Also there are mods already to fix the mechanics so i am not concerned about that.
Don't get too comfortable with "mods will fix it." Larian's platform is obviously quite moddable but some of these problems, like party and camera controls, may require code changes. If you have access they're piss easy, but otherwise you're gonna have a hard time catching click listeners if that UI functionality isn't exposed.

Besides, that's the point of Early Access, theoretically, to address major issues that don't work for the playerbase while you're still in development. So speak now or forever hold your toilet chain.

To me you people are overreacting quite a lot. It is true there are some differences with the source material i dislike some of them but in the end the game plays well. Also there are mods already to fix the mechanics so i am not concerned about that. I mean what is happening Codex? Bashing a company that for once wants to deliver an experience similiar to the pen and paper to one side and on the other praising another company that is converting a pen and paper in first person shooter? Give me a break. :D

As for charname is actually canon in D&D it has a name and also an ending. Check. Murder on Baldur's gate. He died.
People are being critical precisely because BG3 has the potential to be fucking good, and so we want to point out the often easily fixable issues that prevent it from being as good as it can be.

That i agree... However as i already state the UI clearly needs a rework i am quite sure the elemental damage is there to stay to what extent i am not sure. In the end they launched the Early Access primarely to have feedback and if there is who can score a nice game out of them is them.

Who if not Larian?
Beamdog? Is too much busy doing Enhanced editions with nothing enhanced at all the only original work they did were Siege of Dragonspear and the story was actually cringe and full of SJW propaganda.
CD projekt? While they have good writers they will turn the game in a sort real time action game probably third person as it seems that fantasy is their third person setting.

Solasta is an indie that is more faithful of the D&D 5th edition rules. But lacks decent narration.

Pathfinder is not D&D.

The feedback is there we have to say how Larian will address it. They love D&D this is much clear however they borrowed some mechanics from DOS2 wich i don't dilike honestly aside the awful UI. The Early access story is engaging and even very very reactive to your choices. Skill checks are there. Stat checks are there it felt like playing D&D and that is the important.

I would remind you that most of BG consist in kiting creatures to traps you could even kill dragons like that risk free. And not only that. Bg and Bg2 had a lot in character building regarding powerplay. But not much regarding roleplay. As there were not persuasion checks. Intimidations checks. And so on. This is a thing that was implemented first in to NWN. The first bg while rocking on exploration was pretty dull and full of cheesing jokes everywhere not so GRIM DARK how many people are claiming BG2 had a way more serious tone in world building and narration.

It is far from perfect yes. In the end is still in Early Access so there is a whole room of possibility. Now someone would dislike what i have to say but i will say it anyways. I am glad the moved away from real time with pause and instead they chosed to do it turn based.

For who wonders what was the end of the character of bg and bg2 here is the link.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Abdel_Adrian

After his adventuring days came to a close Abdel returned to his first home of Candlekeep. For some time he lived a quiet life of introspection and deep thought as Gorion had before him.

In time Abdel decided to move north to Baldur's Gate and became enlisted man in the Flaming Fist. He started as a private and quickly ascended within the its ranks. When Duke Valarken killed the Marshal of the Flaming Fist during the mid–15th century, Abdel took over as the head of the mercenary company. Despite his initial protests, he was also granted the title of Grand Duke that traditionally accompanied being Marshal.

On Returning Day in the Year of the Narthex Murders, 1482 DR, Abdel stood in front of a large crowd of Baldurians gathered in the Wide. Part way through his speech he was confronted by Viekang, the only other remaining Bhaalspawn that managed to survive their bloody that ended a century earlier. Vieking attacked his half-brother and the crowd became uproarious. The two Bhaalspawn fought one another until one emerged victorious by killing the other. While it was unknown which man died that day, the victor of the battle underwent a gruesome transformation into the avatar of Bhaal known as the Bhaalspawn Slayer. Chaos broke out in the marketplace and many in the crowd were killed.

Eventually the monstrosity was slain by the Flaming Fist and a band of local adventurers.[The following day the city of Baldur's Gate held an austere funeral for the Grand Duke Adrian. As befitting his station, his body was interred beneath High Hall in the Upper City. During his life and after his death, tales of Abdel's adventures spread far across the Realms.

Since we're sharing, Abdel Adrian is such a terrible D&D name. Who the fuck puts a "b" after a "d"? Go type "abd" into an online dictionary, see how many suggestions pop up. And how did he get a surname anyway? I mean, it's not on the chargen page, is Gorion an Adrian? Was Alianna? Is Minsc running around with a driver's license for Minsc-Bob Przybyszewski or is Jaheira a stage name because Jenny Brian wasn't cool enough? So many questions...

It is of my knowledge there is a book that narrates the events. A book that is so dreadfully bad is good! :D

If you are interested i will post the link. It is amazangly bad written and is hilarious.

Well, "Abdel" bears a striking resemblance to a certain non-English real world name. In fact, only a single letter is different and it's not one of the "bd" that's tripping you up. And that name is

Abdul. Yes, apparently the Bhaalspawn is a sandnigger.

I always thought it was simply someone getting cute with the name Abel, as in Cain and Abel, and throwing an extra letter in there in typical fantasy fashion. Then their "creativity" ran out when they got to the surname and they just went "fuck it, Abdel Adrian."

Nah, thanks, I think I've even seen some excerpts on this very Codex. Quite the rollercoaster, apparently, but one turn was enough for my stomach.

Abdul means either slave or gods subject. It kinda fits the situation.
Abdel also bears resemblance to "Aptal" which means stupid. Even more fitting for that character.

AbdEl is a legit (and fairly typical) Arabic name.
You don't even need to change any letter to have a match.

I wonder how many people in this thread actually played the game. "Abdel Adrian" wasn't invented by the retarded author of the equally retarded novels. It's one of the pre-generated characters in the original game (the blonde guy).

Also, and I can't stress this enough - the canonical Abdel Adrian is just CHARNAME with a fixed race (human), gender (male) and alignment (Neutral). Even his class, initially set as Fighter, was eventually removed. The guy has absolutely no relation whatsoever to the novels, which have been de-canonised by WotC, one the few recent moves that this retarded company has made for the better.

So yes, if Abdel Adrian had a child, and it'll be playable, it'll be the child of either Aerie, Jaheira or, and I shudder at the thought, Neera, since those are the three possible romances. Viconia is disqualified, since she dies if you romance her, and as rusty_shackleford has helpfully pointed out, she's alive in "present day" Faerun.

I am getting more and more confused about this Abdel guy. Is he our CHARNAME who went through the events of BG1 and 2? There are just no canonical version of these events? Also, they can retcon Viconia's death. If the kid actually is CHARNAME's child, I bet it won't know who its mother is so they don't force a canon romance. I'm already salty enough they forced a canon protagonist in the first place.

Abdel is the MC in the horrible, God awful, books "based on" the games. Due to how FR canon works, they are (or at least were, if there's anything the vast majority of FR's fandom would like to see axed from canon it's them) the canonical version of BG.

Nah, the novels are 100% non-canon. What I am wondering is if the MC is still canonically Abdel Adrian the neutral human male. From what I can tell, yes?

He is relevant not because he appears in those books, but because he appears in the Murder in Baldur's Gate adventure, which is somewhat linked to the Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus adventure.

There's a 0% chance that the name "Abdel Adrian" will appear in Baldur's Gate 3 as MC's name. The words "Abdel" and "Adrian" are featured a grand total of zero times in Descent into Avernus.

At best, it will be featured in a lore book without any consequence that nobody will read.

and as rusty_shackleford has helpfully pointed out, she's alive in "present day" Faerun.
I'm curious about this. Where does Viconia appear in the present?
She gets very briefly mentioned during a quest in the Neverwinter MMORPG (2013). A game whose only purpose is to show how much of an improvement Larian's Baldur's Gate 3 is over "recent" official D&D videogames.
Ah, no wonder I never saw it. I'm not sure why anyone would consider it canon when even the books no longer are. I bet Larian will quietly ignore it and leave the Bhaalspawn's waifu completely ambiguous IF the backround is indeed their child. Any takers?

Didn't "Abdullah" mean literally "new to Allah", as in "neophyte"? I.e., charname is the first new convert of Bhaal's.

Do you really expect that people will remember the name of a random pre-gen character in a 20 year old game? I expect most people didn't even look at the pre-gens, but jumped straight into making their own character.

The novels were bad. But in the end seems that the canonic things happened were the ones narrated in the original game. The only difference is they actually given an identity to Charname Abdel Adrian that's about it. The novel were so hilariously bad that they were overall disliked this is why in the end wizard of the coast wanted to canonize the events but using the games instead of the novels.

Abdel Adrian dies in Murder on Baldur's gate. Another relevant adventure for baldurs gate 3 is Baldur's gate: Descent in to avernus. As Zariel get mentioned a lot of times during the adventure. Of course if you follow the storyline presented in those two adventures you will notice that Bhaal is actually returned now and this is very interesting.
My Theory is that the whole tadpole thingy and the illithid will be not the main villain in this game is just how the adventure starts and unfold.

The events of Murder of Baldur's gate are not only canonized but also relevant as it the even that will lead to the resurrection of Bhaal

I have to say it's impressive how consistently you can rely on the "casual" fanbase to come up with some of the most awful, useless, wasteful, money-burning suggestions when it comes to adding features to a game in development.

"Please add a different prologue pre-kidnapping for each possible race/class combination"
"Please, add 12 more voice options for the character, and then make him/her fully voiced across the entire game".
"What about options to make my character a vegan?"
"I'd like more kinky romance options with sadomasochistic flavor"

Is this a result of some meningitis pandemic going around?
