More demos.
The Iron Oath
I only got to fight a few battles. They weren't very difficult, probably for demo purposes. There's a big chance that I will really enjoy the final product. It looks and sounds great. The pixel graphics and animations are really well done. Battlefields aren't very large, but that doesn't always have to be bad. There were some cool abilities and synergies. Nothing mind blowing, but you can set up traps and push enemies on them as one example. You get to explore a dungeon in the demo. You move from tile to tile, and there, you will either fight, find chests or some other random event will occur. There's also the possibility of scouting tiles ahead, but that costs time, another aspect of the game that will probably be more important than it was in the demo. Unfortunately, the game ends shortly after you exit the dungeon and enter the world map.
Vagrus - The Riven Realms
Lots of text. Lots and lots of text. A ruined world, Gods got angry and then felt bad for they did so they fled. World is fucked, new horrible creatures, etc. You control a caravan, keep track of your fighters and slaves. Keep slaves happy and obedient by treting them well or showing them who's boss. Keep track of supplies and other parameters for your caravan top thrive. You move on a world map and will trigger events and fights. You can enter cities that also have stories, events, markets and so on. You have a certain amount of movement points on the world map. Once you consume them, you have to rest for the day. You get an overview of what happened to your units. You can choose how to distribute supplies. Give more or less, which affects morale and vigor. Combat can also be triggered while you camp. You can have up to six companions in battle. Initiative gets rolled at the start of combat, my team-pc team combat. I'm not really feeling this. There's nothing inherently wrong with the game, but it's not something that I will pick up.
Disjunction
The term RPG is used lightly here. This is a stealth game that lets you improve your character by finding upgrades and gaining exp by doing objectives. Cool pixel graphics and fun but decent stealth. I could see myself picking this up. My gut feeling tells me that it won't be longer than 10 hours.
Suits: Absolute Power
It could maybe be a fun time waster, but the demo bugged out on me after 13 minutes. Standard fare, turn-based fights is what I think this has. I only managed to fight one battle and it was 1v1. Game is black and white, whith what I think will be a JRPG formula. I can't judge it much.
The Way of Wrath
Lots and lots of dialog. They desperately need some editors. English native speakers, these guys are not. There were dialog choices, but I just pressed some choices to move on to combat. Combat, woweeh, does it need some sort of balancing. You take out units in two to three blows. This could be cool, if it wasn't for the fact that some of your units will be killed before they can even take an action. Turns aren't team based where one team goes first, and then the other team goes second. I guess there is a speed stat that the game keeps track of, for who starts first. There are no hexes or grids. It doesn't use 2AP system, instead it uses good old AP cost for movement and abilities. When I was about to encounter a new set of enemies, the game bugged out. I kept getting attacked over and over again. I couldn't progress further and had to quit the game. From what I played, it is a game that I could consider playing at some point in time, but one that I have to pick up at release.
Elden: Path of the Forgotten
Top-Down. pixel graphics, action roguelite(?) You get to start from the beginning when you die, but I still had items to progress. I'm not a fan of the controls, but I suppose that there's not much to do about that on PC. I failed twice at some mage dude, because I kept panicking. If you're good at action games, you will most likely put him down quite easily. Could be fun if you like these types of games, but it's not for me.
HOLMGANG: Memories of the Forgotten
A 3D action game. It's shit. I beat the demo, but I didn't find much to be positive about. Boring combat, fairly ugly, boring enemies and not a joy to control. My recommendation for now is to avoid, unless the final product is much improved.
Dreamscaper
An action roguelike. You're recommended to use a controller (I still used Kb&M) and I can understand why. Controlling your character wasn't bad but still a minor annoyance. Not much to say. You enter rooms, kill enemies and move on. I didn't really see any equipment or upgrades. You get bombs, enemies occasionally drop health, there's a melee and ranged attack. Time your attacks right and you deal bonus damage. There is no penalty for not timing them right, you just do regular damage. The boss I fought was moving around and you had to trigger mines to stun it. Hit it a few times and it will get up and attack. Dodge until mines show up again, rinse and repeat. Might be fun for fans of the genre, but not for me.
The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos
This was actually... good!? Yep. I skipped past most dialog, but the combat was good enough for me that I might actually pick this up. Biggest surprise of all the demos I have played on my demo bonanza. Exploration isn't anything special, dialog is cringe, but damn, I am still surprised. Flanking, cover, and being careful in general is a must to survive. The game uses a 2AP system. Either move and then attack, or vice versa. There are some actions that can use 2 AP, too. I stopped playing after a certain battle, because I felt that 70 minutes was enough for me to get a good impression of what I am in for. Very likely purchase, if not at release, very likely at a not too steep sale price.
