Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I don't mind though. A shame about KCD2 but otherwise I'll just enjoy the show and play indies in the meantime.
Personally I feel like UFO 50 alone will get me through this year easily
There's a fuckton of good indies released recently and to be released soon. Perhaps all AAA being worthless slops is a blessing.

Pathfinder: Wrath
I could see the next Yakuza game having a sidequest involving a gorilla in samurai armor being set loose in the Tokyo streets by an insane Frenchman.
unfortunately modern japanse game dev is no longer based enough to do this as they self censor now even from the original japanese script

So apparently there’s no morality system in Shadows.

Valhalla:
Killing peasants while looting and burning their home as a Viking. >Desynchronized.

Shadows:
Killing random Japanese people in the street while playing as a Samurai.
>Nothing. You’re free to slaughter innocent people as much as you want.

What? Why? How?
not desyncing when Yasuke kills civilians is the funniest thing i've ever seen, it's like Shadows is KKK propaganda

With how brutal Yasuke’s killing animations are
How he runs into stone walls/doors/etc
And how he can freely kill npcs without consequences,

I think we have the ultimate game of

I've heard from somewhere that Yasuke is allegedly a templar in this game, which would explain this. In Rogue, you don't desync if you kill civilians either.

Assassin's Creed Shadows PC Requirements Revealed
assassin-s-creed-shadows-ninja-takes-aim.jpg

Ubisoft's performance targets range from a minimum of 30 frames per second (FPS) at 1080p resolution with low visual settings to a maximum of 4K resolution at 60 FPS on Ultra settings. CPU and GPU requirements were more variable depending on a player's target performance, with the minimum settings calling for a modest Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or its equivalent. As the first Assassin's Creed game to support Ray Tracing natively, Assassin's Creed Shadows' will incorporate multiple Ray Tracing settings, including "selective," "standard," and "extended." The Extended Ray Tracing settings call for a top-of-the-line Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 or 4090 GPU.

One universal need across performance targets for Assassin's Creed Shadows is for a minimum of 16GB of RAM, as well as an SSD for storage. Ubisoft has not yet revealed the file size of the game, but considering that Assassin's Creed Shadows is similar to Valhalla and Odyssey in length, a final file size exceeding 50 or even 100 GB isn't out of the question. Some PC-specific graphical features come with Assassin's Creed Shadows, like support for ultrawide resolutions, an in-game benchmarking tool, uncapped framerates, dynamic resolution, and compatibility with various frame generation and upscaling techniques like Intel XeSS 2, Nvidia DLSS 3.7, and AMD FSR 3.1. In fact, all the performance targets assume the use of dynamic resolution and upscaling to some degree, which may boost hardware requirements even further for players that want to run the game without those technologies enabled.

  • Low Visual Settings
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Yasuke dindu nuffin.

They did that in every Assassins Creed game though, other than Odyssey (they re-implemented it in Valhalla for whatever reason). Odyssey is the only one where instead of the game forcing you back to the latest autosave after too many civilian kills, it sends mercenaries after you.

In AC2/Brotherhood/Revelations, for example:

Vox Day claims that it put the industry back in a similar situation to the 80s, where you can create a successful game with a studio of 8 people.

Examples of "this fuckton of good indies"? Because I don't see them.
Spend more time searching, then. Digging deep into the Steam catalog, not just the surface level stuff that gets recommended to you.

The upcoming Half Sword is the coolest physics-based fighting game I've ever seen. The playtest is free.

Another cool-looking upcoming game is Kingmakers, where you play as a modern time traveler going back to medieval England. It has battles where you can command your troops Total War style and fight alongside them like in Mount & Blade... with the twist that you bring modern weapons to the middle ages to obliterate castles with rocket launchers and mow down a charging squad of knights with a machine gun. Pure kino.

If you like destruction physics, Teardown is a lot of fun. Just a voxel-based sandbox where you can destroy literally everything with a variety of tools. Got mod support, too, so lots of user maps to destroy and cool new tools to use.

Door Kickers 2, currently in Early Access, no campaign mode yet but there's a level editor and a ton of high quality user made maps already. RTwP squad level counter-insurgency tactics game. Use a small squad of soldiers to achieve objectives like kill all enemies, capture an enemy VIP alive, rescue hostages, disarm bombs, etc. Excellent game.

Fire in the Beastlands, one of the best hidden indie gems I discovered recently. 2D soulslike with excellent interconnected level design and a cool stone age setting. Very good game.

If you don't mind jank, Bleak Faith: Forsaken is a great soulslike too. Made by 3 guys from Montenegro, it offers one of the most fascinating worlds I've explored in a game yet. Environments are gigantic brutalist shitholes. Very unique vibe.

I could go on, but if you spend the time to look for hidden gems among all the AAA slop, you'll find stuff you like. Just gotta have a bit of jank tolerance.

Pretty soon Ubisoft will be writing "Japanese" in all lower case as a passive aggressive insult
