Hardcorefags are a very small margin of the player's market. If you want balanced games, there's always Pillars of Eternity. The game has a fair difficulty all around.

Like there wasn't even an attempt to balance the game correctly for the level of power a player can achieve in this game
This is a storyfag game with a solid layer of combat for mass appeal. It works well for that, especially as the majority of players will never have touched a D&D game before and will be utterly overwhelmed.
You don't even need broken combos, straight (hasted) fighter right clicking makes short work of bosses.
What hit percentage are you getting on these Hasted attacks? Am I just not seeing the dominance of Fighter yet because I'm literally retarded at leveling so far?

It's solvable but not (yet?) trivial. Tank Wyll w/ Armor of Agathis does well but when I sub in the Gith it seems like a step down so far at least.

Hard to do if you kill her too quickly.
How quickly is too quickly? The mechanics on that fight are annoying af.

>80% without GWM active is the norm.

One way to make sure players don't optimize the fun out of a game during play, is for the game designer to balance the fun out of the game during development.

I have the same, just because you're hasted doesn't help if you have a bad streak of misses. Encounter outcomes really rely a lot on luck

Is GWM for disabled/autocrit then? 80% is a little on the dicey side if I'm trying to play without reloads, but I can see spreading that over several attacks becoming dominant.

Wet + Stealth/High Ground (upcast) Witch Bolt is higher than 80% (with subsequent activations if needed 100%), as of course are Rogue ranged attax, though save on elemental arrows is getting annoying too. Agathis clapbacks also 100%, as is Sleep on low HP mobs. Far from trivial to set those up.

Encounter outcomes really defy a lot on luck

Reducing variance can be an interesting minigame but lack of punishment for not solving it well lessens the enjoyment.

Pushing into abyss strategies are unsatisfying because of lost loot.

This is without buffs or advantages, if you use anything you will have perma 95% against pmuch everything.

Point is that no-brain mode performs well enough that you need not turn brain on, because the bar is so low, not that it's the best.
Keep in mind though you get up to 10 attacks later on.

Yes clearly my Paladin with +25 to hit is going to struggle with these 'misses'

Looks like you succesfully optimized the fun out of your game. Won't happen to most players though, so its rather irrelevant

I honestly remember very few cRPGs where the end game felt like much of a challenge at all. Wizardry 7 for me, though even there you can reach a point where you outlevel most enemies, though the grind is rather insane

Kill Nightsong, she goes goth.
Afterwards you can
kill Viconia, take over Shar temple and have a foursome.
Not sure if the latter is also available for Selune.

designing a hundred different OP item combos
was thinking about itemization. You no longer need to replace your equipment every 2 levels like in dos.

However instead you get so much clutter... half of the items are named, mostly meh.
Then there are limited differences between base items. Spears? javelins? tridents?
Or armors -> why have medium armors all share same dex penalty if their AC vary so much?
Or my new favourite topic: shields. Did you notice that all of them have 2ac, like unenchanted wooden plank? Finally spotted +1 and it was part of vendor display, not on his stock(stole it obviously).

Just play more, there are items where this is not true.

I don't know if it's even possible to make a hard game in 5e. Even Solasta, which is so praised by retards, was quite easy. It is very easy to break bounded accuracy.
Of course, changing the haste doesn't help the difficulty.
What moron thought doubling the number of attacks was a good idea?
If someone wants to play this game dont even think about using haste.

I installed a mod that allows you to control your character with WASD. It worked surprisingly well enough that I wonder why Larian didn't implement this feature himself.

Because you are using WASD for moving view.

A bit of a dumb excuse. The mod allows WASD to move outside of combat and manipulate the camera in combat.
It works really well.
I don't understand why this isn't a feature given the game's target audience.

Bless solves most of the issues with misses, I very rarely had a hit chance below 80%. And that was after I self-limited and stopped using the staff that doubles the effects of bless, +2-8 to atack rolls, saving throws, etc. straight up breaks the game.

On my second playthrough I self-imposed no haste/bless/command/fireball/consumables/pushing enemies into chasms/summons/OP items and I use all single suboptimal classes, and the combat did become challenging/enjoyable, but obviously it's not a great feeling when you have to go that far to get some challenge. I still hope Larian will rebalance Tactician and especially haste/bless and some retarded OP items.

The bless staff doesn't work acually it doesn't seem to do anything to attack rolls. Basically seems to only give +1d4 to spell attack rolls but nothing to regular attack rolls. Probably nerfed it for full release and forgot to change the item description.
