That style is blaxploitation nostalgia, which Tarantino already did with Jackie Brown before they were born.

Doubly derivative.
A proper blaxsploitation character, say a black monk or rogue reminiscent of those "Kung Fu in the hood" 70s movies, would at least be entertaining.

I'd prefer a character from I'm Gonna Git You Sucka! Like Fly Guy (pimp with fish bowl platform shoes). :P

So would fucking Godzilla. But what’s it doing in Baldur’s Gate? Seriously, they’re more parochial than a !Kung tribe.

I sort of get this. I think my issue with it is that like D&D has changed a lot since BG1&2. So for instance, BG1 you adventure around, fight some kobolds, help some farmers, etc. end up in Baldur's Gate which is presented as almost entirely human with a few demihumans of different sorts.

BG3 in what I played of it is like 90% tieflings and drow and shit. So we went from fantasy medieval peasantry to full blown interplanar invasion setting, including planehopping illithid airship pursued by githyanki on dragons opening chase scenes. This shit jumped the shark from the opening credits before character creation. Anything goes.

I’m actually ok with that. But the Gith don’t come from Harlem lol.

I get that. That tends to be my reaction to monks, tbh. ;)

I think for me it's more like: I have trouble taking the setting seriously, or at least, seriously as a continuation of the first Baldur's Gate games given this weird discontinuity in theme and presentation. Sure, the BGs are about the Bhaalspawn and the after-effects of the Time of Troubles, but they weren't anywhere near as epic and non-grounded as BG3 is right out of the gate. So at that point, imo, go hard, just have fun and don't think about it too much.

Society changed, not DnD

Thats why every game is like Planescape now, just look at BG3 and WotR

Everyone must be some kind of special snowflake or overdesigned character

No sense of measure. But of course retards like you will love it

Epic is fine but ground it in shit you know. The history of Antwerp alone is so deep and rich you could make a game out of it that would make the Baldur’s Gate of BG1 and 2 look like Mayberry.

Illithids as Hapsburgs and Gith as Hohenzollern or whatever (I know Belgian history about as well as Sven understands the Murkan tropes he’s trying to shoehorn into the game) but no it’s got to be wall-to-wall Californication brainworms.

One of the things that annoyed me about the first trailer they put out is that the game is based on the underworld stuff right out of the gate.

Baldur's Gate starts in a very Tolkienesque manner. You are just a young kid who lived a very normal and mundane life who suddenly has been trust into a world that was far more dangerous and mysterious than you could ever imagine, same as in Lord of the Rings with Frodo etc.

Now, suddenly, you are encountering Illithids and Giths and Beholders and who knows what the fuck else like it's the most every day thing. There's no mystery now, everything has been laid bare to the point even the most bizzare and esoteric aspects of Forgotten Realms are just commonplace and boring.

Well, the CHARNAME generic afroamerican chick felt out of place, but other than that I don't get the amount of hate this trailer activated.
It was just kind of meh. Mostly the stuff we've seen.

You guys are premature hating. There will be planty of better reasons.

I think you nailed it. It never grounds itself to have a contrast for a wow, that's actually epic! moment like Baldur's Gate 2 eventually builds to, or even say, getting into Durlag's Tower in BG1. Or say, talking to Myrkul or the high fantasy ruins in NWN2. Instead, you get presented with a Michael Bay movie off the hop and it ends up being lesser than it could be. More BSB than fantastic.

I got triggered by the lesbo shit and there's nothing they can do to win me over. Even if that shit is totally optional if you make your CHARNAME male and white they still CHOSE to put that degeneracy in their trailer, and if that's the fight they wanna have hey, whatever works for them. From my part, i'll give my cash to someone else.

But even aside for that i just don't like how everything is tinted in this glinty filter what kind of style is this it's like one of those porno StudioFOW games. It reminds me of genetic mobile game fantasy.

BG1:
Nestled atop the cliffs that rise from the Sword Coast, the citadel of Candlekeep houses the finest and most comprehensive collection of writings on the face of Faerûn. It is an imposing fortress, kept in strict isolation from the intrigues that occasionally plague the rest of the Forgotten Realms. It is secluded, highly regimented, and it is home...

BG3:
You start on ILLITHID SPELLJAMMER chased by GITHYANKI ON DRAGONS about to crash in motherfuckin' HELL! Yeah!!!
You have ILLITHID TADPOLE in your brain! But it's not a regular TADPOLE. It's a SUPER SPECIAL MYSTERY TADPOLE that gives you COOL POWERS and IMAGINARY WAIFU!
Oh, and if you pick a premade character, let's say Gale... you also have a NETHERESE NUCLEAR WARHEAD IN YOUR BUM!!!

It's just the prologue.

Can somebody post that cartoon about how hobbies get taken over and how eventually the people who liked the hobby originally get kicked out?

Because this is precisely what's going on here.

Also, the super special illithid tadpole might have been modified with netherese shadow magic. Probably from that flying city which survived in the plane of shadows.
Oh, and we have 3d model of the slayer form, so Bhaal is somehow present in the story too.

Why Belgians are like this?
Are people simply born Belgian?
Or do you have to become one by series of small moral compromises?
