Why would the marketing focus on this particular plot point for ME2, and not for DA where something similiar could happen AND is in an easier position to actually acknowledge in later content?

It's because ME2's whole hype campaign is about how you're going on a suicide mission so, being insecure, they feel the need to remind everyone that it is actually possible to die in the end even if it requires you to play the game like you have ADD.

Actually, I wonder how many people would have ened up with at least a few dead characters if there was no internet spoilerz, or gamey stuff to do. Like how many people would go straight for ther IFF as soon as they're told where it is. Or skip certain side missions because they dislike certain npcs.

I know my experience in this regard has ben spoiled becaue of spoilers.

A lot of people are no doubt 'gaming' the system. I know that I'm taking care to do EVERYTHING before the IFF mission because of the spoilers. FFS

hell, even with the internetz spoilerz some people - even on the awesome Codex - are reporting 'accidental' deaths wondering what they did wrong.

Fuckin' new age internet. You are so good to us you are so bad to us. FFS

You exaggerate. I didn't have spoilers, I didn't even know that your crew will die if you don't make the loyalty quests. Still, I've been to every planet and made all missions before entering the Omega 4 portal. It's the completist in me. The only thing I did inbetween Omega 4 and the suicide mission was checking out all merchants in the galaxy and buying the upgrades I could afford. And chosing the right guy for the task during the suicide mission is a no-brainer too.

Not eevryone is a completionist. Nor did I say *eevryone* would have dead characetrs left and right. But, let's be fair, more people would end up with dead chaarcters if it wasn't for spoilers. Hell, on the Codex alone where we are all uber gamerz, there were people saying they lost various characters and asking what they fucked up.

No doubt there'd be more victims without the internetz.

"And chosing the right guy for the task during the suicide mission is a no-brainer too."

Common sense, yeah, but not everyone has common sense or they think theya re too kewl for skewl and do stuff differently for shits and giggles. Plus, not every npc has to be recruited in the first place ie. Legion and he's found on the main storyline. LMFAO

P.S. "I didn't have spoilers, I didn't even know that your crew will die if you don't make the loyalty quests."

I gotta call bullshitz on this. As a Codexer who likely read all pre ME2 release threads you were likely spoiled to a high degree.

Stop the bullshitz start the truthz!

Actually, running through just the main quest and not doing any side missions and no upgrades and doing the final mission is a pretty fucking hilarious.

And worth it too, in that you can then re-play that character and you get a crap load of resources and money so you don't have to mine so much.

Ok I don't remember 100% whether (or how much) I was spoiled. But I had the game preordered so I played it pretty early. At least I think I didn't know that it was the loyalty quest which are a decisive factor. But honestly, if you talk to your crew - something that I do - how likely is it you don't make their quests?

And worth it too, in that you can then re-play that character and you get a crap load of resources and money so you don't have to mine so much.

That's one of the best advantages. I only had to mine for a bit platinum, for everything else the resources sufficed already. Otoh you have zero character advancement in the second run since you cap at 30, which is not exactly exciting.

Final mission is a pretty good retardo test. :incline: If player did all the upgrades/loyalties and still managed to lose companions unintentionally - then facepalm on him/her. They probably didn't even bother to read the descriptions and assigned squad leaders/specialists randomly.

True, true. Good thing I passed with flying colours - nobody dead - huh? That's why I'm a Pretty Princess and NOT a Dumbfuck or 'retardo'.

An interesting tidbit for the end mission 'hold the line' part whcih is where some people are crying about so called 'random' deaths.

"Dusty Everman wrote...

Mordin's death is not a glitch or bug. I believe that when people are surprised with Mordin's death, it's during the "Hold the Line" time where you leave crew behind as you and two squad mates move onward. Tech had their moment in the sun with the tunnel infiltration. A biotic is key for the protective bubble. The Hold the Line sequence is time for your soldier types to do their best.

Basically you want your best DEFENDERS to hold the line. Don't think about offensive solo strikers. Think about the guys that can dig down and hold a position with moxie. You want them to hold the line.

Under the hood, each character has a "hole the line" score, which gets a bonus if the character is loyal. Characters like Mordin, Jack and Tali are squishy and not exoeruenced with bunkering down and holding out for an extended period of time. Characters like Grunt and Zaeed are tanks who thrive on this type of work. The score is tallied for all the team members that are holding the line, and the number of survivors are calculated. If people are to die, the non-loyals squishies go first through the list to the loyal tanks. Alas, I think Mordin is at the head of the death list. Some characters can't survive without help even if they are loyal. Others can survive even if not loyal.

Here are some examples for the group holding the line:
Loyal Mordin by himself: He can't hold the line by himself. He dies.
Non-loyal Grunt by himself: Grunt lives. He hunkers down and gets the job done, and doesn't have to worry about helping any one else.
Loyal Mordin and non-Loyal Grunt: Grunt dies, but Mordin lives. Grunt is able to hold the line but goofs up helping Mordin... he was just too aggressive without his right of passage.
Loyal Mordin and Loyal Grunt: They both live.

Note it is possible to get non-loyal henchmen to survive through the end game with the proper group holding the line.

So what is a good strategy? Send back a loyal squishy with the crew, like Mordin or Tali. Leave your defensive bad asses to hold the line (hmmm, Garrus defended a base all by himself to an extended period of time....) and take your loyal offensive favorites with you to the end.

As for saving Kelly and the crew, you just need to make sure you go through the Omega-4 relay right after the crew is taken, and make sure you send a loyal squad mate back as an escort."

Nice find.

Odd thing tho', I had everyone's loyalty, yet Mordin still died. I took that it was for the same reasons stated by Everman. Still, have to admit that I thought it was a bug at first(until I received reports that other people experienced something similiar), because it was a bit of a "blink and you'll miss it" moment. I had expected a bigger scene, or at least someone to point out that Mordin died while 'holding the line'.

My entire group was loyal and I did every quest.

Mordin Solus died anyway.

So ya, same here.

Sounds not too convincing. I had Grunt & Thane with me, and send Jacob back as an escort. So all the squishies were there, noone died.

Maybe equipment upgrades factor in too?

Did a quick google. People are pretty much asking about it all over the internet, but there are no clear answers far as I can see.

Did you get Mordin's Omni-Tool upgrade?

Nope. I didn't upgrade any of my squadmembers at all (always used Garrus and Grunt, and besides the Krogan shotgun, I didn't find any tech for them).

You just have to ask him about upgrades. I had his upgrade btw, also Jacks biotics upgrade.

For those two I meant. I did have Mordin's available, I just didn't research. Figured it was a moot point since I never took him along on missions. Guess it wasn't.
