Interview with Nick Pechenin the system designer: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news...the_pure_RNG_of_Damp_Dinspired_dice_rolls.php
<...>
Some players want to save scum! They feel like this is the degree of control they have over the experience and they want to exercise that control. My fiance, she loves to save scum and if the game will not let her save scum she will make sure that she will hack it to be able to.
<...>
If I didn't know better, I'd say that he's gonna marry fantadomat

Some people also like to eat shit, that doesn't mean a chef in a restaurant has to take them into account when making the menu. Same with save scumming. Don't do it, kids, it's not worth it.

What is the point of learning demonology in a fantasy world? Of course, summon succubus.
How about knowledge? Power? Revenge?

So right now we're discussing where exactly we're gonna start stabilizing RNG, most likely in combat scenarios. This is something that people have very specific set of expectations for. It's where they want a lot of control, have a lot of plans, and come up with very interesting tactics, strategies. If you have too much RNG it just messes it up.
Not this shit again.

143 pages but should I play this?
Honestly if you are feeling unsure I'd wait at least 6 months into EA or the release itself. I bought it and enjoyed but there is elements that Im not sure if Larian is going to fix or not, hope is not another case of armor system in DOS2
Right now I'm more concerned about what they will "fix" rather than what they won't, if LESS T_T's quoted interview is still valid, it looks like they're eyeballing the old d20 again. How ironic would it be if the EA customers were the ones who got the "most D&D-faithful" BG3 experience? See, people were bitching that Larian won't listen to EA feedback, maybe instead we should've been worried that they would.

After I rolled my way through Larian's official forums and the BG3 subreddit, along with seeing what sort of feedback and playstyles were arising on Twitch... yeah, that should be a concern. Larian has attracted a lot of really dumbass fans with their obnoxious sense of humor and now these people are providing a ton of feedback to Larian. There are some points of light but it's mostly a lot of shit.

If they mess with the Dice rolls is going to be fucking pure decline. I was hoping they add more tailored loot using the DM Guide guidelines and use the variants and expanded rules from official 5E source material, because raw vanilla 5E is trash, like you can't customize your character at all.

Where is this anti-rng feedback happening anyway? I have not seen any of this feedback here or on larian's forum. In contrast I have seen plenty of useful feedback about the camera, the surfaces, the chain system, and the bunny hopping, but he does not mention any of that, just adding options for loaded dice and save scumming. :?

Haven't you heard, customized characters is a powergaming trait and 5e is all about roleplaying your sexual fantasies.

Just like useful feats. Seriously, does anybody pick anything else than the 5-7 useful feats 5e has?

OMG... Just killed 3 intellect devourer alone at lv 1 as a warlock using few erldritch blast and just one tier 1 spell, intellect devourer was a pain in the *** on nwn1 and you fight then at much higher level...

Blame 5E. Their challenge rating in 5E is only a 2. Was definitely higher in 3E.

And yet, according to Larian's "Map O' Death", a lot of players die right there. :D

I wonder what % of that is badly optimized rangers.
I thought Larian tried to fix the Rangers.
In the EA Ranger is stupidly good, probably the strongest class there is.

Rogues are already nerfed compared to PnP because every character gets certain Bonus Actions that normally only a Rogue would get through Cunning Action. Not getting Expertise is another fairly big nerf for a class that isn't even that strong.

I also have heard that the sneak attack is caped at +1d6

Succubus can be used for everything that you listed... But I was joking.

So were the laran cultists this passionate about dos2 here as well? or is this all unprecedented. I'm just curious to see if in 5 years people will look at bg3 the same way we now look at dos2; as the larian-created piece of shit we know it as today. larian has taken every opportunity to put their annoying dos stuff in this game so why would it be any different?

That episode was a masterpiece...

My unique critique is some nerfs in few spells like firebolt and that the game nerfs a lot of enemies to fit a low level campaing. For eg, there are an Archdruid in a grove which is lv 4. An "Archdruid" that can't cast tier 3 spells? I also with half of my HP, killed 3 intellect devourer alone at lv 1 as a warlock using few erldritch blast and just one tier 1 spell. This monsters was a nightmare on chapter 1 of nwn1 and I fought him at lv 7 there. So far, the best aspect of the game is the story which is unique and cool and the AI of enemies. Enemies heal, hide, archers and mages try to get the higher ground, they try to flank, use spells in ways that makes sense and the AI is simple epic. The UI also could get a improvement mainly for the spellcasting which becomes too poluted with all types of spells even on low level, it happens a lot with shadowheart

have you considered trying to interview Swen to ask him about how he feels about creating the SEQUENCE OF THE greatest RPG ever seen by mankind?

Fixed for you. :P

BG3 is good but is not as good as BG2.

I cannot confirm or deny that yet, haven't looked into a rogue, but I would be surprised if that was the case.

You do realize that they buffed wizard cantrips a lot right, they did not nerf them? Firebolt currently does 1d6+1d4+2d4 damage (although it rolls to hit on all of those dice), vs the 1d10 damage it would do if it followed the rules. For all your complaints about them "nerfing" wizards, they made them a lot stronger.
