They are more complex than 2E D&D but less than 3.5 or 4e.
Highlighted isn't true. 3.5 was a very simple ruleset with a ton, a ton and another metric ton of content. It only appeared complex.

Don't you think that Gaider has transitioned out of being a competent writer for CRPGs with Codex appeal?

Gaider for me, was always a good writer for characters (at least you remember the characters he wrote), but as a leadwriter he didn't seem to be able to connect it all under one big story (except with Dragon Age 2, but there he had the other one as his viceleadwriter. I forgot her name, hum). I think as a writer he's fine enough, as long as he doesn't have to write quests or the mainplot.

I think Sarah Baylus at Larian is good at organizing the stuff (even if you didn't like the writing, the overall story of D:OS2 and its themes were strong enough), so I think she does a good job.

Dragon Age 2 is so weird, because its the opposite of what Gaider usually is. DA2 actually had a good plot, but not too good characters.

Not true. 3.5 has ton of rules, options and exceptions to rules during combat. 5e does not have that, it is by design. Even buffing in 5e is limited due to Concentration rules.

So is this going to be a sequel in name alone? Because I don't really see how you can continue the story of the Bhaalspawn after Throne of Bhaal.

Funny, I liked the characters :D. But yeah, the plot is good. I really think that it was Sheryl Chees contribution, which hold it together ... at least I seem to remember, that she was the right hand in that project. It's been a while, since I knew that.

Wouldn't be the worst thing though. But hey, Bhaal is back 5E takes place centuries later so technically we could still play a descendant of the Bhaalspawn. Personally I would prefer hints here and there and us kicking bhaalcultists butt. I don't even need a backstory. Just being an adventurer would be enough for me. It works in D&D-games.

in 5E Bhaal is resurrected already , my bet is something related to descent to avernus.

I was hoping for a new IP, or a new take on the Divinity series, meh. Baldur's Gate was always trash and this can only be incline for that series, but I don't really give a crap anyways.
