If the writing in the book is even remotely similiar to what is found in The Twitcher or if Gerlat comes across as the same loser in the novels then yeah the book is garbage.
So you guys haven't even read the books, yet you are first to judge. Oh how silly.

And how can the writing in the book and in the game be similar? The former was written by an award winning author, and the latter was written by a guy at CD Projekt. CD Projekt only used the Witcher universe, and characters in the game, but they have written the story themselves.
The writing in the game is better than the books.

1. true
2. It is a generic fantasy world, just uses some of Slavic mythology. Also I'd pick Feist's Midkemia anytime. It's more detailed and politically consistent.
3. true
4. Betrayal at Krondor, Arcanum, Fallout 1&2, Bloodlines.

My, those screens look even shittier than I remembered. Anyone got some more recent shots?
Have some new Derp Roads

Since it went gold Friday they'll upload some DX11 screens soon enough. I imagine it'll look like this but maybe if you hold up a magnifying glass you'll notice a tiny difference. Their priorities are definitely in the right places, yes.

DA2 looks plastic. TW2 is gritty.
TW2 also looks plastic, but it's more aesthetically pleasing and detailed aside from the bloom: http://tw2.thewitcher.com/#gallery/0_1

I gather my friend you read one of those translating disasters that were called the Last Wish and the Blood of the Elves (Elven Blood motherfuckers!)... When others say that the best parts from TW1 came from the books they really mean it.

4. Betrayal at Krondor, Arcanum, Fallout 1&2, Bloodlines.

1. It's pointless to argue. Let's say they are best each in his own category.

2. It would have been a generic fantasy world had it not been for stress on political, social and economic contexts and true to life (rather than larger than life) characters.

Also I would agree about Feist's Midkemia if we stuck to three first books (4 in Poland). After that Feist went full speed into derp-land (save Betrayal at Krondor episode - but it was a better game than a novel).

3. Agreed.

4. Agreed. Also MotB by far and even Icewind Dale II (derp).

Pfft.. Tolkein invented generic fantasy. What did Sapkowski do? Make mature grim dark Elves and add hawt sex?

Well, I wish generic fantasy had the form Tolkien invented... not some D&D random adventures with elves, dwarves and dragons.

Basically, when I think generic I don't think Tolkien.

Preordered Witcher, just for the no-DRM concept :M

Now i am getting Gothic 2 gold and 16 bucks to spend on Icewind Dale or maybe Space Rangers 2.

Problem, Bioware?

Barren battlefield - check.
Big sword - check.
Big ugly monster - check.

Which is better and why? Volourn, please reply :smug: Seriously, is DA2 being relesed on PSP also? I don't see why they couldn't do that.

No he didn't , he riped-off European mythology especially Scandinavian and Christianized it into good and evil.

The Witcher books read like scripts for movies.

The Witcher game has much more going on, and a different feel about it, almost folkish in its telling.

As if Scandinavian mythologies weren't Christianized into good and evil already. Tolkien was basically a modern Skald who popularized the concept that anyone can create a mythological canon from scratch, which definitely led to the creation of generic fantasy by providing a basic template for the genre.

Funny how biofags can't even post in-game screenshots.
