I feel very good about this game (the video was impressive, and a Natasha Kerensky cameo will be welcomed).

Funny, I'm 1,000x more excited for this than Fallout 4. Humm..

Holy shit those things are big. I remember mechs in Mechwarriors being a tad smaller, but maybe it's HBS who "convey" the size more properly.

This is from an official publication:

Iirc the average size of a mech is given somewhere as being 12 meters high.

I'll be missing the live stream, at least at the beginning, but will still do a recap today. It starts in ~15 minutes.

The prototyping looks great. It's more than I thought they would release during the KS.

Really? I probably knew this at one point or another, but for some reason I was thinking all the mechs would be the same size, and be differentiated in weight-class more by armor density and load-out. Almost seems a little silly to have them scale in vertical height with weight, but I guess I could say the same about anthropomorphized tank-robots in general.

Yeah, it's one of those things that seems to change depending on who you ask. I think there may have even been something in a sourcebook or something somewhere that said something about there being more difference in mass than in size. Tbh, even among us fanboys, the BT universe isn't known for its consistency (it's gotten much better with CGL). The picture I posted is from one of the recent books though (one of the tech readout reprints iirc), so I suppose that's as close to "the official word" as it gets.

GENERAL WARNING: If scale bothers you, definitely stay away from the world of BT miniatures.

Yeah, BT is an odd mix of silliness & semi-realism. I sometimes laugh at the debates folks will have over the realism or believability of a given idea or scenario, in contrast to the fact that we're playing a game about a future semi-feudal society where giant walking robots are the pinnacle of military technology. I'm not making fun, I do it too (comes with the territory I guess), I just find it funny sometimes.

I get all settled in to listen to it and realize that it is on Monday, not Friday. Must have had more than I thought. Anyway. Monday. I meant 72 hours and 15 minutes, really...

Latest update has a timeline of the Inner Sphere up to 3025. Pretty good primer if you don't know much about the btech universe's history.

There are 14.5 days left on the BattleTech Kickstarter. Let's assume that for 11.5 of those, it makes an average of $22.5K a day as a worst case scenario, which doesn't seem far-fetched:

22.5 * 11.5 = 258.75

1863.5 + 258.75 = 2112.25

That means the campaign will require ~2455 - 2112 = 343 thousand dollars in its last three days to make the PVP stretch goal. Impossible? Perhaps, or perhaps not - D:OS 2 made $300k in its last three days.

If they can introduce something cool in the last week and get the funding rate up to $30k per day or more, they can make this far more likely.

The campaign ended up overshooting my worst-case estimate by 100,000 dollars.

Although the projections don't show it yet, it looks like they're probably going to make it. Only $236k more dollars are required.

Yes, still think they'll make it easily.

(And even if they didn't they said they'd leave paypal open for a bit as well as using backerkit for those who want to increase their pledges, but I think by then that'll be surplus going to the live team to work on co-op etc)

Well, Mechwarrior PC games always had trouble with scale. Except for maybe Mechwarrior 3.

This Mechwarrior PnP RPG manual has very nice scale. Wish they could make something like this in a Mechwarrior PC game.

There seems to be a new podcast/interview with Mitch here, though much of it seems to be focused on HBS' Kickstarter carreer (haven't listened to it yet)

Are there any Battletech novels worth reading?

Eh, most fall into the level of Dragonlance/Forgotten Realms level of writing from what I remember. So if you're okay with that, then there likely is something worth reading for you. But I haven't visited any of those novels since being a teenager, and don't see much reason to read them aside from wanting to "geek out".

Just go to a bookstore and read the first paragraph or page.

OK, I finally backed it. Now I hope they achieve all their goals.
