In a context of DOS:3 it one of the reasons why they cut down the party size: to reduce the number of mobs therefore reduce average overall encounter's time. Which is a shame.
Yeah no matter what people say about pausing, TB takes significatly more time to get through similar encounters than RTWP. Take kingmaker TB mode for example, it's cool and works pretty well minus the (inmy opinion) unclear UI, BUT going through the entire game with it took me almost twice as much as my average RTWP playthrough on harder difficulties.
TB can implement functions like skip enemy turn etc to reduce that but it's obviously not an optimal solution0
Almost as if turn-based games focus more on meaningful fights and RTwP just throw trash fights everywhere.
Considering Larian are making this garbage, there will be 1 or 2 decent fights in the entire game at most, and am being pretty generous here.

Pretty much. Most RTwP games have faster encounters because in most of them the 'wP' tends to become optional, so what you have in fact is a poorly optimized RT game for the majority of gameplay.

And to compare Pathfinder's innate system with a TB mod (or the reversed Deadfire equivalent) does not amount to much of a case in favor of either system since the encounter design was made with only the original system in mind.

Except the encounter design/combat was the best part of D:OS1 and 2.
Keep trying to look cool and edgy to impress people.

No it's not, brain dead CC fest(or burst fest-> cc fest in 2) just isn't interesting no matter how many explosive barrels Larian throws around.
But I shouldn't expect more from someone with the ugliest PoE potrait.

Your shit taste and the fact that all it takes is some cartoony explosion to keep your interest isn't my fault either.

Funny how everyone who has either never played the games or barely played the games always uses the same line "EXPLOOOSIVE BARRELS!" like a fucking NPC

I'm in a weird mood, I feel like playing some Baldur's Gate, but I also don't feel like going through the huge story again.

Starting the Baldur's Gate series is like starting a long TV show. I kind of wish there more options to just screw around like in Bethesda games.

Maybe I'll chance fire up BG1 and run around the countryside a bit. Or focus on getting to Dragonspear, I've never played it.

Unpopular opinion: POEs did as well as they did because of RTwP.
Don't be daft. It did well because of the hype of the Kickstarter cRPG renascence meme and nostalgia towards BG, which on its turn was successful because of D&D, graphics, and scope. BG would be hugely improved if it was conceived with turn-based combat in mind. People like you are similar to dogs, maybe pigs. You can get used to anything as long as it has some character progression and tons of quests. You are so used to your low standards and developers' mistakes that they became a benchmark of quality in your distorted eyes.

As a TB fag, I have no problem saying DOS combat and its system sucks, but I haven't seen anyone here defending that system. Takes a really "special" kind of person to be tilting at windmills.
What are you on about? D:OS was the Codex GOTY in 2014, of course people here like the combat system.

Anywhay, ain't seein' anyone here in this thread trumpeting why it's a good combat system.

98.5% of this thread is basically NO, YOU!

Baldur's Gate 3 being TB isn't the problem, the problem is Larian is developing it.
So you are retard.

go to play solasta demo you will realize that BG 3 use 5e mechanics and there is very little larian(just the flaming bow) and all the other stuff (even throwing shoes) are stuff allowed by 5e ruleset.

A friend asked to play dos2 recently and i must say while its fun, vendor grinding for gear every other level is getting old.
Which makes me hopeful for bg3 as it doesnt have level scaling equipment

You can use the de-bloat mod.

You can choose the amount of bloat you want, and the D&D-like progression setting has as much item progression as roughly D&D.

When I was a kid we were grateful if iron didn't say 'Made In China Nashkel.'

We had to walk to the Nashkel mines barefoot in the snow, attacked by kobolds on the way there and koitalics on the way back.
