it's hard to shit on the game for its armor when the visual variety alone makes it better than 99% of games in general, plus dyes that can overhaul a whole piece's look

Stupid shoulder pauldrons and all kind of straps and buckles have been a thing since BG2. The Armour is mostly good looking in BG3 and you have a good diversity of it too.

Is the elder brain originally from Ravenloft?

I remember reading thoughts of darkness as a kid, and google searches show nothing before that.
The AD&D 2nd edition Monstrous Compendium from 1989 already mentioned Elder Brains:

"The center of each community is the elder-brain, a pool of briny brain fluid that contains the brains of the community's dead mind flayers. Due to the powerful mental force of the illithids, the elder-brain remains sentient even after their bodies have been destroyed, and the telepathic union of these brains of the dead rules the community."

Not sure if there was any reference prior to 1989. :M
Icewind Dale 2 also had an Elder Brain.
Baldur's Gate 2 had one in the Illithid Stronghold in the Underdark.

This looks like the stock female elf face, which btw is the only good female elf face and the one with freckles I think is a slightly modified reskin.
I used the freckled elf face for the dream girl. Too bad I was only catfishing myself

It might not be WoW, and it generally looks decent, but calling it "real to life" seems like a bit of a stretch.

Wtf!? I had almost the same party with the same equipment. Except the frog had a different glaive.

The fact that our party look almost identical is sign of great itemization. Not.

So how bad is act 3 when it comes to bugs?
Some people swear act 3 is unplayable while others are saying buggy but playable?

Based on the replies it seems it really depends on the choices and companions you have, some are bugged more than others, so there's no better answer other than to try and see

Started it and didn't get any bugs yet. I had one line from a companion that was out of place referring to a decision I never took. But so far nothing massive.
Main obvious thing is companion comment a lot less on what's happening even when it seems like they should. But gameplay wise nothing seems particularly out there so far.
Like Durge is revealed to be a bhaalspawn and one of the original plotters by ghortash and companion don't interject at all. They have a single line saying ''I can't believe it !!11!!'' and no scene at the camp either.

In general dealing with Act 3 I had more a general distaste for the blatant drop in performances and with how abruptly several questlines have been truncated, rather than suffering from a significant amount of OBVIOUS bugs.

Hmmm i am surprised that this looked that well. Also i am surprised that this game had turn to black sex scenes when it was hyped as porn game.

Most games have ridiculous WoW style armor, instead of actual real to life armor (like in this game).

It might not be WoW, and it generally looks decent, but calling it "real to life" seems like a bit of a stretch.

X7WfGmv.jpeg

It's not exactly WoW and the early armors like paddeds and leathers and chainshirts and whatnot do look good and fairly realistic and solid, and with a touch of the Keith Parkinson fantasy look. But I do blame WoW for armor inflation and what I call "spikey shoulderpad syndrome."

I mean it's not as if you can't find a lot of wonderful armor/weapon variation if you go to a good museum with Dark Ages, mediaeval and renaissance armors, like the Wallace Collection - variations in style and design, and especially variations in quality of materials and ornamentation (armor, like weapons, didn't need to be hugely refined in terms of craftsmanship to do its job, and expense came out most often in decoration).

You don't have to stick fucking spikey shoulderpads on armor to make it look cool. Only the biggest and baddest bosses should be allowed to have then - then they has some visual impact :)

I think WoW did it because the more primitive graphics needed cruder, bolder differentiation. But with the refinement and realism in graphics nowadays, you can really represent the variation by means of variation in detail, there's no need for such OTT fashion statements any more.

I'd say the opposite is a sign of shit itemization but to each his own.

I would really like to see the whole thing of adventuring modeled in more detail, with micro-gameplay resource management elements and a bit more emphasis on journey (like for example, PF:K started to have something like that with the camp scenes, but it could all have been fleshed out with more detail). Also things like having a Ranger in your party meaning you can move faster across country instead of having to stick to the roads. Having to hunt for food. Detail like that. It has to be adjusted and massaged so that it's not an annoyance, and as always with those types of things, you want some way of quickening it once you've experienced the immersive aspect enough, but having more simulation in that area would give more of a sense of background realism and bind the player closer to the game in the beginning.

Expeditions: Viking had something similiar - you had to manage different roles (hunting, cooking, preserving food, maintaining armors and weapons, guarding etc) at different times. Iirc one person had three or four "slots" in which he/she could do things or rest, but to fully rest one had to spend min. two of these slots, and to heal wounds properly many, many more. You had to have more people in your retinue than just your adventuring party and you had to rotate them heavilly. Some activities were bound to certain slot - for example you could hunt in the first two, but not the last one, and after the camp you could tidy up (action available only for the last "slot"), to minimise the risk of attack next time you rest. Usually I had four more people just to do camping roles or replace my "main" companions when they were hurt or tired.

EDIT: here's more detailed breakdown, I forgot you could have people with traits like "heavy sleeper", who needed one "slot" to rest while "normal" people needed only two.

https://expeditions-viking.fandom.com/wiki/Camping

"Preserving food" - now that's what I'm talking about :)
Yeah can't wait to drag and drop every item into meticulously prepared selection of containers so later I can play minigame to package them properly, and finally drag and drop again in order to get them to cart. You all watch what you wish for.

That's what I was talking about in terms of convenience and QOL, the representayshun of reality has to be tempered by convenience for the gamer sitting in his Herman Miller snatching some hours of leisure from the jaws of the daily grind. But I do think it's good to have some elements of that sort of thing, it just depends on how much it has to be abstracted away because the developers simply didn't have time/resources to flesh it out cleverly.

Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
So, many dozens of hours into the game, I started to feel tired. Very tired. I had similar feeling playing DOS2, Pathfinder Kingmaker and Pathfinder WOTR. I am not sure if it's due to my age (41) or due to the game lenght/ pace. It's a strange trend, the game feels HUGE, and at the same time it's slow.

I'm in the middle of act 3 now, and since we found out about the game cut content, I feel more and more disappointed. You can see the holes, the fractures and the patchwork they had to do, to keep Act 3 barely working. Sometimes I can barely play, cos my framerate goes to single digits. It's BAD. There are somethings that bothers me like hell, and I miss from more recent games. At the same time, some things are high quality, plot is very good and, in general, the game is solid.

Some things I don't like:
- Why there is no world map? Its hard to understand where we are, according to the game. This is a big departure from the old Baldur's Gate and also from recent crpgs, like Pathfinder. You cannot go back to previous areas, you cannot go wherever you want, and the game is heavily railroaded. There is just one path, and you have to go there in a very particular order.

- Itemization is meh and not very consistent. There are very few unique items, and the itemization, as a whole, favors melee attacks.

- UI, specially the character sheet is unacceptable. After Pathfinder, or, god, even Pillars of Eternity, the character sheet should be much better.

- Ilythid is horny and wants to fuck

- Cut content. Fuck, the game barely stands after act 2.

Aside for the vaguely insufferable "Muh deadnaming" no part of that Journal seems to suggest the two had a sentimental or sexual relationship.

This is just another instance of people on Codex failing to keep their autism in check.
Tranny from a brainwashing cult, was repeatedly taking brainwashed helpless victim into a "special hiding place" where it was "reminding her" of their bond? Cmon, Larian couldn't make it more obvious if they wanted to.

You must be the target audience for these warning videos they show in schools, about strangers that want to bait you into the basement to show you "kittens". Talk about keeping autism in check.
