You've got to wonder if Ubisoft did any consumer surveys before greenlighting this.

Anyone interested enough in Japanese history/culture to play a Samurai game probably isn't imagining the protagonist being black.
Doubtful the guy who did the initial draft of story released a summary of what the story was going to be and none of it featured Yasuke. Someone probably wearing horned rim glasses was just skimming wikipedia when they found that trumped up article about him and creamed their pants.

The next Assassin's Creed after this is going to be about lesbian Witches in the Holy Roman Empire. No amount of consumer surveys would have told Ubisoft that fans want that, but they just don't care.

Thank god not all devs are subserviently adhering to social media hysteria and consoomer surveys and instead just stick to their own vision, regardless whether a handful of racists will whine about it.

You mean the racists that want a game set in Japan to have Japanese protagonists?

And who are those figures exactly? Some youtube grifters doing all the thinking for you?

Why is Yasuke such a big deal again?

Yeah you keep telling yourself that while the game flops.

It is a conundrum: you want American audience you need to put blacks in it. Blacks are a part of America's soul everyone is obsessed with them. But for the Asian market it is a huge turn off.

They set up a game in a location that people wanted for years, then instead of using any number of figures that could be suitable, they decide to make a foreigner the protagonist and raise him up to the level of nobility. They then used a variety of insanely tone deaf marketing and wondered why people were pissed.

I had the same reaction when I saw The Last Samurai in a theatre with a buddy.

It's like when they made the new Kamigawa in MTG, and it went from being a setting based on Japanese mythology and folklore to setting being based on the average ameritard's knowledge of Japan.

Assassin's Creed Shadows to Debut 2 Hours of Gameplay on Thursday
assassins-creed-shadows-ps5.900x.jpg

Ubisoft is going to reveal two hours of Assassin's Creed Shadows gameplay this Thursday on Twitch, the publisher has confirmed. A tweet announcing the livestream states viewers will see new footage from the Harima region as the game director pursues a high-ranking target, from the perspective of both Naoe and Yasuke.

Tune in for two hours of Assassin's Creed Shadows gameplay on January 23 at 9AM PT on https://t.co/wSSOXKUsSk! Chat with the Game Director as we pursue a high-ranking target and explore the Harima Province with Naoe and Yasuke. pic.twitter.com/0N1imSmmql— Assassin's Creed (@assassinscreed) January 22, 2025

This will be the longest slice of Assassin's Creed Shadows gameplay we've seen, with the PS5 release date set for 20th March 2025 after two delays. Last year, Ubisoft debuted a gameplay walkthrough, but this will be a far longer, more in-depth look at the title.

TL;DR: Shill Up does not like it but it's too much of a pussy to admit the game is trash. Main criticism is Naoe feels like a complete AC character (can do combat + parkour + stealth) but the nigger can only do combat

Is there a single western AAA game set to be released this year this isn't going to be an absolute clownshow? Previously my bet was on KCD2 but now it's looking like 100%.

Gaming drama is the evolved form of gaming.

I would day-1 this but games are too expensive in my country.

It worked for The Last Samurai.

All AAA releases are clownshows, it seems.

I don't mind though. A shame about KCD2 but otherwise I'll just enjoy the show and play indies in the meantime.

So apparently there’s no morality system in Shadows.

Valhalla:
Killing peasants while looting and burning their home as a Viking. >Desynchronized.

Shadows:
Killing random Japanese people in the street while playing as a Samurai.
>Nothing. You’re free to slaughter innocent people as much as you want.

What? Why? How?

Personally I feel like UFO 50 alone will get me through this year easily
