on the back of a T34.
i tested the free version to see how it runs in my old desktop (fx6300/1050ti/8gigs ddr3 and an ssd),and actually runs quite fast.
first 20 turns in a large map are around 8-10 secs.
maybe steam fucks up the game?i had the same problem with some mods in medieval 2,on steam the turn times were bad but on disk version it run fast.

also dont like the fact that there are random enemy units combined from various factions which makes no sense.

Pretty surprised myself by how much I spent on the game already: 13 hours.
I would say that it does its job at killing time if you've nothing more thrilling to do in life. Personally, I am desperately trying to occupy my brain with something to forget about a girl, so here I am.

I found AoW 3 to be too minimalist and a bit over the top with the treasure hunt (items gathering for heroes). Here those issues are, imo, resolved. But there is nothing exciting about Planetfalls.
I like most changes compared to previous game though.
The tech tree feels boring to me. I am fed up with tech trees which dictate that you got to wait 500 turns to get your hands on something cool. I'd rather have the ingame economy and logistic dictates what is possible.
I am still pretty entertained by Master of Orion 2 tech tree. So... There is always a matter of how to do things.
For instance here, if you want to unlock your racial t4: it's going to take so long that you're not going to make it on a small map. Maybe you get there on medium maps. But if you do that, you prevent yourself from researching the ''spells'', so = cool racial units =/= no cool spells.
But there are also mods, weapons and special tech to research. And Imo, all sound pretty much ''needed'' to enjoy the game.
And this issue with the tech tree fucks everything up, because guess what. You'll do the same fight WITH the same units, but also AGAINST the same units, ALL THE TIME. So yeah... it's very repetitive.
AI seems to cheat but it sticks with its t1/t2. It is also pretty dumb. The DVAR trenchers leave the trenchs all the time to have a good time with my gatlings.

I don't know what to think of the colonies... I guess it's better than what you could expect. But I need to get a grasp on the meta to be sure.

What still keeps me are the DVAR though, they feel like the most tacticool of the bunch.
- Their t1 can outmaneuvers to flank and go into safety mod with trenchs - can later mod trench to be even better -.
- Goliath (t2) has powerful guns and optimized overwatch. Again, you can run pretty much everywhere (even backward) and set up your overwatch with them, it does miracles.
- Help yourself with a support APC, so that you can get those +15% acc. , I picked the ''divine psy'' specialisation, it gets me another +10% acc. for my squad. As soon as you get a 2nd hero, dump your APC and pick Goliath on your main (pick the trait that allows a second turn after kill).
- Scout unit is p. fun too, go in the middle of enemy, burn, get into their back for more backstab
I am pretty sure the devs didn't intended the DVAR to work like that.

p.s: My rig is a prestigious i5 2500k accompanied by its loyal 570gti. 8 years of service, and still holding up. Barely.

They enabled "save to cloud" option as default. Perhaps that's the problem with turn times.

Maybe it's steam, my gog copy isn't terrible with loading and I'm running on a laptop.

Is it worth pirating?
All I'm saying is that I kickstarted AoW3 and then bought 2 expansions and now I regret spending all that money. Cuz I still think AoW1 is more fun overall. So this time I'll be careful with my $$. But whatever, AoW3 was ok for scenarios anyway. I will probably not get this until next year though. Even if it is ok in terms of bugs, I bet there will be an expansion that adds a bunch of stuff that makes a huge difference.

Usually (Unless they're doing something fucky) cloud saves on Steam get uploaded after you exit the game and are checked when you first launch the game (In case you played in offline mode, then it pops up and says you've got newer saves on your local machine and which do you want to use). Still could be Steam hosing it somehow but it'd be weird if they were pushing saves to the cloud during gameplay.

Game owns and is worlds better than AOW 3

Although the UI seems very console-y, probably a Paradox mandate

Looking at this.....fuck they don't even have a race that i would want to play. The closest thing to what i want to play is the vanguard, and they look generic as fuck.

It seems to me that the whole genre has been stagnating for quite a while. It's still mostly sticking to the MoM formula too closely and something needs to be done to rejuvenate it. It's a good formula, don't get me wrong, it just has some inherently tedious aspects which are especially pronounced on bigger maps. Trying to control and use more than even 3 cities to their fullest extent grinds the pacing of the turns to a halt and most of the time it doesn't have a good payoff since the big conflict always centers around a "main" stack. It needs less finnicky empire management and troop transport, that's true for basically any entry into the genre. It needs a way to control your empire as a macrocosm, as opposed to every town needing the same amount of attention and upgrade times. Troops also need some kind of long range deployment mechanic to make their transport less micromanage-y and time consuming. Maybe their training time can be increased, but be allowed to be made in every city you control or their movement points increased when not near another stack. Maybe some other kind of gameplay change entirely that doesn't come to me right now.

I played the game for an hour or so and it is a mess of highest level. First it tried to install some shit when i clicked the launcher not the install exe, then it run really terribly. Fuck my pc wasn't even trying,it was from the game, the fans weren't even speeding up. Maybe it is a ssd thing,i am running a hdd. Anyway there was unplayable due to lag that was fucking up shit. The turn was ok,but once you get in to any menu the games begins to lag, same with fights. The game as a whole feels bad,the retards decided to fuck with the mouse controls and now you click expecting to disable the chosen action and the game does, the UI is also really bad,the end turn button particularity is a retarded choice. They really fucked it up lol,the game looks passable for a fucking 4x,but it runs like i am playing kingdom come on ultra with mods......fuck that,i could run that shit on 30 fps, this one just runs terribly.

Do not buy it a release!!!

EDIT:
Fuck i forgot to include a pic of how incompetent their animators are.

Yeah,at this point you had played one 4x you have played all of them. I do hope some day we get an Aurora like game with a little bit more graphical UI and some stream lining.....not dumping down or simplifying.

As far as I can tell it's only the dlc cape that's fucked up, rest don't have excessive wind effect.
Who the fuck has a cape that flies in the dead of space anyway?

Someone keeps cranking that air conditioning unit to eleven :argh:

Why you don't want to play as Russian Dwarfs in Spaceh Comrade? But yes read some more reviews and game needs optimization and lot of polishing same as Kingmaker did for now its barely worth demoing.

First one, but shadows is fine its essentially same engine iirc.

No, the gameplay is somewhat different, new factions, a bit better balanced, leaders are now restricted to being wizards instead of melee killing machines that broke the first game balance so hard, etc. First game wins in terms of graphics and campaign, though

I'm demoing it right now, but the performance is terrible even on lowest settings. I'm using my sister's boyfriend's laptop, which is new and has a middle-of-the-road hardware, but it shouldn't be this terrible. Anyone else having such issues?

Edit: It's using the integrated graphics.

At least it was good for realizing the laptop isn't using the dedicated GPU at all despite all my efforts to the contrary, so it's time to RMA it.

10/10 would test laptops with it again, especially since it has a handy way to see what graphics adapter it's using.
Does your laptop have a dedicated GPU or not? Your posts are kinda confusing.

I have a mid-range laptop (Intel Core i7, GTX 1050 with 4GB RAM) and the game is perfectly playable on High settings. I mean the FPS are pretty low averaging at around 45, occasionally dropping down to 24 or so, but that's not that big of a deal in a turn-based game.

Yeah, it has a dedicated GPU that isn't getting used at all.
