Her head being tilted back right at mind flayer crotch-level with all the skulls with holes in the top of them is excellent. We could only hope for such tasteful skull rape in BG3. Ideally with the player having the option to fuck some brains too, you can just say the tadpole made you do it. Not a paladin in the land would convict you.

Day and night cycles are a worthless waste of development time.
Far from it. Want a little extra immersion? BAM. Day & night cycles got you covered. Traveling through the same zone over and over getting a bit boring? Day & night cycles keep it fresh. Want to see that awesome level in a new light? Literally, that's what day & night cycles do for us. Think about the possibilities! Day bosses? Night bosses? Day & night puzzles? Heck yeah! My wife also agrees that day & night cycles are a great investment in any CRPG.

YES!!! Sadly he never played BG1/2, so he don't know how Day/Night cycle where. there are even a part of the map in perma night and after you complete a quest, the area becomes normal. The mod Shadow Magic adds the shadow caster and shadow adepts are way weaker at night. Having huge penalty in casting speed, casting level and certain spells mostly summons are way weaker while the caster is exposed to sunlight.

In M&M 6, there is a spell called moon ray which nukes the screen and heals the party dealing d4 * dark magic skill level damage, but could only be used at night and outdoors.

For martials, we could have stealth missions easier to be done at night, events in taverns only at night, different gear from the guards(eg - axe + shield at day and torch + axe at night) and so on.

RPGs from Faery Tale Adventure (1986) to Outward (2019) have managed to successfully implement basic logistics in regard to eating and sleeping. I don't think it's too much to expect of a game with a AAA budget, although in any case it's possible to include a day/night cycle without those other elements, as in for example Dragon's Dogma (2012/2013/2016).

yea because if there's one thing modern AAA games need more of are superfluous survival mechanics

Amazing said.

In fact, we need MORE time based mechanics, not less. Instead of only day/night cycle, full seasons, with summer, winter and so on. Affecting monsters, wild life, crops, clothing that the NPCs are wearing and so on. Some GURPS artillery and weather based spells can only work in certain conditions. Good luck trying to put a city under a snowstorm if that city temperature is above 30ºC.

Actually, yes, it wouldn't hurt.
And as they are on it, they could learn to implement them decently. Not too frequent and annoying, but also not ignorable to the point of being basically vestigial, as it's often the case.
