Silicon is for chumps. nVidium is where it's at.
I always found nividium very slow. The supply of nividium is also much more limited, so nividium mining doesn't scale up especially well. And large miners seem to be incompetent with regard to nividium, for what it's worth--probably because nividium deposits are so small that collecting it requires an unusual amount of movement. If you do mine nividium, small ships are best.

I guess I'm more of an AMD guy, after all. YMMV.

Of course, eventually silicon's price will bottom out in your area too, so at some point you'll have to start assigning miners to ore. Then some gas miners. Then perhaps consolidate your miners under a small station's management (just a dock with storage). And at some point after that, you can build your first factory, for which you'll already have a mining supply chain ready, etc. On that note, and this is addressed to Old One, obviously--you might start looking into a stockpile of EMP bombs for the blueprint grind.

Hell no, you just need to find good sources. There's a nearly limitless supply in one system for example, but it's pirate or Khaaaaaaaak controlled, you need to blast them first.

Price in your area? I'm so glad I started my game before all these faggot nerfs kicked in, when I started you could just set and forget autominers and they would eventually gain enough experience to sell their shit anywhere. Instead of the laughable 3 gates away they have now. Universe Traders were a big thing from X2 onwards but they removed it in 4 in some patches. Now you have to mod it back in.

But then again, they made the game much more noob friendly in other ways, so whatever.

I nearly got X3 once it had a bunch of mods. But figured I would wait for Rebirth. Then Rebirth sounded bad so I figured I would wait for X4. But this one sounds pretty weak too so I'll just wait for the next one.

Stillbirth was a fucking abomination and everyone should forget it existed.

X4 is like X3 with better graphics and interface, a smaller universe, some "quality of life" features missing, and retarded "highways" added.

Oh and completely different models and design philosophies for all ships and stations for some reason. It's not quite as good as X3 but it's nearly there. Fleet battles are way better.

As well as the new version of the Star Wars mod (it was finished for 7.0 last week but they decided to wait to make sure it's compatible with 7.1 instead of trying to rush out a patch)

I hope they kept it to actual Star Wars tho, not the Disney woke wars.

Would people that watch and, what's even a more disgusting thought, enjoy the Disney wars be able to create a mod with actual content?

I was very interested in this when it was on sale, but I opted against it because I've been watching Perun's run of the game and honestly, the game seems really railroady compared to X3.
I think I should just stick with X3 for now. Shame because the Boron redesign is cute af. But yeah it doesn't feel like a sandbox the way X3 did, it feels like you're being pushed towards unlocking sectors before the bigger game opens up and as far as I'm aware they require player intervention which I think is just lame. It also looks a hell of a lot easier than X3 was.

Maybe they made a mistake in having made X3 too good lol because I'm just not motivated to trade up yet.

It doesn't seem that railroady to me, really. It's one of those games where you get lots of missions, and the people who give you the missions are telling you how important they are, but in reality you can ignore them and do what you want until you feel like doing them.

The Timelines expansion is definitely an exception though. You start out trapped in one place, and before you can escape to the larger game you must complete a long series of missions, some of which are quite difficult. It's the kind of thing you'll probably play once and never again.

Does this have good mods yet? I heard LitCube or something is good for X3 but I never tried it. I figured I would get this once it has mods and updates. My PC probably can't handle it though.

Spot on. It's X3 for kids. You can choose to ignore the railroading andgo out on your own, but thats basically punishing yourself since the game is laughably easy by following the missions, where if you don't, it takes long to make serious moolah.

No the full thing is open from the start. Unless you're dumb enough to do a Terran start.

Oh GOD YES. And X3 was already easy with the crazy high payouts from missions, and the stonk market (which X4 doesn't have by the way).

X3 took years to be good tho, it sucked at launch. Then when they finally perfected it they faceplanted HARD with an attempted console cash-in. Stillbirth screwed them up good. They're still trying to get X4 up to the level of polish (not to mention content lol) of X3:AP

Honestly it isn't so railroad. Sure it is very easy to start some quest chains but so was starting such chains in X3 (unmodded). Unlike X3 TC AP also X4 doesn't shower you with loot as much so following them is mostly an expense not benefit. Sure you get occasionally some small ship or two but it isn't like X3 TC where you suddenly get destroyer.

X3 difficulty was completely frontloaded + a lot of it came from just X3 being broken. I can't curse enough how many times my armada took loses because AI couldn't fly for shit in group. It wasn't until some guy finally released mod for LCU that it was backported to more mods finally mostly fixing poor AI smashing into each other.

X3 vanilla is pretty mediacore it is the mods like XTC or LCU that take it to next level mostly fixing rough edges, giving end game etc.

X4 has multiple start options. Some are completely open, others dump you at the start of a quest chain (most of which you can pause at almost any time). You can even make your own start both unlimited and "budgeted" which limits your starting points based on how much you've accomplished in previous playthroughs but keeps achievements open.

I have to say Im really disappointed in Timelines. Mind you the sandbox experience is fun the extras you get in the from new DLC are nice. But man, racing, timed stealth missions, escort missions and overall just combat slog with no variety, is not fun.
I hope somone comes out with a mod that just unlocks the sandbox content without having to do Timelines DLC missions. How could they misread their audience so bad? Originally I thought they would show us scripted important key events from X1-X3 to flesh out lore. Instead we got this mess, just vau.

I wonder if this is training or something for X5.

The X:Rebirth issue was that they tried to do everything at once. Completely changing engine, cinematics, FPS, completely new systems like highways, pad support, complete ui rework and so on. etc. Ton of things got cut like small ships not being present in game. For game ups like stations, ship designs etc. there were 10 other downs like bugs, only one player controlled ship, retarded story, fps walking that was horrid, super poor performance and so on.

All of that on shoestring budget and like 15 devs.

Now with X4 they have pretty much everything in place. Game looks good, plays well but there is no proper "hook" for casuals which Rebirth tried to do. They obviously tried stories in game and different starts but that's not the same thing as one central story for casuals to follow.
And I think that is what Timelines tries to do. Effectively tutorial for devs on how to make story, missions.

They said they will do 8.0 but i think they are already working on X5 which imho will be just X4 + big narrative story + coat of paint. Kind of like X3TC and AP were.

Could be, but I think they are going for wrong direction then. Their strength has always been sandbox play, until Timelines most of the DLC have been A grade, they all add in one way or another something to sandbox. Honestly their story telling sucks, if Im being honest.

I mean yeah, egosoft always sucked at telling stories.

I wonder with additional money from X4 if they studio grew. The issue with delivering stories etc is that you need more people than 10 german engineers hacking the code and the reason why egosoft sucks at storytelling etc. is because they don't have people for that so it is mostly engineers writing stories, diagloues etc.

How is this game doing? Currently has 70% off. And X3 is about a dolla.

X4 base is around 7/10
X4 with addons around 9/10

With every new addon base game is also upgraded but new content is those addons expand galaxy and add factions so it is very important to get them for proper experience.
