I have a question Bubbles: why did you have to play the game so much, and write such a massive review to explain that Bethesda are a bunch of retarded mooks that make games for a general public of retarded mooks?

Is this some kind of ironic post-modern thing?

Regardless, great review, and I agree that Bethesdas total overhaul of the Special system was the only clever thing about this game, except they messed up the balance for it, as you say.

Because unless you try to prove your point your argument is as credible as Bethestard screaming FO4 the best game ever to people that is neither codexer or bethestards, fuck wit.

Codex should start rating these games. Then you can get on Metacritic and fuck with these companies by bringing down their ratings.

Go back and assign ratings to all your reviews, then everyone email Metacritic.

And Metacritics will respond that your publication is not prestigious enough to be included in the rating because you didn't send the required amount of US dollars.

Were you born like yesterday or something?

Falllout 4 is not per se a bad game. Just a bad RPG and and a disastrous Fallout game. If you want to play a long shooter with looting and very light RPG-mechanics (and maybe built some houses and shit) for an hour every few days it's ok. If you can forget that it is supposed to be Fallout... it has it's moments.

Yes, it has - and this is none of them.

Having played it, that was the only moment worth recording. So not sure which game you were playing that had a lot of moments other than that. Feel free to post the videos, maybe I missed them since I still can't be arsed to finish this game despite restarting twice (and enduring that fucking dull opening).

I said nothing of "lots of" moments - just moments. Not every hour - but here and there. Some fights for example are quite fun, blasting through hordes of ghouls with 2 or 3 bosses for example, limbs flying, ghouls screeching. That's what I remember vaguely to be fun sometimes. Nothing like story, conversation, random loot or nearly everything else that could be related to an rpg.

Then why does it fail as a shooter too?

Why should one care about metacritic? A single number without distribution is not that informative as a general aggregated measure of 'quality' of a game. More importantly, why should one care about the opinion of those whose tastes are very different from oneself?

I'd rat rather follow and engage the flamewar discussion about cRPGs around here than try to extract quality info from where it is not available.

Why should one care about metacritic?

Because the AAA publishers and developers do.

Much easier to fuck with them using Metacritic. Majority of these tards create games to make Metacritic reviewers happy since they want to plaster that score on the box or site (not to mention, it's shown on Steam).

Agreed, in an alternate universe where Bethesda did not have the Fallout license this would just be an ok AAA game for some fun derpy pew pew, its really no better or worse than the other triple A rubbish being made nowadays. The reason we have all this angst and nerd rage is due to it being called "Fallout".

But why do you care? AAAs are not going to make games you like no matter what.

It does not fail as a looter shooter. Or more precise, open world looter shooter. Not many such around (unless they are crafter survivor versions) and it is decent as such.

As other said, it being marketed as a RPG and then a RPG in Fallout world is the main problem.

No. STALKER does a better job, other AAA open world shooters do a better job, such as the new Far Cries.

Oh, it is about that every part alone is done better in various other games and F4 is not a best of?

I tried playing STALKER, it is a different game than Fo4 and it is not a better looter shooter, just a better shooter.

The thing that's really weird though? Bethesda has spent BIG money getting top-notch writers in to try and improve their writing (getting Brian from V:TmB was one well-known example, but there's been a whole stream of them - it's clear that they've known it's a weakness and have been desperately trying to improve it for 10 years now). And they've consistently failed, to the point where almost all of their big-money writing hires do one game, then leave for far less certain job prospects and definitely lesser pay.

That tells me that there's something truly structurally wrong with their writing development. That it isn't just a matter of intent - if they didn't want to be doing 100x better, they wouldn't have been hiring these guys - but something in their development system itself.

For a while you could blame the open world gamestyle. But after FO:NV and Witcher 3, that doesn't fly anymore. Ok, I'll accept Witcher 3 as the kind of insane project that will never be the norm for a major studio, but FO:NV was a 'project to contract', made to budget, none of the endless time/budget to handcraft to insane detail a massive open world that Witcher 3 had - it had a good-but-not-alltime-great studio working on about the same budget that Bethesda would have given themselves to produce an expansion pack, and the difference in writing quality is astonishing. Sure, Obsidian has always has writing as one of its main strengths, but still - it's not like they had MCA on board in a major way apart from Dead Money (which is really like a mini-AMAZING-AWESOME game that happens to be a DLC for FONV rather than indicative of FO:NV itself, which is Sawyer through and through (lot's of logic, good DMing, good setting, no real art to it).

B. Mitsoda worked for Bethesda? When? On FO4?

it's not like they had MCA on board in a major way apart from Dead Money (which is really like a mini-AMAZING-AWESOME game that happens to be a DLC for FONV rather than indicative of FO:NV itself, which is Sawyer through and through (lot's of logic, good DMing, good setting, no real art to it).

MCA was the lead designer for all of the F:NV DLCs except Honest Hearts, which was Sawyer's. Besides that he also wrote Rose of Sharon Cassidy companion, and, of course, the entire game was based on ideas from the cancelled Van Buren project, where he was more heavily involved.
