Training wasn't an option, you only train the offensive aspects of PSI, the defensive stuff never moves which is why they had to be fired. Your soldiers' PSI was like a hardline stat in X-Com, and just about the only fault I've ever had with the game. OpenXcom probably helps it in some manner, but I've always been a bit of a purist.

Well yeah, OpenXCom is really great especially with FMP mod.
And even without it it was really upgraded compared to original.
Sadly if we want to get better BB we need to somebody re make it from scratch which probably would not happen.

Good job at derailing and killing discussion. And what is worse I am getting sober.

Isn't simpler pay a team member to obtain something like bbleaks?

Oh I was thinking about it but considering my low level in diplomacy it would turn into me autisticly screeching something like:
"gib source code and compiler as reparation for second world war you filthy German".
I do not think that would work.

I see were Sarissofoi is coming from. It's a bit sad that the tutorial guy is the most / only memorable guy in the game.
BB was never about specific characters though. They are expendable. It has a lot of memorable moments, which was it focus any way.
It's like asking if in X-COM there are memorable characters. Not really, except for your troops that you create stories with

They don't need them, but I think giving your enemies more personalty would add to the experience and not be detrimental. Hoggart and the "tutorial quest chain" seems be more interesting, than "no name orc camp over there". Maybe something like the nemesis system would be cool.

Anyway old UFO simply offer more chances for heroic situations to arise and thanks to that for specific soldiers being more memorable as stats being less important.

Except the part where you have to fire everyone with low PSI, of course.
Was I the only one who used trooper with lowest PSI strength as designated puppet when fighting PSI capable enemies?

Did many people see the Hoggart ending? It was one of the last things I threw in there.

I don't think I have taken time to track Hoggart down since the first time I played the game way back when.

I will make sure to skewer the fucker on my next campaign though.

Well my first Veteran campaign is over at day 12. I knew taking a 2-star job with 800g reward was probably too much. But oh how the jewgold doth shine.

Ended up being 8 lvl 2 bros versus 5 thugs, 2 raiders, and 2 poachers, in a swamp. Surprisingly we actually managed to kill them all, but suffered 6 casualties in the process. I had $3k gold and probably could've rebuilt but just wasn't really feeling this run anyway tbh.

Veteran is more challenging as you guys said. But I think it's just a matter of being appropriately cautious and not putting yourself up against enemies that are too strong.

I wish fleeing mechanics were a little more robust. Dragging all my guys to the edge of the map over the course of 6 turns is really not fun. It should say "anyone at the edge of the map or who cannot possibly be caught escapes unscathed".

The issue is ranged weapons may injure or root your Bros, changing the outcome. Maybe some super quick auto mode.

Thing is in most cases unless you really unlucky with RNG(enemy starting on high ground etc) they would not hit you or do minimal damage. And if they do not have fast units(like wolves or wolf riders or necrosavants) or you are in really unlucky terrain they have no chance to catch you. Especially that most of the times enemy start in defensive stance.
In most times its just annoying and tiring waste of time especially thanks to turn order based on initiative. So you cannot move your guys quick and then let enemy move when reading or whatever as there is always one faggot who is somewhere middle of your enemies move.
You can even make a long range move order for all your units so they move automatically in their turn.
And lack of scouting both battlefield and units(in some cases - dunno who thought that it would be good) just make sure that you will waste time from more often than you want.
Poor design choice but whatever.

In some cases Veteran offer better progress than beginner thanks to more exp from combat and bigger loot. Still - grind is eternal. Losing 6 low level soldiers is not big deal if you recover or have spare gear - unless you lose six low level sellswords in costly armor.

Did many people see the Hoggart ending? It was one of the last things I threw in there.
What do you mean?

There is supposedly a event where you meet a trans Hoggart(trasitioning from dead to undead) who if you have Witchhunter and choose right option tell you some sobby story that he was good boy and didndu nuffin, just need money for dem programs. Or whatever. You can get some named item from it(or so I hear). Dunno about triggers.
I hear that writing still was only 80% in uncle Adolf rating so still not really worth reading.
All info from 4th hand so you know, trust on your own risk.

BTW if you guys are looking for a seed I think 3eca66 is a good one.

It has decent roads and harbors connecting north, south, and east. I allied with the nobles in the south who have a citadel, a fort, two major cities, and one settlement. Lots of services plus good access to food and trade routes. The other factions are not quite as good but also not terrible.

Axebro has Bloodthirsty + Fearless and is a stone cold killer. Crossbro has Eagle Eye and is also A level.

I have rolled a couple dozen or so maps for a new campaign and haven't yet found one I liked as much.

Do you take 'Head Hunter' for a Greatsword specialist?

Do multiple hits with AOE attacks stack for the 'Hits to the body' mutiplier?

I try it and its not really worth(unless you fight zombies a lot).
Whole hit head/body is rather counter productive because you want reliable hit one of it all the time.
It can work on character that is specially geared to hit head(like Killer on the Run) with a weapon with bonus to hit head but overall if enemy wears helmet you usually do not want odd hit on the head when you head body most of the times.
It works much better on axes(increasing head hit chance) as they have +50% bonus to head damage.

It is hard to overstate the importance of reach weapons, especially early on. My first two campaigns on Veteran I get no pikes, hooked blades, etc for days and days, and it was tooth and nail the whole time with many casualties.

This run I luck out and buy two billhooks at less than half price within the first week. And now I haven't lost a single man in a dozen fights. The raw damage output and morale effects are just devastating.

What do you mean?

Hoggart reappears in the Undead crisis with his head stitched onto the body of someone else. You find him standing in the rain and staring at his family home. Couple of different endings to it from there.

Oh! Never got that one. What do you need to do to trigger it? I usually stick with the noble war for my first crisis so haven't seen undead in a while.

Been playing a game with a different approach. Got my frontline built exclusively for defence + shield removal -- equipped with axes, shield specialists, melee defence, what have you -- and second line all archers built for damage, with minimal defensive perks/stats. Still in the early-ish game, but I've got hunting bows for everybody and ranged skill between about 60 and about 68.

It's devastating against anything that bleeds. Wiping out big bands of raiders + bandit chiefs no problemo, never mind Nachzehrers, wolves, and what have you. Haven't tried my luck against greenskins yet but, as said, it's early.

Can handle Wiedergangers reasonably as well; dealt with a group of 19 without taking too much damage although it was cutting it a bit close and a more balanced party would have had an easier time with it. Ancient *** would not be any fun at all I suspect.

If your Attack skill isn't terrible I can't imagine it beeing too bad. Axes are still decent vs armour and when you take away the shields the legionaries should fall fast.

When you substitute a couple of archers for more axebros with longaxes it will be even easier.

Breaking shields isn't as good late game though. How will you take on 30+ gobbos?

That's what I want to find out.

I'm theorising I should be able to stick them full of pins effectively enough, even while they still have shields. By then I should have archery skills pushing 90, and with war bows they ought to make a mark. We will see if it works though. I am suspecting this may not be an optimal strategy but eh, it plays differently.

(I'm also thinking that once I have the funds I'll train up a bunch of pikemen/longaxemen for damage, for those special ancient legionary fights.)

Orc warriors/warlord should be really fun for you, at least if the warriors spawn with plate and helmet.
Necrosavants as well... Pikes and such just don't do enough damage and only get 1 hit per turn without a berserk trigger.

Far as I can tell, the real difference between your party and the standard thing everyone runs early game is that your frontline kind of sucks at hitting stuff or what?
