I'll give it a shot, but holy crap, 3.5 GBs of data for a demo? That does not instill me with confidence in this game's quality.
Why did we change our name? It's a complicated story. Originally, Brrapp was a silly word that represented a fun, goofy identity. Nowadays the word has become associated with motorcycles and guns, two things that we may enjoy, but two things that don't represent what Brrapp Games was about (namely Old-School video game fun).
Yeah, sure, that's why...

Gave it fifteen minutes, not because its bad or anything, I'm liking it so far. It crashed on me, which is a good sign. Very unfinished Unity-esque experience. Runs slow in the big open area, but gets to a comfortable amount of frames in the less busy interiors. Like real slow, holding the forward key for a second means a full half minute of walking. Probably just Unity working as intended. Looks nice, except the people. They look like the people in MM9, except higher-quality. Not at all what I would say is a game with store-bought assets by one person, if I didn't know that was the case. Only real problem is by default the game has some kind of tone mapping that makes the game look like constant darkness. Guy knows how to keep a mildly consistent visual-style at least. I still say having a demo at 3.5 GB (7.4 unpacked) is bloated crap no matter how nice it looks.
Character creation is MM through and through, the magic might have funny names, there might be something called an automata, but its MM. Four characters, each with their selection of 5 skills and twenty attribute points. Like Strength, smarts, spirit. MM stats renamed. I don't know what the higher masteries (or whatever this game is going to call it) do, because the box that shows up when I right click has freaking massive text. You'd think the guy could get it since MM6 didn't have that problem. Oh, well. Portraits and names don't matter because the portrait you'll actually look at is the default and the names seem to only show up on the stats screen. Some of the skills don't give default items, unfortunately.
Gameplay, didn't reach combat, moving is fine, turning overly fast, jumping like Tomb Raider 1. Very high, almost as high as a building. I hope he keeps that at least. No way to change any of that yet. Will report back if I reach combat.
TL;DR: Its MM9 in Unity. Could go either way. I will remain hopeful.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, there's this obnoxious imitation NES sound effect whenever you acomplish a bit of a question. Also, those spear, despite being in the game, doesn't appear to have any weapons yet. Yay...

How far did you get?

I once read a post by a fellow who claimed that he'd not beaten the game [EoB1] after five years.
I had already completed the game, and back then I assumed that he must of staunchly avoided the clue book, and any BBS info... even so... that is an awfully long time for a game with only twelve maps.

* It's been said that the DOS version was missing the end cinematic due to it not fitting on the disks, and them being okay with it; assuming that not many would complete the game.

If you played the DOS version, then you might not have ever seen the ending, as the DOS version simply ends with the text, and drops back to DOS.

I finished it. I just got more and more stoked as I discovered each level. Maybe took a couple weeks. No clue books or hint line lines. Got fired from my first real job when EotB2 came out. Put it on my laptop for a business trip.

Do not do this.

Sorry about the crash! There was a huge crash bug a little over a month ago that took forever to fix. It's still in development so there's bound to be issues like that. The newest build on itch.io fixed that, though the player portraits (which caused the crash) are still wonky.

You're right that there are no spears in the game. That's still in the works also.

As for the size of the build, that's Unity's doing. can't do much about that, unfortunately.

EDIT: forgot to add that you can turn off Post Processing in the settings. should also improve the framerate. You can also switch to the "classic" control scheme. without naming any other games, I think you can figure out what that is....

Is it just spears and plate armor or are other things not yet implimented?

Figures.

I did turn off whatever the option was in the settings, it was making the game look really dark for some reason. Possibly my graphics card, possibly just Unity being Unity. Having more graphical settings I can crank down to minimum would help, as might a Linux build. *cough* Other than that, I think I'll probably wait a little while before giving the new build a shot, I'm not in the habit of downloading multiple multi-gig games a week.

There's not a lot of graphic options I currently have access to at the moment - but the settings are still very early in development. Plate Armor is in there. you probably just haven't found any yet because it's a higher level item.

You can get a linux build here. It's a bit older than the one you're probably playing, and it's stability is questionable since I only did it for shits and giggles.

I don't blame you for not wanting to give your bandwidth to me. I've been doing a lot of updates lately, but there won't be a new one until the new streaming terrain is finished and working as the demo.

Incidentally, what's your system specs?

Ah, okay, that makes sense...except for being in the starting options.
Okay, well, I guess I'll be giving it another shot then.

More news on Aeolwyn's Legacy!
I know it's been a good while since the last update, and I want you all to know I haven't forgotten about you! I hope you are all staying well!

I've been hard at work setting up the new streaming terrain and updating the demo to work with it. This involved the construction of all new indoor levels (most of the original demo levels were temporary) and lots of new outdoors. The screenshot above is the new dungeon entrance to the Abandon Temple level from the demo.

There's lots of other stuff I've been working on as well - I've spent some time setting up animated portraits (Though I only have artwork for one at the moment) as well as fixing a bunch of loading and saving bugs related to the streaming terrain.

I'm hoping to have a new demo up soon to show off all the hard work, but until then you'll have to make do with the screenshot!

Aeolwyn's Legacy update: One Year Later
e54bf8_b24d2565c87549eea050cfb23d5e84e8~mv2.webp

It's been a year since we released our first video and announced Aeolwyn's Legacy to the world! A lot has happened, so I thought we could take a look back today.

The above screenshot is where AL started - as a third-person action RPG. From there it went to a turn-based 2D game in the vein of Ultima 4 or Questron and looked like the screenshot below:

e54bf8_7b4e8b9803b64e6eae6e3a36bfd036d9~mv2.webp

And then a revelation!

e54bf8_c0c85e1d290d4cedbc90222581d158be~mv2.webp

Finally it ended up as a first-person blobber. Yay! But the UI and various other things made it kind of ugly, so I spent a lot of time this year revamping the UI and generally making things look better!

e54bf8_4bde9a22812547f682502830e82d54cb~mv2.webp

And here's how it's looking today. I'm pretty happy with how it looks, but that's not all that's changed. There's been a lot of bug fixing and work on the combat system, a streaming outdoor, and lots of general polishing.

I had hoped to have Chapter 1 out by now, but with all the revamping and polishing I've had to push that until after Demo v3 has been completed. It's pretty close, but there's still some bugs and polishing to finish up with.

I can't tell you much about Chapter 1, but I can tell you it's titled 'The Tambryne Letter" and will finally take you out of Ableton and to your first large city!

I'm pretty excited about where the game is headed, and I hope you are too!

See you in the next update!
