To add to above.

Buying and outfitting your own M7 in X3 or Xtended it was real achievement and you feel like you can now take whole world. Here getting cap ship is normal and frankly speaking game is all about cap ships which also don't cost a lot.

Enemies spawn only if you are around some sector. Want to escort your own trader ? Bad luck with you being there enemies will spawn and will bust out your trader. If you won't escort it then trader will safely reach trading spot.
Heh. That's kind of a tradition in X games. The best way to do escort missions is to stay the fuck out of the sector where they are supposed to happen.

But yes, that's not exactly an achievement that this is still broken as ever.

Xtended mod for x3 tc mostly fixed that. Way battles are calculated though offscreen was retarded and that didn't change here.

OOS combat is mostly just based on dice rolls, they had to do it that way because your computorz would fry from trying to calculate hundreds of sectors in real time in detail. And it was a good thing because the AI for in-sector battles was completely useless anyway.

In all the X3's (X3, TC, AP), if you have AI ships protecting a freighter and you're in the same sector, it's best to hit Shift+J and GTFO pronto and watch the pirates melt away from another sector because if you stayed in the sector their puny M4 fighters would likely take down your super-expensive fully-armed M6 escort corvette AND your super-expensive XL freighter full of microchips before you can even reach them.

The combat mechanics of X3 are really fucked IMO, the shields are about as effective mosquito nets. In X2 (which I consider the best in the series), there was no way in hell a single fighter could take down an M6.

Which is why i say Xtended mostly fixed it. In xtended m3 can't kill m6. You need squadron of fully equiped with military grade anticap hardware m3s.

Also i loved in Xtended to drop with my light carrier somewhere start shit with my sqadron of m3 and jump away before m6 would come

I see old-time fans rejecting Rebirth for being too easy or streamlined but they would not be a flaw on my end, and I am tempted to get this after the Elite Dangerous disaster.

Is it recommended for someone looking for a simple space combat game with eye-candy exploration, or is it still tedious and work-like? I also heard it was buggy and unfinished, and that it just wasn't very good in its own right even for someone looking for a simple easy game. How is it now?

Have said it multiple times already.
It is (despite the name) not an X game.
If you are looking for an X Game, stay away.

It is however, in its current state, a game you can have fun with if you just want to derp around in Space.
Try it out before you buy it, there should be a Demo.

Definitely worth the buy. Ignore all the butthurt "fanboys" (loosely said, majority probably started the series with x3 or later), who were too retarded to read the previews and what the game was all about. Its lots of fun and looks great.

i couldn't care less about what saga a game belongs to. hell, i was pissing my pants waiting for the never-to-be x-com alliance. and i devour everything with starships and lasers. everything. it's just a compulsory need i must satisfy.
still x stillbirth is one of the worst games i've ever played. easily on par with fahrenheit or infinite biocock, i had to remove it from my hd nauseated, even if this mind illness of me wanted to keep playing it was just too much a hurtful and awful experience to have.

Whats is so fun about it? Beside the great environments, and exploring a retarded static scripted universe with a console UI in a single ship? Without the modders, this company would be bankrupt. Most of their updates are a collection of mods beside additional graphics, maps... Also SETA was a huge retarded script, but due to shit design, was necessary. I like more a booster, and the lanes copied from Freelancer in which of course they were better. But freelancer had a faster sublight travel speed thingy, which worked well for exploring... If you are incapable of setting new heights, look at what others did right.

When not even Perkel doesnt like the game, which is the most forgiving fanboy around here, you know that CONDUCTOR WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

You earned your tag. GG! I also loved you arguments for "Definitely worth the buy". Next time try "I know the game has many flaws, but i enjoy it because x,y,z. You might too, if you like features like 1,2,3,4,5".

Damn, you must be desperate.

The issues with X: Afterbirth are inbuilt. No amount of patches or mods will fix them.

This. Performance, bugs, crashes etc were just part of it while main dish was game design. Sure they added ability to not get on foot all the time and added actual small ships to the game but still management is woefull, world is small, highways are annoying (but better than what was on release), lack of weapons and missles, lack of ability to outfit yourself ships, minigames that are plain bad and so on.

Rumor goes they work on proper X4 on X:Rebirth engine. Hopefuly they will add DX12 support to it because game absolutely needs it.

Just try the Demo.
All you will get here are the same answers by peoples who haven't tried the game in it's current state or people who still compare it to other X Games.

It's imho a simple question that you need to ask yourself:
Is flying a single ship a dealbraker for you?

I could have fun with Rebirth, but the Skunk is just not my type of vessel.
To slow, not agile enough and heavily lacking firepower.
I need my Split-Style Ships.

If Eve didn't annoy you to hell, try Elite.
Though that game is exceptionally shitty if you dislike Eurotrucker or have no People to fly with.
Together with a regular Wing it's fun though.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The recent steam reviews look rather positive. How is capital ship combat handled there?
I don't mind not playing the helmsman, but what do you do instead? Can you order crew around? Give accurate ship commands?

You don't control personally big ships. Since release they added fleet management and strike groups do work.
Mind you, you need proper PC to play it. I have i5-3470 and HD7970 and on average in busy sectors i get 25-35 fps

I've only played X2 where building a huge economy is pointless other than having big assets, you can't join a faction to conquer another faction (it is not the goal of the game) or wipe out the respawning Xenons. I suppose there are mods to do so but it is many years ago.
For X3 and sequels Albion, Terran Conflict, Reunion, is there a point to build a huge economy?

IN X3 albion there's an end game building to repair you will need many factories to manage it. Else its for the beauty of it , owning sectors seeing your ships transporting goods, patrolling and defending it.If only x rebirth had expanded on it instead of castrating and mainstreaming everything.

I mean at point where you have empire you set your own goals. In X3TC-Xtended (which is what you should play) i basically work toward fielding my own industry complex when i can build my own small to medium ships and from that point i start to pick sides in conflicts ultimately choosing which factions i target and work toward that goal. In Xtended there is a lot of free unocupied space after a while so it isn't like you need to beat anyone to start building and fighting at the same time.

I think most fun i had in X3TC-Xtended was when i choose starting as pirate and basically be only allied with fucking Yaki or something. I had to actively attack transports going through non alligned regions, board ships and so on to build my empire as in almost all sectors i was target and since i could properly build trust i couldn't get blueprints for many ships.

Sounds like it's still early in development, can they stay afloat with the Stillbirth monies (lol) in the mean time?
