Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
Demo turned me off.
Genuinely curious to know your impressions.
I'm terribly sorry, man. I read this, then totally forgot that I wanted to respond.

To start, the music is my first complaint. It does not fit, imo. For a game about politics, or whatever, what they went with feels wrong. Some pieces sound like elevator music. If not elevator music, it gives off a more noir feel. Other times, it's jazz. Portraits differ greatly in quality.

Fonts and menu lack cohesiveness. They're all over the place. I know this is an indie game, but it gives off a very amateurish feel.

Their heart is the right place, but the whole thing feels like a cheap knockoff. I might be harsh, I don't know. On paper, this should be what any FFT/TO fan wants. Classes are serviceable, but from what little I saw, quite boring. This is probably my biggest issue. Bu, again, I only did like two low level battles. The fights I got into were easy. Not much resistance. Not sure if this is indicative of the game as a whole, or not. While deploying your units, I found no way to take a look at the battlefield. In a game like this, this is a must.

Writing tries to ape the games that they claim to take inspiration from. I skipped most of it, to be honest. I hate the way they animate text, and it takes too long. I'd rather skip everything, than wait.

There are small niggling issues all over that need to be fixed for a smoother experience. Everything feels a bit rough. In the future, I might try this, for maybe $5. But for now, I'm not interested.

So, this is finally out then? Even if it sucks, at least the devs kept their word, which is more than can be said of other kickstarters and modern devs that promise one thing, make another, and scream "retrofascist!" if you don't like it.

Yeah. The Kickstarter was, what? Eight years ago? Was it nine? How many devs would have given up in that time?

lol apparently this game is like 8 hours long. How are you even supposed to engage with a Tactical RPG's systems in any meaningful way in such a short amount of game time? Pretty sad showing after 8 years of development, even from a two-person team. Not surprising though.

Beyond the length, it sounds like a very shallow experience overall.

Based on my (minimal) experience with the demo, I think that's a safety feature so you don't throw your computer at the wall because of how crap the UI is.

Even the Codex's favorite neanderthal managed about 3 hours of content per year of game development, by himself. :M

No big deal I'll just move along and won't blame them because on a broad scale the main reason why we get some decent such game released once in a while is that everybody is trying to make one.

Well, this thread is a tale of woe.

The steam forums and reviews paint a even bleaker picture with accusations of art tracing and shady dev interactions.

The devs seemed like they had their hearts in the right place, but you have to be a little insane to in this business. It's the only way to survive.

Tyranicon what kind of shady dev interactions?

Curious that they would be accused of art tracing. The girl behind the project had a bit of a following before she started because she's an artist. That's where most of her Kickstarter backers came from.

But tale of woe? Yes. I had the Kickstarter for Himeko Sutori going on at the same time. Twin Otter Studios brought in something like 7x more funding than I did. I released Himeko Sutori years ago and it has mostly positive reviews. Twin Otters had their Kickstarter, got a publisher after that, and spent years on the game. And the reviews sound like the game isn't great.

I haven't been following this at all (until like a day ago), but Steam players seem pissed. Here's what one review describes.

View attachment 46713

That about sums it up.

It's also full of insanely retarded design decisions like if you're going to recruit a member which have a randomly generated class, do you think you have a menu or selection to choose from or anything? No. It's a full screen with one character in it. You either hire that one or you leave and come back.

The game is a total dumpster fire and before that it seemed like a scam. People were pissed on the Kickstarter and gave feedback when they (eventually) released a demo which they did nothing about before shitting out the final release. Game sucks. Donut touch.

Not the first time I see developers think 1 wishlist = 1 sale
You'd think they would've learned by now.

I can't speak for the quality of the finished game but I played a free demo two or three years ago and I can't say I was impressed with what I experienced back then. Based on how many of the complaints in the review are about the developers's unwillingness to listen to feedback I assume most of the gripes I might've had with the game back also will be present in the full release.
