Bet you liked FO:NV.

Sadly, never played it. FO3 scared me away. It supposedly good (?), I'll probably never find out.

Just because there is a tendency for RTwP games to have trash mobs doesn't

And yes and that tendency stems from the system itself that is why you see so much more RTwP with trash mobs than TB. Thank you proving my point ;)

Games aren't art lmao. Imagine trying to compare a game to something like the Sistine Chapel

Comparing anything to Sistine Chapel makes almost anything don't look like art ;)

Nigga is retarded, waste of time to keep talking.

Aww, don't be so hard on yourself. I mean self diagnosis is most of the time wrong ;)

"Controversial" in the context of BG legacy, things like the generic D:OS art style and dialogue probably written by someone who has never spoken a word in his entire life. Also "controversial" in the context of being a D&D game, like some big discrepancies from D&D 5 ruleset.
Well, look, the BG games are pretty old by now and nobody outside a small subset of people really cared for a "faithful" sequel. You have to understand that to go forward.
What you see as controversial is more or less expected for the majority of gamers.
Also the art style is definitely not generic, you might not like it but seeing this gameplay video I would never call that a controversy. If anything the game looked pretty.
The dialogue system is weird , I give you that. They could have asked why they chose the specific "perspective".
The ruleset... It's a faithful enough representation for a CRPG. I would even say that they surprised me with how much they stuck to the rules. I was expecting a lot of "novelty".
Wait, I am perfectly fine with everything they showed us. The simple fact that we are getting a semi-faithful turn-based D&D 5 game makes me as happy as I can be.

I just think that there could be more interesting questions than "can we respec companions?".

One thing Larian could've done differently to troll the entire RPG audience is go with RTT system (Real Time Turns).

Basically you queue up your moves during your turn, and the enemy does the same, then you have like 5-6 second turn where everybody is moving at the same time executing commands and you as a player have no control over it. Then it's back to issuing commands again. It has both the franticness and awesome explosions of RTwP and meticulousness of a TB system. And if pretty much hated by everyone. I only saw some JRPGs trying to implement it and it's a majestic chaos. It's a shame they didn't go this route. The butthurt would be glorious and everybody would remember BG3 for years and years :P

I unironically would like to play that. Believe it or not, that's how original D&D (up to AD&D 2nd Edition) was supposed to be played. People who believe Old Skool D&D is turn-based as seen in videogames are wrong. D&D comes from wargaming, where the players announce what the units will do, then the referee decides the order and how things will play out. Videogame turns were an inversion of a rule system that yet (almost) nobody has adapted to a videogame: actions are declared first, then initiative is resolved but actions are supposed to be happening all at the same time; character don't take turns waiting for each other, that's just silly and makes no sense. But the videogame style has become so popular, that now nobody uses the original one. Back then, some initiative systems were simple (roll 1d6 for team initiative and a fixed order for different types of actions: ranged weapons > melee > movement > spells) but some were quite complex, like AD&D 2nd edition which, with individual initiative and all optional rules (weapon and spell speeds) could feel like BG with spell interruptions and two archers simultaneously killing one another. What it means is that you knew what your character wanted to do, but you were never 100% sure in what order things would happen.

For example, the things you said are problems with RTwP:

Your party will fire spells into your line, use AOEs incorrectly, waste healing using it too early or too late, they won't react to flanking or being flat-footed correctly etc.

Were all features of the original p&p D&D to simulate the uncertainty and chaos of combat. I recently watched a video by one of the original D&D creators (Tim Kask) and what you say about AOEs happened in one of the first playtesting sessions: the warriors declared they were going to charge into the room and the mage said he would cast a fireball, not realizing those things would happen in the same round. So, movement (which is faster) was resolved first, then the mage cast the fireball (a slower action resolved at the end of the round) when the players were already inside, and one of them died.

Now you need to immediately give me an exhaustive definition of what can or cannot be art or the thread can't proceed.
Educate yourself and read some books. I'm not going to spend the time breaking down a complex topic that has many different layers involving philosophy, literature, and history. Especially since I'm the process of learning about this very thing at this moment.
Some serious mental deficiency to think your retarded screeching counts as "bullying". You can't even form proper insults. The best you can come up with it is "i'm better than you".
Hopefully soon you'll graduate to "my dad can beat up your dead".
Lmao, rich coming from the guy who's insults amount to "you're a teenager". Retard is incapable of seeing the irony and the complete mockery he's making of himself. Like I said, post that picture of your torso mate, and I'll do mine. Plenty of fat people on the Codex, you won't be the first, so if that's what's holding you back don't be shy.

Just like you ignored all the stuff that proved you don't know what the fuck you're talking about regarding RTwP vs. TB, you ignored this.
or even a beautiful painting.
Keep posting emojis tho, it really shows you're super cool and don't take anything seriously.

I think it would me more awesome and exciting if they made a new Spelljammer game in this engine.

RTwP has some severe issues that are sadly built-in and I never seen any game that managed to address it. With RTwP games, especially the harder ones, you are must heavily rely on abusing the pause button, because AI of your team is sadly lacking and no amount automation (so far) was able to fix it.

"Abusing the pause button"? Party AI? You sound like a complete retard.

Nobody with an IQ above 80 plays with party AI on (just think, who would cede automatic control to AI in a turn-based game?). Party AI option is for the same kind of people who use "story mode". Also, you can't abuse the pause button. The entire point of RTwP is that you pause before you give orders.

Old IE games had this problem, Dragon Age had this problem. PoE had this problem, Kingmaker had this problem (despite offering a large array of options for the AI behaviours).

No, it's you who have a problem, you're trying to play these games like a drooling moron would.

And it's not even the issue of "Get Gud Fagget" because to play at maximum efficiency you will have to micro, so will have abuse the pause button, so you will impact the speed of the game. It's such a built-in issue, that I almost don't like calling it a problem. It's more of a feature really.

Uhhh, yes? Pausing is a feature of RTwP, in case you missed that.

Who cares about "impacting the speed of the game"? We're comparing with turn-based, FFS. Nobody around here is an ADHD twitch action gamer.

If you are in the process of learning about this very thing at this moment, I am going to spoil it for you: in the end it's impossible to objectively and universally decide what is and what isn't art. Five hundred years ago novels weren't considered art, would you say that now?

So, no army of undeads/construct?
Animate Dead is not a concentration spell and you can cast it more than once (each cast allows you to control more undeads). However, I don't know how they will adapt the spell for the videogame.

properly made TB lets you skip animations or executes all the enemies' turns at the same time depending on the combat system.
too bad all games with tb combat are not properly executed and you wait hours for retarded ai to climb ladders. :shittydog:

It requires ingredients

I would love to see a Spelljammer game that actually lets you explore The Spelljammer itself. Reading the materials on that ship was a delight.

I am, which is exactly why I can't stand turd-based combat that takes forever and you have other games to play. Even blobbers are better when they're real-time. Don't @ me.

Think I finally realize the uneasy feeling I had watching this gameplay reveal: that they are going HARD on D&D 5E rules and class balance.

When Swen was in character creation and scrolled down the classes and I saw barebone Fighter features a little thread of hope I had inside me was severed, compared to how much fun I had with Warfare skills in DOS:2.

I want to play as a heavily armored motherfucker (so far the game doesnt even have Half-Orcs!) and feel badass/threatening on the battlefield, and so far it doesnt look like BG3 is gonna give this to me
Fighter subclass battlemaster. You have all the stuff you want.

I have a question for the RTwP defenders: In higher difficulties or harder combat scenarios how much time is the game actually UNPAUSED?
And since the obvious answer is very, very rarely, why is the "real-time" so important? What does it offer?

At least I wasn't wrong about the amount of drama this reveal will cause. I'm actually excited about a game for once and this hasn't happened for a while. Massive incline, unbelievable, this sets a precedent.

Fighters in D&D 5 are amazing at that. They can reach very high levels of AC and they deal a lot of damage (as an example, the barbarian attacks 2 times each turn, while a fighter reaches 4 attacks and can burst 8 attacks in the same turn a couple of times each day).

Simultaneous movement and continuous order-giving. That's pretty much the difference.

So whether you like RTwP or not really depends on this.

Yeah, I don't. And if nobody plays with it, why is it even there. If it's fundamentally broken, it should be discarded ;)

No, it's you who have a problem, you're trying to play these games like a drooling moron would.

Like, I said - I don't play that way. But if the feature is there it is meant to be used, and if it's detrimental to the player it should be removed. That is the entire problem RTwP. The real time is broken because of the design. Maybe in another 20 years when AI gets better RTwP will be actually good. Now it isn't. And if during harder encounters I'm only playing with Pause why do I need RT anyway. Just give me TB it's superior to Pause button combat.

If a game that was suppose to be faster and be more action oriented isn't because I'm pausing all the time. Then on a fundamental level it failed to be what it was touted to be. And it that case if the game will be as slow just give me TB. It is just better and more engaging.

how? I thought your AC stays relatively tame through leveling?
