I've never finished a new game+ in any Diablo or similar games, I always lose interest halfway through. Closest ones were Titan Quest and Grim Dawn, but at some point it all devolves into grinding for resistances in all of them.

naww... DR works diff in 3

on my barb builds, it's a combo of armor and straight DR from items and skills... i don't even look at resistances

...also not a ng+ situation... though sometimes I am in story mode to do season objectives

greater rifts are how it works... randomized tile dungeons with a random boss at the end

I usually only make it to GR100, but I havent played for a few seasons

Diablo was based on roguelikes, they originally wanted to make something like NetHack but with graphics, but then almost accidentally stumbled onto real time click-fest combat and loved it. The rest is history. However, by doing this, they abandoned the intelligent gameplay of NetHack for something mindless and grindy.

I wouldn't call d3 mindless, but it could be considered 'grindy' depending on how fun the game is for you.

I definitely had to do some maths to progress at some key difficulties/rift levels. You have to balance damage with mitigation, and figure your way through your skills, active and passive, and combine with the right item stats/abilities, or you simply won't progress. I'd recommend staying off walkthrough and icy-veins type sites, because that would be mindless.

Your strategy will vary as you level up, and you will want to roll with whatever the RNG hands you, but the game essentially plays and feels the same from level 1 on. If you are having fun, your progression is just part of the gameplay loop. If you aren't having fun, and are just trying to reach 'the end'... I can see d3 being grindy as fuck.

also want to apologize for spamming the fuck out of this forum today... i've been trapped in a hotel room and finally signed a lease on a new place

Heroes of Might and Magic 2. I played this game in its time but never managed to complete all the campaigns. It's still pretty tough. What bothers me is that in a lot of the missions (at least in the original campaigns, the expansion seems a bit better in that regard), the intended way to play them is to rush the enemy as soon as possible, which is not really how I like to play these games.

Just reached the level 12 in Diablo 1.
Didn't manage to kill the King Leoric at first but the staff of firewall i found later managed to do the trick. Never found the need to backtrack after that.
Shame that most of the side quest rewards i got were tailored towards the warrior, don't have enough str and dex to make a use out of this stuff. The game also really loves to gift me with the basic firebolt spellbook, my most leveled spell currently
Really apreciate the way Diablo delievers it's lore though.

It made me actually look forward towards hearing what the town denizens have to say about my current quests.

But that's how you get the best scores.

I was also playing Diablo, finished my first warrior run just a few minutes ago. The game is a mess and a harbenger of decline. It's a collosal waste of time. I had fun, but it's not a good game. System Shock 2 I finished last month was great, this is shlock.

I am in the mood for D2 though.

Btw, I have played some D1 and a few dozen hours of D2 in my life, but this was the first time I've actually completed a run.

So, i hit the wall
IxGM168.png

Snow Witches give me no trouble whatsoever. Firewall melts them instantly.
Steel Lords on the other hand? They appear to be immune to fire and none of my other spells deal anywhere enough damage. Literaly nothing in my arsenal can handle a crowd of them.
I could probably handle them if i had a few more levels in my Golem or Chain Lightning spell. I had a bit rotten luck when it came to finding certain spellbooks and that witch never has what i actually want. Chain bolts is my only non-fire spell that is not at level 1 and it shots are too unreliable and low damage.

I really don't want to start all over again in the hope that next time the game will give me the spellbooks i want.
At least i saw succubus ass

Always hated doing this kind of shit
Well, that's Diablo for you. You grind shit, you sell shit, you get shit you want as quick as you can. The fact you don't usually need to do any of that in order to go through single player on normal almost feels like a coincidence.

I think I killed them with mostly Turn to Stone and then whacking with staff.

If there is one thing Diablo managed to teach me is that seeing enemies with
Resistant: Fire, Immunity: Lightning
or
Resistant: Lightning, Immunity: Fire
makes me like :x
Some might say i should just keep resummoning my golem while i sit in the corner huffing mana potions like a crackhead. Or, like Cyberarmy sugested, i should abuse the stone curse more and whack them with my stick. Sure, after a few years i would eventually kill them all.
To which my answer is, again :x

You know what, i am going to abandon my playthrough right here, right at the final level.
Let the Diablo win his sin war or whatever, fuck this piece of shit game. I am not going to complete you just out of spite.
I would give it :4/5: or :3.5/5: , not the kind of game one would want to play again but it's nice to try at least once. I can listen to the Tristan theme forever.

Being a caster against heavily protected and powerful melee enemies sucks, doesn't it?

The music is definitely my favorite part about Diablo, even if there're not that many soundtracks. Wasn't fan of gameplay because the combat is slow and awkward, with not that many options in how you approach it. If I want to play roguelikes, I'd rather just go for those, and the sequel is just so much better.

I'm still playing EYE Divine CYbermancy occasionally. I don't know, it's not a bad game but it doesn't click with me.

I finished Inner Chains, I'll eventually write something about the game in the apropriate thread. Immediately started Scorn, but I'm taking a break from that because I decided I'm gonna play mostly RPGs during April.

So I started replaying Avernum 6. I've finished it twice before. This is probably the last time I play it. I always play the Second Avernum Trilogy on Torment (the hardest difficulty).

Honestly, it wouldn't be Diablo without the soundtrack.

Diablo 1 and 2 are unplayable now. Just like original MoM. Not that the remake is much better. They were great for their time but I'm not 7 anymore and this ain't the 90s.

Caster of Magic holds up fine, has minor QoL improvements + game is faster. MoM is just too slow if you aren't abusing early broken summons that can consistently conquer cities with no issues. Any actual back and forth war takes hours for no progress. It doesn't help that base game AI is really awful so its not particularly fun to fight,

Diablo 1 is still great. Still one of the best games of its kind.

Diablo 2 is still OK. It was just overrated from the beginning.
