

Humm...I played my fair share of MR 2 too, was really fun to test every fucking cd available to see what monster would come out (Iron Maiden only gave out shitty monsters  )...it was a fun game, but the monsters were kind of dull...

I did some googling and it seems that Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (DS) is a pretty nice game, and that MR 4 is worth a try...maybe I'll just play Princess Maker try one of them.

Started to play Final Faggotry 3 and it is surprisingly good so far. The job system is very enjoyable and lets you customise your party as you see fit. It's also good that some jobs only shine in particular circumstances and will be mediocre the rest of the time. Most of the annoyances of FF2 are gone (senseless grinding, small inventory space that gets clogged with a multitude of quest items you can't discard, even when they won't ever be used again, progression either too hard or too easy, annoying menus, lackluster dungeon design, etc.) and it plays just fine. I'm also impressed at the jump in quality for the graphics, which is almost on par with FF4 for the SNES.

I need to play more but I'm very positive so far. The first one was a decent dungeon crawler, the second one tried to expand on this and unfortunately failed, but the third one seems to have gotten it right and is the first great Final Fantasy.

The Dragon Warrior Monsters series are regular Dragon Warrior games (i.e., good games on their own right, but aren't really "raising sims" if that's what you're looking for).

(Iron Maiden only gave out shitty monsters )

I had this Cd with songs by a russian band and I expected it to generate the coolest thing ever, all I got was a green reskin of the big eye main monster. I think a Linkin Park cd we had around generated something better. Erection status: gone

Back when I played Monster Rancher I found that 80's rap artists generated some really cool monsters. I have to try it out again, see if I remember correctly.

As good an excuse as any to listen to my old Run-DMC cds.

Managed to 1CC Ten Desires on normal. Odd that the earliest and latest of the games I'm practicing on are the ones I managed to beat first. I think I might manage to kill Ran soon too, but the bitch in IN's extra mode is way beyond me.

Guess you can complete 2 in about 5-6 hours. More if you have someone to play co-op with.

Just finished Driver: San Francisco, because why the fuck not. Pretty cool timewaster. The whole shift mechanic is usually well implemented and several missions use in a clever way (Finish a race in first and second place), and there's some fun incidental dialogue when you "possess" a car with passengers.

The difficult is kind of bullshit, unexpectedly. Rubberband AI, artificial shit to make you win the way the game wants you to (No don't break the police cars YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO EVADE THEEEEM), and similar shit that bugged me.

Pretty fun for a playthrough, probably never going to look at it again. Also it's an Ubisoft game, so don't even touch a legitimate PC copy lest you want to bring the French's ire (HAHA).

Replaying Arcanum with a gunslinger. Wasn't sure if Krupp's rebalance mod was compatible with UAP so I PeterCheatered to even the odds a bit. What the fuck is up with Terra Arcanum anyway? 404's all over the place, no readme files posted with downloads...?

Been playing a lot of Binding of Isaac, and finally beat It Lives! with ??? and a pretty good item stack (Whore of Babylon, Transcendence, Chocolate Milk, Radioactive Spider, Little Gish, Battery, Unicorn Horn) and stat upgrades even though I couldn't find a key on the first floor and a couple items I turned up were worthless for ??? (Little chubbs, the guy that gives you half a heart every 4 rooms or whatever). Sheol chewed me up and spit me out, however. If it had been any other character I think it would have been a Satan kill easily. For Sheol, I need a little bit more luck (or a lot more skill), like a Emperor card or Compass. Picking up the Relic and/or the Book of Revelations would also make life a lot easier.

First time playing Ultima VII. I have to play with Exult because the lack of smooth scrolling in the original DOS version gives me a headache. After getting used to the interface (and putting up with the horrible inventory and combat) I'm finding the game to be a huge amount of fun. Admittedly some of the quest design is pretty ridiculous and there is a lot of back-and-forth, but the world, characters, dialogue, and so on are all very entertaining even today. I could never get into the older Ultimas simply because I have trouble playing games quite that archaic as far as interface and visuals go, but Ultima VII hits a great sweet spot.

Took a break from playing boring-ass NWN to figure my way through Zork (which I thought I'd played at school, but it must have been a different game there, as there was a well but no well in Zork as I encountered). Won it last night, but that fucking thief argharghargh! I must have had the worst fucking luck with that game.

Have you tried Ultima 6? I think the UI still holds up today and the scope of the world is equally as impressive as it is in U7 if not more so. Anyhoo I'm slowly working my way through Derp Island. The combat is fun enough but the 'exploration' part is pretty pointless and the questing is so tedious it's hard for me to play longer than an hour at a time. It's the functional equivalent of Borderlands -- just with zombies and an emphasis on melee combat versus gun play.

Started playing Roma Surrectum (2.1a) again, a Rome: Total War mod.

Roma Surrectum (meaning "Rome Arises") is a complete remake of the game, both graphically and in its gameplay. Improvements include a new economic system with hundreds of new buildings, an accurate and graphically improved campaign map, massively upgraded battlefield environments with more realistic custom-built vegetation, new factions, 28 unique Roman legions, and over 500 highly detailed and more historically accurate units.

Currently doing a Pergamon campaign. Easier than I thought, since Pergamon (the city) is a fucking goldmine, earning 20k+ gold right from turn 1. Used it to bankroll major economic and military growth in my core cities. Stayed pretty non-aggressive in the first few years. Made peace with the Seleucids and sent Diplomats everywhere to get Trade and Map Info agreements.

Got attacked by the Greeks, so I sent Spies and Assassins to Sinope and Nicomedia to disrupt their economy and get people rioting (sounds like Greeks alright :smug:) while I swept away some of the Rebel provinces in Anatolia/Asia Minor. Wheeled around with a few of my army stacks, stormed Nicomedia and Sinope (put them to the sword too) and Nicomedia's already bringing in 11k gold a turn.

Deciding whether to consolidate my holdings with Forts on two particular chokepoints (ensuring that no one can invade by land from the west) and venture east, taking out Pontus (who are currently in a war with Armenia). Or taking Byzantion/Byzantium and heading west, waging war on Macedonia instead. Building up a Navy and sending some stacks straight into Greece (Athens, Korinthos, etc) or even somewhere else is also an option I've been considering.

Pontus seems like the easy option, since Macedon is already at war with Greece and why fuck over a potential ally when they're still useful? They'd also be a great buffer for an eventual clash with Rome. Add to that, Pontus is already distracted with their war with Armenia.

But doing that could put me at odds with Seleucia (who are Pontic allies) and the Ptolemaics (Egyptians) who has been my key ally since the beginning, since it's TW and the AI hates factions with lots of territory near theirs. Which would put me in a long war with some very large enemies, not to mention the reputation bomb involved if I went to war with the Ptolemaics. Which would screw me over in trying to secure future alliances or even map info agreements (5000 gold to see your settlements? Fuck you!)

Love the TW games.

You may've played Adventure at school. Zork heavily borrowed from it in parts.

You should try Infocom's "middle" games; their early and late ones are not the best, but in the mid-80's they made some of their best games (Trinity, Enchanter trilogy, and so on)

I will eventually, but after Zork 2 I've kind of had enough of text adventures for a while. Zork 2's much better, since the puzzles are a bit more logical and less random than some in Zork 1.

Also I don't think anything's going to top the following exchange, either.

“Oh, such beauty! Your generosity almost overwhelms me!”

“Truly I shall do thee a wonderful service when thou hast finished!”

Started playing Roma Surrectum (2.1a) again, a Rome: Total War mod.

I found it really disappointing. Played as the Gauls and easily unified France, fended off the Romans, got bored and quit. I just had way more money than I knew what too do with. Same case with the Greek City States. The enemy campaign AI seemed much too passive. Plus I don't trust any TW mod that expects you too play on Hard for battles (yeah 'cuse having my elite legionaries downgraded too have the same stats as shitty tier 1 enemy spearmen is fun because the AI is too retarded to beat you in a fair fight is fun). The graphics were pretty but I had no idea what the AI was spending it's money on, because it definitely wasn't on building stacks.

By comparison had much more fun with the TROM3 mod for Shogun 2, where I had to think carefully about every move and the AI gave me damn hard fights at 1:1 odds WITHOUT cheating (the mod even removes the AI's ability to cheat in the campaign). Don't think I'd be able to go back to Rome/Empire AI now. But for Rome I had the most fun with the Call of Warhammer mod. Tough campaign and beautiful unit models and custom maps.

Started a game of Baldur's Gate today. Human Paladin. Hopefully I'll get further than Nashkel Mines, where I usually shelve it.
Been playing some Starcraft 2 lately as well. Usually a couple of games per day. Also logged in to Kodex Minecraft a couple of times but I don't like all the addons and cheats the server is running.

OH, and also playing L.A. Noire. Great game but they put too much filler shit in it. I plan to finish it though.
