Damn just as I was getting complacent those vampires shook me up (butchered most of the caravan as well with their mobility). Lost some good vets :salute:

Getting paid less since we lost the mule and 2/3 of the crew was another nice touch.

Going pretty well after a couple of false starts that got murdered dead by goblin wolfriders in their first contract. The Danskjävlar are 16 days in and doing really, REALLY well. We've been lucky to get 3 consecutive "patroll between 3 cities and kill everyone" contracts. And we've met a LOT of poorly equipped bandit raiders worth 60 gold apiece. Battle doges have been very useful in keeping the last bandit from fleeing. Not much in the way of events, but we've had to whip Zombra a few times on behalf of him being a craven coward.
Archers have been doing exceedingly well this game, thanks to large mobs of bandits with no armor. I expect them to drop off in efficiency soon, so I'm getting some pikes for the ones with best melee combat stats.

I really like the new addition where the +x you'll get for each stat is visible. It temps me to picking something other than melee/ranged attack + melee defense + fatigue, when I can see one or more of then are +1 and somethign else is +3/+4.

Marvel at our band of merry brothers!

Probably screenshot tool that's fucked up at this hour in the morning. Check the position of the selected dude in the bottom. Same guy.
The last guy on the list - missing from the screenshots - is KArwelas. Who has very mediocre stats, a shortbow and a backup pike.

A bit further on and the company is beginning to take shape.
rapsdjff -- one thing that's a little annoying right now is gearswapping. I have pikes and quick hands on my 4 crossbowmen. But every time I finish a fight, I have to manually set them back to using their crossbows. Any chance the game could remember what weapins they had at the start of a fight instead of the end?

Also, one of the noble houses keeps giving me missions to patrol a stretch of road and get paid for all the bandits I kill. But for some reason they can tell the difference between roaming bandits and th eones back in bandit camp. They don't wanna pay me for the latter. :(

Now I've just left all the bandit and orc camps along the road be so they can spawn a stready revenue stream for me.

Hey, its the Nobles' fault for being greedy. They brought the roaming bandits on themselves!

Really liking the new content since last I played. One of the noble houses gave me a quest to burn down a wheat field and make sure none of the peasants survived. For some reason, the wheat field was in th emiddle of a swamp, making it nigh impossible for my heavily armoured dudes to encircle the peasants. fortunately I brought rabid dogs along. They made short work of most peasants, with Luzur shooting the last straggler in the back just before he made it to the edge of the map.

For some reason, it seems the %hit chance for ranged weapons is borked. I'm consistently hitting with 15-20% hit chance bolts over several battles. We're talking 10+ battles where I hit multiple, successive low% ranged attacks.

also, I'm currently at 83 (Very Friendly) with a noble house described as "Holds high the principles of justice and honoe, and without irrational rulings their region has prospered", yet the flavour text for contracts has them being drunk, wanting me to slaughter peasants and laughing about sending me to my grave.
:M

Hitting the mid-late game now. About 60 days in and I've an 11-man squad of mostly level 5's in mail hayberk, with metal helmets and pikes/billhooks/boar spears/crossbows plus a sword or two. I've mostly been doing missions for the same noble house to reach "allied", which I have. There's 12k gold in the war chest.... so what now? i feel like I need an incentive at this point to do something new. I tried a 3-skull mission to clear out "a large army of orc young" and all it cost me was 3 wardogs and 1 battle brother. Getting a bigass quest chain from a noble house (dunno if that's in yet) or heading out into the great unexplored grey blob that makes up the eastern third of th emap seem like th emost interesting options. But again, I'm worried it'll just be a giant, empty waste of my time if I go out there. Especially with the new way provisions spoil faster; that makes me reluctant to start a long expidition. The game definitely needs to throw you a curveball of some sort at this point.

Turisas is making us proud :salute:

Man, I was looking around on the Battle Brothers forum and found this topic about the art and it's amazing how much it's improved since 2014. Paul, the artist, has grown so much since the game started development; I've never seen an artist improve so much in such a short period of time. Really amazing.

Thanks man, always great to get a thumbs up. Although the "short time" is already 2 years :)

its true though bro, I have not bought the game yet, but I can also say from the couple years following the game that your art style has become very, very good and to me has shown great improvement. I really love your art, where as at first I did not think of it as a plus or minus for the game, now I believe the games unified art style is one of its strengths and is perfect , setting and mood. I really enjoy it.

I told you Zombra was a drunkard! It's a 2nd game like that!

Also, remember to put me in if you're going for 12 guy Ulminati!

One thing I'd really like to see is another 2-4 noble houses hidden somewhere in the fog of war. Bonus points if they drew from a slightly different equipment pool to look foreign. It would be a neat thing to discover once you decide to wander off into the wilds

If we were ever looking at another human culture I think a Renaissance Italian inspired one (lots of pikes and crossbows, occasional duellist dodgers, flamboyant garb) could be cool without requiring too much effort while still contrasting with the more Germanic/Saxon feel of this one. France, Arabs, Mongols, Slavs etc seem too cavalry-centric while the 'wild barbarian' niche is already filled by orcs.

It could be possible to implement a horse-based combat in a turn-based format like BB (mechanically speaking) but it would require reworking the graphics a lot - those bust-like boardgame characters won't look good on horses...

Could introduce a whole new range of perks regarding cavalry use (for instance massive shooting penalties without 'Horse Archer' for instance) as well as specialist equipment like lances (break on impact, require 7 clear hexes etc) but sounds like more the work for an expansion.

Since Anglo-Saxons et all didn't use much cavalry or generally dismounted for battle its absence doesn't feel weird in the setting.

You mean like the goblin wolfriders? Already in the game. The mount can die seperate from its rider, leaving either a goblin skirmisher or a wolf behind.
