The economy seems pretty broken. You do a bunch of missions like fixing leak on a station or transporting a guy and then you can buy giant cargo vessel. At this point every engineer should be a millionaire. To be honest the missions seem poorly balanced, not the economy per say.

My take as well. Some of them can payout easily 300k + loot which can be sold for another 300k though they take some time to do stuff. Well at least it is not like in X3 where missions paid basically nothing and by the end of mission you were most of the time in red and buying first M4 was a fucking few hours of grinding.

That stuff can be easily modded though considering what was in X-rebirth (it has same modding resources etc)

edit:

Magpie or Tethys ships have broken UI and they can't trade or mine.
Egosoft said they will fix this in next patch. So don't buy them for now.

The hell????

Did you actually play X3?

Missions paid MILLIONS pretty soon. It's how it was actually possible to buy M2 and M1's in a reasonable period unlike in X2. At least in AP it was.

I did play a bit but pretty much installed X-tended after 30-40 hours and never looked back at vanilla.
I was strictly speaking about beginning of the game.

edit:

- i found piratebase and i can sell all illegar wares there without issue. [Grand Exchange III]. Though if it is anything like X3 those pirate bases could spawn somewhere else in your game.
- Nice stuff: You can queue shitload of tasks to ships without limit. Also ships keep virtual store meaning that when you give order to buy something ship will know that it will have such stuff in cargo when you give next order to sell and this works on multiple orders. So for example you can stock up on Medical Wares in one sector and then give order for each station to trade wares and ship will correctly keep track of virtual cargo.

I just started the game and a ship landed near mine. I went into the cockpit wandering if I could steal the ship. I am in the cockpit and the guy closes the door and takes off leaving me going for a joy ride.

Were you the guy who left a Steam review outlining that exact same situation? If so, you made me laugh. If not, a lot of people are getting kidnapped out there.

Eh, bought a Magpie for a second ship, which magically disabled the trading menu for *all* ships and stations. Even though I'm not actually flying the Magpie. Apparently this affects the Magpie and Tethys ships, so if you suddenly stop being able to trade with stations make sure you don't own one of those ships.

Is

Like
X
X2
Or X3?

Or it is like Stillbirth with mods. Simple question.

Just played it a bit, Hotas warthog is working but i understand why people had trouble with configuration. You can load profiles however none of them work, simply cause the order of the devices connected( a different submenu) is not the same as the default profile saved. For some reason it put a Xbox 360 controller as first although i had none connected. Then only the hotas and rudder. You need to empty the pad slot and put the hotas/throttle first, then only load the default profile. Also print a schematic with the button numbers cause its hell to configure , menu is as austere as X3 and likely even more deep.
Seems back to the root and not for casuals, a good thing.

You start the game with an Elite (M3) If I'm not mistaken.

U guys have the M3s and M6s ships yet?

Yeah there are 3 starts:

- argon with elite
- paranid with their fighting ship
- and chick with discoverer

apperently you can unlock more starts as you play game.
Someone already made mod that enables you locked trading start that is tied to achievement.

How is the actual space combat? Is it fun or just something you do when enemies get in the way of your business operations?
The early ship combat is pretty dreadful because everyone else is flying way nicer ships than you and its near impossible to actually hit shit because they go so much faster than you. I've had my afterburner lock up on me a few times during combat, no reason for it. The UI doesn't explain much at all. I found the weapon charging icon a bit shit compared to X3 where each weapon had its own unique icon and bar, in this you've got a weird icon that doesn't explain shit beyond a bar that you assume is for overheating or something (whereas in X3 its the power output of the weapon). The weapons at least gimble unlike in X3 where you manually had to line shit up so at least that's not a problem here. I could see the combat being really fun with a faster ship and more weapons but this starter ship is truly bad which might explain why some people are being put off from the game so early.

I will say the station UIs make 0 fucking sense. There is nearly 0 reason to actually get out of your ship, it has the identical issue that Rebirth had where station walking is completely pointless. All the NPCs say the same shit and every station is copy-paste for their interiors. Ship interiors are at least nicer than the stations and I feel they're comfy.

I've yet to figure out how to get my captains to do shit. This is a function that is poorly explained. I was hoping my co-pilot would act like an autopilot while I walked off and got comfy in the back seat. But I can't make sense of it.
The UI is dreadful. Somehow they've managed a worse UI than X3 which is shocking because X3's UI was bad.

I will say as much as I'm harsh on this, the game seems midway between Rebirth and X3. There's great elements from X3 that I'm seeing. But there's also the really lame shit from Rebirth that I'm seeing as well.
Keep in mind this is from a few hours of playing.

Is there any way to speed up travel? because my Travel drive is soooo slow. 2500ms is fuck all especially when this game has no time compression. As such you're just staring at blank stars for hours while your Autopilot gets to its destination.

The tutorial sucks. It doesn't even highlight the UI element its indicating so you just kinda have to guess what its talking about.

Elite was an M4+ in X3. The Nova was the standard M3.
My bad

Yep. Just got the game and it does seem to be like X3 at launch, meaning shit makes zero sense and is janky as hell.

Good to see Egosoft listens to the fans.

We WANT to land on planets, we DON'T WANT TO walk around sterile, identical space stations.

I just started new game again and i noticed that where stations are placed is generated each time new game starts.
Sectors are more or less the same but stations are different.

----------------------------------------------------

Figured out how to hire captains pilots etc.

1. You can just hire crewmen when you buy or upgrade your ship. It is just one of the tabs
2. You can hire "crewmen" on stations.

In both cases those people can be assigned to a role of your choosing. So someone can be pilot, captain, serviceman etc.
Each of them also have their own skills which grow over time. So if you place dude in pilot seat his skills in that aspect will grow etc.

It was confusing af because there was actually no tutorial for it. Then when i found it i could assign anything because i had to first click on ship on left menu and then you will be able to choose a role crewmate will play as.

Even the tutorials that do exist are buggy as shit tbh.

Just like X3.

For ordering your ships around, you basically select the ship in the map interface then right-click anywhere else on the map to bring up the orders menu. E.g. right-click a station to make it dock there. Careful though, since every order is automatically queued and not removed until you manually pick 'remove all orders'(or the ship actually completes an order).

The autopilot is rather bad in this game I think. You can activate the autopilot and then the fast travel mode. It sometimes work okay... fails a lot in asteroid fields though. But the sensible thing would be for the autopilot to automatically activate fast travel mode. Maybe some kind of upgrade is necessary?

Seems like the game DOES have time compression.

Shift-F4 is listed as SETA mode. So presumably you have to buy a SETA (time compression) upgrade somewhere, like it was in all the actual X games.

Cautiously expecting incline from this one.

The docking upgrades are worth the money btw. The docking minigame becomes piss easy when fully upgraded. You can just drift into dock instead of having to line up the stupid indicators. Stupid redundant feature they copied from Elite Dangerous. But yeah if you find docking a pain in the ass highly recommend getting the software upgrades for it.

question and its not documented for me but. How the fuck does the Shift+2 Scan mode work. I can figure out long range scanning, but can't make sense of short ranged.
Fly close to stations, it reveals more info about them (each section unlocks a percentage).

It's one of the cancerfeatures left over from Stillbirth.

Oh wow, software upgrades take a minute.

I'm sure that's one of the """charming"" features inherited from Stillbirth.

There was no wait for software upgrade in abortion.
Also it is not specific to software. E ery single update takes minute.
