You may have noticed the Codex starting to get a bit slow and unresponsive at times. That's (partly) because it is time <pause for dramatic effect> to get a new server.

It costs a few thousand a year to keep this place going, which we usually cover between donations and HAVE YOU SEEN THIS AWESOME ONLINE CASINO ads, as well as a spattering of poorly paid other ads you see about the place for those few of you who don't use ad-blockers.

We also want to migrate to the snappier XenForo 2 forum software which will mean a lot of work behind the scenes just to make everything look and work like it currently does (mostly) BUT UPGRADES YAY.

So we're drawing some extra attention to our annual fund-raiser and letting you know we're looking to raise $5k USD this year. That should cover a bunch of upgrades we want to do, get us migrated to XF2, and run the place for a few more years until we repeat the process in the never-ending need to keep upgrading things because programmers like to completely change how they do things every five years or so. This is also why most banks still run on COBOL.

To incentivize you, dear reader, to cough up a portion of your Government COVID cheque during the apocalypse, everyone who donates over $100 (clarification, any multiple of $100, eg donate $200 and you get 2x) we are developing a special physical reward. It might be a special Codex t-shirt. It might be a USB drive. It might be a bottle of Chris Avellone's bath water. We don't know yet, we're still working that out (it'll depend on item design, cost and postage). But we'll let you know.

Holy fuck 100 USD it's just under half of my monthly income. But it certainly does sounds cheap to have a little of Chris Avellone's bath water, huuuum... Well shit, I need to eat so no holy water for me, sucks for me to have been born in the wrong (and fucked) place in the world. If it serves as compensation, I turned off the adblock here on Codex - the highest honor ever granted by my browser.

Is there a timeframe for this fundraiser? Or does it last until we scrounge up the funds?

My tone isn't mean, I am interested in the T-Shirt/USB drive, just a bit tight this month.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Btw DarkUnderlord you seriously need to add more payment options, for our convenience and your future. Coz we all know it's only a matter of time before PayPal declares Codex a far-right gamer militia and stop servicing us. All the other cool nazis already have Revolut, Paysafecard, crypto etc.

This isn't just FUD. We need a way to donate with crypto.

I donated as much as I'm willing to pay for a computer game.

We need to make Codex a secret, never talk about it in the public, keep it away from prying eyes of mainstream, like a Fight Club only for autistic nerds.
