Didn't he say something like 10 000 would be enough to turn a profit? If so, 1/10 pre-orders maybe aren't such a bad number.
I'm really thinking about a pre-order but that thing about save games that may not be compatible with the full game kind of keeps me from doing it. But maybe I will do it and just wait for the full version to be available before starting, I have a ton of things to do right now on top of a very long list of games to play.

So which would be the best place for preorder? Would that be Steam?

AoD isn't on Steam, currently. You can preorder from the links on their website, here.

You can also pre order it from Gamersgate too, but in this case a small part of the money doesn't drop in Vince's crew pockets

Aren't they greenlit on Steam? Or am I mixing it with something Vault Dweller ?

Edit: Oh yes, I was mixing it with Legend of Eisenwald. The other Vaporware darling of the Codex. :troll:

Age of Decadence was greenlit a long time ago. It's just not available for pre-order on Steam yet.

And VD has already explained (countless times) why this is. InXile and Obsidian are professional full-time studios with dozens of paid employees, who have made games for publishers. AoD has been developed by a few guys working day jobs, doing it in their spare time, who started out with virtually no experience making games and only the passion to make a good RPG. The sheer fact that AoD is still around and set to come out this year is a testament to their passions, do you think "just doing it for money, cause it's a job" people at Obsidian would of had the willpower and passion to make an RPG to make a full-scale RPG in their spare time, while working full-time jobs? Iron Tower has managed to put out a DEMO which has more C&C and roleplaying in it than any game your beloved Obsidian has ever made, who have been mighty busy the last 10 years making terrible Xbawks games. The full game will most definetely have more C&C/roleplaying/skill checks than every Obsidian game put together
Thanks.

The best one for us regarding money we keep is buying through our website (BMT Micro).

Well is the difference that big with the Steam version? I've never bought anything digitally and Steam just look as the safest bet (although I admit I haven't researched that matter at all)

Just buy it from their site. They'll give you a Steam key when the game is released there.

Ok thanks for the info, enough offtopic in this thread. Seems the best thing is really buying from the site, I will definitely do that once I decide if I wanna play the pre-order demo or wait around for the full game.

I assumed that you belong to the category of people who aren't interested in the game, but like to complain about it
if i complain about it it's because i'm literally starting to feel my age creeping up on me while waiting for the game and have a growing suspicion that i actually might die before it comes out.

Chances for a box are slim, unless VD has lost it during the past few months.

For reference, they only have 900 preorders so far. Boxed copies would make little sense.

Well...

As far as I'm concerned, they'll have 899 preorders if this doesn't manifest itself.

After a few years, you'll adapt to this feeling.

Vault Dweller You should definitely release the new expanded demo as a Steam Early Access title. Suddenly your 900 preorders will go (at least) over 9000, which may be a game-changer for you. Plus, extra exposure won't hurt either.

I have to admit that visually the game keeps improving beyond expectations. Comparing current screenshots to the old combat demo, you can barely tell it's the same game. I can only assume the insides of the game are improving in a similar way, since I'm not following the updates anymore to not spoil anything for myself.

I think developers should be careful with Early Access unless they really need the extra cash to finish the game. It's a new thing and their hasn't really been any experiences or evidence from indie devs yet (because I don't think any Early Access games have been released fully yet) about the possible negatives of it yet. Does releasing on Early Access result in less overall sales when it's fully released because of "downgraded" hype? Some people view Early Access as "cheap" or not legitimate for releasing incomplete games (it might sound stupid but just check the steam subforums for any of the games on Early Access, it's toxic). The whole "double release", once as Early access and again as full game, could result in less overall sales, especially when you're dealing with customers as fickle as those on Steam.

The thought of 'flaming' on RPGWatch reminds me of the old Denis Healey quote, that being attacked by Geoffrey Howe (minister under Maggie Thatcher) was "like being savaged by a dead sheep".
